Welcome to Steemit - This may help

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

I have noticed many new people having a rough time getting started.
This post is linked if you have a welcome post (great!) but have missed something important. I'm here to help you start on the right track.

1: Make your Avatar!!!
You don't want to be one of 100's of people that have a blank avatar, because then nobody can recognize you! A name is one thing but an image is much more memorable.

DON'T BE A BLANK!

This is very easy to fix, click your non-avatar, go to settings, and link to a picture URL. You can also see my visual guide on this if you need help  https://steemit.com/steemit/@alphacore/visual-guides-changing-avatar

2: Post about things you're interested in, and nothing else!
Many people are coming into the platform and immediately diving into long-form posting about things they clearly don't know a lot about (sorry), and it becomes obvious at some point they are forcing themselves to post based on the assessment of that category or topic and think they have to write about something specific to succeed. This is not true! You should post about what you care about, and nothing else! In time people that think the way you do or like your style and same interests will follow you, and they will upvote your posts about the things you like without you even having to try. Doesn't that sound so much better? Stick to the things you like.

3: Engage with the community, read other posts, comment on things , and follow someone!
This one is very important. Many come here and immediately start posting 10x/day without ever reading what others have said, commenting their thoughts on other people's posts, helping the ecosystem by voting on other content, or following others to keep up with things happening while they are away. This behavior of posting-only essentially places you into a void, similar to going on Facebook and never adding friends but posting anyway. Before you start spending hours researching your next great post and writing a small novel for people to read, take a minute and look around, make a few friends and help someone else out, get some good Karma and go back to posting!

You may also have lost your welcome page for closing tab that it was in during your first post, here it is again for reference, there are some good tips in here you may want to read again

Very helpful to read this. I may have to slow my roll on posting for a bit as I am already finding so much of interest here. I agree with all that you're written here.
I also read somewhere before joining that upvoting your own posts and comments can be helpful. Would you agree @alphacore ?

Very good read and advice @alphacore.
Like you said you'll learn so much more by listening and interacting with other members of the community then by pumping your blog full of non-sense.
I was reading an article; earlier this afternoon - which talked about audiences and the amount of impact that your understanding, your respect and your honesty has on that certain group or following. Meaning don't be afraid to be the true you and share/follow what you truly like and what you truly stand up for.
Guranteed you will find more success not only on steemit but in everyday life.
Cheers, I look forward to following you.
Much love from Canada !

Welcome to steemit! I'm also new here and I'm following you. These hacks sure are going to help me. :)
