Getting some initial exposure and upvotes can be very challenging for new accounts on Steemit. The learning curve is very steep and new blogs often give up early because this platform rarely gives instant results after an initial introduction post. This series of posts can be seen as a step by step way to get some initial upvotes that over time result in regular upvotes and increased post payouts over time.

There are many whale accounts (100k+ SP) on Steemit that seem to be spreading around upvotes automatically. While they still remain something of a mystery to me, they do seem to have a lot in common...

  • All Have ~100k+ Steem Power
  • None of Them Make Posts or Comments
  • None of Them Really Follow Anyone
  • All Seem to be Automated
  • All cast votes 24/7
  • All upvote for Free

The automatic upvote bot that seems to be aimed towards minnows and spreads around 2000+ daily upvotes that are each worth ~0.28$ right now is @hr1 . While I don't exactly know how to get upvoted by this account, I do have a strong hunch how you can get regular upvotes that are worth quite a lot for anyone who starts out here.

Do these things and chances are high you will start receiving upvotes from @hr1...

  • Always post at least 1 picture in your post which fits for a nice thumbnail

600x360 size ratio for example (can be other sizes)
  • Post on a Regular Basis and at Regular Times

1 post each day around the same time seems to work and might be key
  • Use markup to structure your posts and make them look nice

    Tables | Blockquotes | Paragraphs | Alignment | Text Size | ...
  • Start similar post with the same small intro text

If you make a specific series of posts, always start the post in a similar way as an introduction to the series
  • End similar posts with the same small outro text

Similar to the small intro text.

Following these rules will by no means guarantee regular 0.28$ upvotes by @hr1 but should increase your chances to get picked up since this bot seems the be made to reward minnows who consistently make posts where some effort was put into.

I have received some upvotes from these accounts in the past

I have no real clue though if there is an automated set of rules to get upvoted or if they are done manually. It was always a real joy to get a big upvote from one of these accounts but it seems to have become a rare occasion as they only give out a limited amount of votes each day. I intend to do an experiment to schedule my posts at a fixed hour each day for a couple of week to see if that makes any difference.

The Truth About Upvotes On Steemit ✅

Let me know your experience with these whale accounts that seem to exist to spread around upvotes to encourage Steemians without asking anything in return. I'm sure there are more of these out there, so feel free to point out the ones I overlooked. I will try to get more in depth on the accounts that give bigger upvotes, for now I'm still trying to crack the code. Theories are welcome in the comments !

This post might get upvoted by some paid upvotes 24 hours after it was published which should give everyone who showed support some extra curation rewards...
Thanks !

Very interesting! Weeks ago, I started to get votes from @hr1. No idea why or how this works...

Hey steemmollionaire,

Please reconsider your voting behavor pattern, upvoting your own comments 100% while not even giving a small upvote to the post your are commenting on is not something what Steemit should be about and goes against getting any support from this community yourself. (check Votes Info which visualises everyones voting behavior

Good Luck !

Thank you, @costanza! I accept your criticism, and I take it as a target for the next 7 days to decrease my self-votes to <50%.

I'm a bit late catching up on things, but It's nice to see you understand what I was saying. You will see that is is much more rewarding in every way to be a bit more selfless. good Luck !

Great info! You should also check http://steemocean.com/toprank . It lists there what tags are mostly upvoted by most whales.

hr1 seems to be upvoting mostly the "life" category, just this week he already upvoted around 2139 posts so far. :)

Thanks jlordc, good info !
I did not know that site yet and will bookmark it.

The first tag seems to be key I've been going through some of the blogs that get upvotes and a change in pattern seems to break the @hr1 upvote streak.

@costanza

I don't know how @hr1 works, but the last three posts I've written got an upvote from that account. I'm posting consistently, mostly one post per day. The posts have a similar format. The tags are: betting gambling football... I'm doing something right, but don't know what exactly.

Consistency indeed seems to be the nr1 factor
It will be interesting to see when you make a posts that breaks your current pattern an if it will get the @hr1 upvote

We will see tomorrow :-)

I get upvote from hr1 oncce in a while, at least once in a 2 week mostly when I post result of the contest, and never on the other post. There must be some keyword hr1 looks into, or I don't know.

Good theory, never really looked at it that way but might very well be the case.
Maybe it's the reason why having some kind of fixed into and outro text sometimes works to get daily upvotes if it has the key words.

We never know, might be, might not be. If we could know it, it would be great.

I do see hr1 upvoting my post once in a while. And like you wrote, this is a big deal to me. Your assumptions could be spot on, how you can allure him to upvote a post!
Always wondered how it is set up. Thanks for the info!

I'm quite sure there is an algoritm that can be cracked behind these upvotes. Like you say, they really make a big difference just like any kind of upvote that does not require anything in return since they are becoming more rare. It's easy to get your post earnings high by buying upvotes, but it's most of the time just one big fugazi while the real earnings are a lot lower.

Really cool article especially for beginner like me..... thanks a lot.....

I'm glad it helps, having some solid information to start with can make all the difference for new members but it really takes a lot of time and effort to find out how everything works by yourself. The idea is to make a step by step guide from easy things you can do at the start that require nothing to build some basic post eanings to more advanced things to re-invest those earnings and get the ball rolling.

Good Luck here on Steemit !
