Thoughts On People Leaving Steem

After @surfermarly recently announced that she will "no longer be creating content on Steem" and is basically leaving the platform, it made me think of all the people who have left Steem so far and the people who talk about doing so themselves.

It reminded me of some of my good friends that I made here on Steemit when I was first starting out that had left months ago. People like @gouldingv, @zous, @nids209 were among the first ones who I could genuinely see growing with me together, but that obviously didn't happen.

It honestly sucks to say goodbye to all these amazing Steemians when you've formed a bond with them over the time that you spent together, especially when you don't have any other means to contact them.

All these thoughts keep circling in my head like,

Are they okay? Are they even alive? What am I thinking, they're probably alright, they just stopping blogging on Steem, that's all. I hope that's all.

I mean, I know Steem prices weren't doing that great then and aren't doing that great now either, but c'mon! What happened to perseverance? How can that be reason enough for you to leave so suddenly after investing so much time and energy in your blog?

The emotional part of me wants to tell them stuff like,

Didn't we talk about supporting each other and watching each other grow together even when we knew practically nothing about crypto?

Then the practical part of me says stuff like,

You guys could've at least powered down before leaving so you could have the rewards for your efforts, or maybe you could've even just given your earnings to someone you like so it wouldn't just sit and rot in one place.

Try to imagine the worth of all the STEEM and SBD just sitting in so many of these inactive accounts, never being made any use out of.

On a more positive note though, I know @surfermarly has had a great ride and we will all definitely miss her spreading her awesomeness here on Steem. Again, it's sad, but it is what it is.

There will be a lot of people in our lives who we wouldn't want to see leaving us, but that's just the way life is. Roads diverge and people lose contact overtime, and that's okay.

To all the people who have left the platform so far, I hope life always has some amazing new adventures waiting for them :)

The trust in Steem is really low at the moment, specially because the majority of the whales don't seem to care at all if this Network survives or not. They're all much more interested in leeching this platform dry... and they also allow new users to be abused on a daily basis by some of the whales, who act like they are Nelson Muntz.

Only when people stop voting some whales for witness, they will stop being jerks. But I don't have much faith on that happening. After all, one of the main bullies arounde here is one of the Top 3 Witnesses. That tells me this will forever be like a kindergarten, where bullying is perfectly acceptable.

This Network had a great potential. Unfortunately, the top devs and the top witnesses are squandering that opportunity in a shocking way. I see homeless people being more active and productive that the developers of SteemIt.

Personally, I am not investing another cent in here. I'd rather hold BTC.

Very well put. The platform used to support new comers to some degree in the past, but these days, it's almost impossible to grow organically. You either have to play dirty tricks to rank up or keep making efforts for way too long without any results, which eventually starts to feel like it's not worth it and maybe that's what makes people want to leave.

The witnesses and devs can surely work on this, but I guess like you said, that's not happening anytime soon.

I just hope that they come back in the near future. A lot of people that declared they were leaving will turn up again once the prices rise. Especially the likes of marley who were a positive influence on the site. It's not always easy here but we are building towards the future.

I hope so too. I hate seeing people leave like that, especially when they're someone who spread such a positive vibe.

I guess what really makes most people want to leave is the unfulfillment of their own expectations they had with this platform. I think they set up their expectations way high when they enter the platform and then get frustrated when they see no results.

The thing is, I can't blame these people entirely because they're kinda right on some level. There are a lot of people on Steem who try to give their best and still don't get the recognition. I guess this is where we as a community needs to be more 'giving' than trying to solely benefit ourselves.

They could have set auto-upvote or vote selling on their accounts.

Just my thoughts, they should at least put some active steemians on their curation trail instead of leaving there account just blank like that.

I know right! It's like, either take advantage of it yourself or let someone else have it. The rewards are pretty much useless just sitting there all alone.

Maybe they will come again! I do some vacation on steem last year (like 6 months innactive)

And ill return! Steem is a magnet ;)

I hope so! I mean, I've taken breaks too. Some of them lasted a little longer than 2 months. I've indeed seen people return after a long time, but those people aren't large in numbers. Usually when they cross that 4-5 months mark, it is safe to assume that they aren't coming back.

It's rare for people to come back after such a long time, just like in your case.

They will find themselves wasting his time on twitter or facebook and they will simply return! Dont you have his facebook or twitter to reach them?

Unfortunately no. @gouldingv does have her social addresses on her account's background but she's been inactive on them too, so I don't know if reaching out to her is the best idea or not.

Never is bad to stoping by and say hello 😊

It is very sad news you have shared..But life never stops.
Best of Luck to @surfermarly .

Indeed. I'm sure she must be having a pretty good reason to leave Steem and that she thought about her decision thoroughly before announcing it in public.

Whatever it may be, I wish the best for her.
