Ultimate STEEMIT: Minnow Post Vote Slider and Past Payout Monetizer Script... and next, here comes SteemTUBE!!! 😲steemCreated with Sketch.

in steemit •  last year

Back in May I attended the EOS VIP Party, where I also met some very interesting and cool fellow steemians. At the party, there was also plenty of delicious food offered. However, I've gotta admit... those sliders were pretty darn delicious, and perhaps by far my favorite!

And that got me thinking... you know, everyone ought to have a slider, even little minnows. We all deserve at least a chance to try one, or two, or three of these savory and deliciously delectable delights! 😋

And now part of that "dream" has finally come to fruition... I'd like to introduce you all to my latest TamperMonkey script: 😁

  • enables a vote slider for steemians with over 72 SP
  • provides better upvote notifications
  • easily monetize expired content past payout by targeting active comments by the author instead

Trying to implement all this directly into the current steemit.com interface has certainly taken me for a bit of a spin. But then again, I've been conceptualizing some of these ideas for almost as long as I've been posting on STEEMIT!

upvote-slider-notify.jpg

Part 1: Why can't I have a vote slider too...

Since HF19 was released, one of the biggest pains felt by fellow steemians with under 500 SP is that they can't access the vote slider. Before HF19, it really wasn't such an issue. Given each vote cost 1/2% vote power at the time, and you could vote 40 times a day before reaching 80% vote power, sub 500 SP users would rarely find much use for the slider anyway.

Post-HF19, however, each vote was now worth 2%, and those same 40 votes would knock you right down to 20% vote power! That's probably fine for newer users with under 100 STEEM POWER who probably don't vote all that much yet anyway. As you grow, learn the ropes, and integrate and interact more with the STEEMIT community, you also tend to vote more. You recognize the value of voting up thoughtful or appreciative comments as well.

I mean, in the virtual world, what better way is there to "spread the love", have a "fist bump" or two, along with a quick "thank you". Tossing even a few cents on a comment says all that and more in spades! As such, this becomes second nature for more established users. For those just starting out, those options aren't even on the table... until NOW that is!

While alternate STEEMIT interfaces such as @jesta's chainbb.com or eSteem Mobile App users have offered the vote slider to lower SP users for a while now, it's never been available on STEEMIT.com itself! Of course, you also have to be comfortable sharing your "posting key" with other services as well. With this TamperMonkey script, that all changes, along with much more as you'll soon discover (and it all works directly on STEEMIT.com)...

First, I just wanted to make one thing clear. Lately many low SP users have experienced bandwidth issues interfacing with the blockchain. While there are several initiatives in the works to alleviate some of these issues, be aware that the more transactions you make on the STEEMIT blockchain (ie. more votes, especially many very small votes) the greater the chance you may be rate-limited for a period of time. If this happens to you, just wait a little while for your account to recover. Also consider voting a bit less frequently, and with more vote power as well.

You can check your current "Bandwidth Remaining" on steemd.com, or if you're hanging out in one of the Discord Chatrooms such as Whaleshares where WhaleBoT "lurks", 🐳he'll🐋 show you the approximate bandwidth you have remaining along with your vote power (ie. "whalebot vp alexpmorris").

postvote-comment-upvote-example.jpg

Part 2: Why can't I monetize after 7 days?!

Your sweat, blood, and tears. Your hard work, your videos, your music, your art... It's timeless, it's priceless, why can't you monetize your "art" on the blockchain... FOREVER?! Sorry folks, after 7 days it's simply... "yesterday's news". 😞😢

Now, I don't know about forever, but for now, unless the STEEMIT "powers that be" find reason to change this feature in an upcoming hard fork, you can continually monetize past works... through COMMENTS! While your posts may expire, post comment threads can continue indefinitely! I really started to think about this after HF19, when some comments I had written earned me more in payout than several of my earlier posts combined!

I still receive comments here and there on some of my past content, especially my more "popular" posts. And that's what the script looks to "monetize". In the example, you'll see that we missed the "opportunity" to vote on @nepd's "HairShares" post, as the active voting period had ended. However, there were still plenty of fresh comments by @nepd that had not yet expired!

SteemitPostVoteSliderAndPastPayoutMonetizer-Video-HowTo.gif

As long as a post still contains at least ONE ACTIVE COMMENT, whether the post is 1 week or 6 months past payout, the "Past Payout Monetizer" will find and target THAT COMMENT for an upvote instead. And as simply as that, you can easily reward the author for their hard work, even if you've discovered it months after the first payout! Now, just for reference, this doesn't mean you should revisit all your old posts once a week with a fresh comment. However, back in the day when a video on our YouTube channel vlogolution went viral, people would continually leave comments on them, some even to this day!

I believe this dynamic will grow on STEEMIT as well, especially as more people understand the potential benefits. And if you still have people commenting on your past posts, there's one more incentive to leave a nice comment in response, even if it's just a quick thank you for appreciating your work!

dan-deny-payment.jpg

SteemIt + YouTube = Steem...Q?!

Part of the reason I built this script was to also demonstrate a sort of "proof of concept". In order to really take this to the next level, I'll pivot over to @furion's recent post on his progress with steemQ and view.ly. In his post he states one of the key issues they face:

Fair and cost effective incentive system for node providers to store and stream content.

Now, I'm not saying I have every aspect of this completely worked out. But what if at least part of the rewards from a particular steemQ post (comments included) could be thought of as adding funds to a continuous faucet. Each stream provider could be paid some fraction of a cent per second of video or audio streamed. If the faucet "runs dry", viewers will be greeted with a message to that effect.

If the content is considered valuable enough, anyone can come in and add some more "upvote power" to a comment, even months later, and the video immediately comes back online again. In essence, it continues to produce for both content creators and content streamers, indefinitely! The power of that one vote may be sufficient to "keep the ball rolling", while supporting 1000s of additional views for others to enjoy.

The TamperMonkey Script

If you're also using my "Hide Resteems" script, be sure to update to the latest version. I made some additional tweaks to capture a few more edge cases. For both scripts, capturing all of STEEMIT.com's state changes is a bit tricky. While I believe they now catch 95%+ of the page changes and dynamic updates, some might still slip through. For example, if for some reason you're missing the RESTEEM button, just try refreshing the page.

If you plan to use both scripts together, also make sure that "Hide Resteems" loads first! I tried dealing with the conflicts (mostly jquery scope-related issues), but due to the implementation, this seems to be the easiest solution for now. If you happened to install "Hide Resteems" (HR) after "Steemit Post Vote Slider and Past Payout Monetizer" (SPVS), go to HR's "Settings -> Position", and make sure the order (position number) is lower for HR than for SPVS. If it's running in the correct order, when you click the TamperMonkey extension logo, this is what you should see:

tampermonkey-steemit-scripts.jpg

For those who are already familiar with TamperMonkey and want to try jumping right in, you can easily install either or both scripts directly from greasyfork.org:

Script #1: https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/31120-hide-resteems
Script #2: https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/31619-steemit-post-vote-slider-and-past-payout-monetizer

You can also find both scripts on github.com as well:

Script #1: https://github.com/alexpmorris/HideResteems
Script #2: https://github.com/alexpmorris/SteemitPostVoteSliderAndPastPayoutMonetizer

For those unfamiliar with TamperMonkey, it's a very popular userscript manager, available for Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Safari, Opera Next, and Firefox. The scripts can easily be added to your TamperMonkey "Dashboard" as just another script to run, complete with source code as well so you can be quite certain there's no tamper "monkey business" going on! 🙊

TamperMonkey VIDEO HowTo...

If you're new to TamperMonkey, this terrific 2 minute video overview should get you right up to speed:

Finally...

So with that, fellow steemians, I leave this in your capable hands. I welcome you all to share your thoughts and ideas on what I've built and release here, and I hope these scripts serve to further empower you all along this collective journey into the "gift economy" we call STEEMIT. Just remember to stay humble and "keep it real" my friends!

"With great power comes great responsibility", or something like that, so "they" say...

Also just wanted to throw in this last little blurb... In my previous post, I had rudimentally compared the valuation of STEEMIT to FaceBook and SNAP. @knircky just wrote an excellent article that goes much deeper than my short bit towards the end of that post. He compares the valuations of STEEMIT, Facebook, twitter, etc versus active monthly users:

Steem: 250m / 100k = $2500
Facebook : 485b/2B = $243
Twitter: 14b/328m = $42.68
Snapchat: 17b/255m = $66.67

And remember, STEEM / SP holders are collective owners in the platform. If STEEMIT can achieve just a small fraction of these valuations... well, here's the link to "evaluate" for yourselves:

Link: The value of Steem and its users: 1 Steem user = 10 Facebook users!

Once again, it's always possible I've missed something, so if you have any issues, or even just to share your experience with these scripts, please be sure to comment below!

😊 And as always, I appreciate your upvote, your follow and all your comments! 😊

@alexpmorris, thanks for making the slider & post payout monetizer - tremendous work! :)

·

thanks @applecrisp, and for the resteem as well! :)

·
·

Hi, thanks for your interesting post. Welcome to my blog @evgenya

This was an excellent article again, thanks a whole bunch for the information, it is packed!

I have definitely been enjoying the slider idea since its inception and continue to do so.

Namaste :)

·

thanks for the kind words @eric-boucher, and now people don't have to wait anymore for 500SP just to access it! of course, I'm quite a bit above that now, yet still loving both scripts myself for the added functionality they provide! :)

Can't be LIVE I missed this one @alexpmorris!!! You are a man of so many talents. This post just went from good, to great to insane!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!! For being here, for sharing your knowledge on so many levels and for simply being a genius.

We were talking about expired post comment value in SMG just today, which by the way if you ever have time to bless us with your wisdom we'd love to have you there.

Oh and I am so excited for SteemQ to come out as you know we've had our issues with YouTube censorship and deleted numerous times!

Anyway.. man we love you! :)

·

thanks for the kind words @kenistyles! I'm sure you're well aware of our YouTube stories as well.

I'm kind of blanking on SMG, though (the link just went back to my post). Is that another discord guild? Many of us are already on discord too. Definitely worth stopping by one of these days if you get a chance! :)

ps. dunno about "genius" though, if I start thinking that way I always seem to soon after land right on my head! lol

·
·

Bumps n bruises build us brother!

Lol yeah I read all about you guys, I'm so happy to talk to someone who has the genius to create solutions as you do!

No it's just another Facebook group but hoping to grow and offer more than post promotion. I'll send you an invite.

I've been meaning to explore discord and your prompting me more so it moves up one on the to do's!

Just juggling diapers and doing my best blogging from the iPhone for now! 😬

Your vote slider is an awesome tool! Wish I found it earlier! Thanks for all of your hard work!

·

thanks for the kind words @therockman, glad you're finding it useful! :)

it seems for some reason, some of the images from this post "disappeared" from the steemimages.com CDN, so here they are again...

SteemitPostVoteSliderAndPastPayoutMonetizer-Video-HowTo.gif

A very interesting read there @alexpmorris and well presented. Thanks for sharing.

·

glad you found it helpful @selfbuiltcamper. you're still a bit small for the slider to help you yet, but the more you understand about STEEMIT, the faster you'll be up to speed with the rest of us! Keep on Steemin'! :)

Thats some awesome work you've done there! I was wondering why I wasn't able to delegate a percentage of my SP to upvotes via a slider. Now I know... Im just shy of 500 SP! But I will check this out in the meantime.

We will see how it works out.

·

thank you for the kind words @sreepyeldarb! so, how's it "working out" for you so far? cool having a slider, ay?! :D

·
·

Well @alexpmorris, I was going to check the script out yesterday. But upon importing more steem into my account and powering up, I have noticed that with just 500 SP I can now use the vote slider without the script. So as good as the idea sounds for lower SP accounts, I dont think I'll need it.

None the less, again, very good work and I wish other users all the best!

·
·
·

thanks for the kind words @sreepyeldarb! I'll just add though that even if you already have a 500SP+ slider now (congrats, btw!), you might still want to give it a spin nonetheless, as you may find some of the other features quite useful (and more visually appealing) as well! :)

Very interesting post. I had overlook some part the first time I read it.

Great post and great tools thank you for sharing all of this with us ;)

Thank you so much for this article. Some of the tools are invaluable :)

·

thank you @yoda1917, hope you get some great use out of them!

" While your posts may expire, post comment threads can continue indefinitely! I really started to think about this after HF19, when some comments I had written earned me more in payout than several of my earlier posts combined!",
This part of the post is really valuable, because most of the people dont know about this information, and even i got to know this from your post, excellent informative post for all steemians, thanks a lot sir, you are proving to be a mentor for all of us.

·

Yes, it's good you caught that and pointed it out. I've said this many times in other posts as well. People really underestimate the value of leaving thoughtful comments. Not only is it a terrific way to interact and "get noticed" by others (IF done properly), but sometimes you may more often than not find some pleasant "gifts" waiting for you as well! :)

This is super freaking rad and interesting. I'm really wanting payouts after 7 days!!! Love the solutions this offers.

·

thanks for the kinds words @acrobutterfly! and btw, I already gave you one on your "When I was 18, I Ran Away and Joined the Circus" post! ;) lol

Very good post and thoughts shared. My voting power is always set at 100% and since hf19 my total power dropped to around 15-20%. I don't really care about that and just keep upvoting stuff I like.

Now I'm off to read the latest about SteemQ. Thanks

This is awesome, especially the monetizing on past posts feature! It's such a great way to help out minnows too who are looking to build up their SP. Thanks for sharing & also for including the gif demonstrations, it really made things so simple & easy to digest :)

Now gonna make sure my HR is up-to-date and that I install SPVS ;)

·

thanks @theywillkillyou, and thank you for the randowhale vote too! glad to hear you're also taking advantage of "Hide Resteems" as well. I don't think even I realized how useful and handy these tools would turn out to be! lol

and yeah, as @incrediblesnow mentioned... be aware that randowhale lowered his price to 1 SBD now!

Excellent and very informative article. Thanks for sharing with us.

·

thank you @fenequedvm, hope you get much great use from the script!

hooooyaaaaah! the youtube guy is here! thanks for the slider! great article!

stay humble and "keep it real"! - I like that one too! :)))

·

glad you're enjoying it @pinaynomad, also came in handy to upvote a few of your past payout posts as well! ;)

·
·

ooooohhhhh thanks Alex! You have a very kind soul! Can't wait to see more of your posts! I wanna see you on my feed every day. :))

very good post.. I'll give the slider a try.. plus very good info on the expired posts. Thank you

·

got this up and running on opera browser.. works great

·
·

great to hear it and thanks for the feedback! good to know it works well on opera as well. also, thanks for the resteem! :)

Awesome tool, thank you from a great many Steemians who I know will use it.
Is it OK on a Mac asks a code dunce.

You got an upvote & rsteem from me

Steem on beyond the moon, we can take it way further than that. Good luck to us all.

·

hi @pqlenator, thanks for the kind words, and for the resteem! :) I haven't personally tried it on a Mac, but I don't see why it shouldn't work, especially in Chrome or Firefox. But please let me know either way how it goes!

Not only did you deliver delish sliders, @alexpmorris, but also double WHOPPERS! Thank you for your hard work.

Nom noms and and cheers to you! This pic of our lunch seems fitting.. : P

·

thank you @michellectv, so kind of you to say! lol

·
·

You put so much care and effort into your scripting projects for smaller Steemians (like myself) to benefit and blossom to their fullest Steemit potential, I absolutely should say it! ; )

Congratulations! This post has been upvoted from the communal account, @minnowsupport, by alexpmorris from the Minnow Support Project. Oh yes please vote slider.
Now EVERYONE can have a vote slider because of this great thing you made for us.
Thank you @alexpmorris
upvote & resteem

·

your welcome @manycoolthings, and thanks for the resteem!

this minnow just gained her slider bar! and it is ahhhmazing :)

·

I'm glad you're enjoying it @mrslauren, I remember how thrilled I was too when I first got mine! :)

really liked your last article too btw, somehow came at just the right time for me. ;)

This makes a lot of sense to me. Which I find incredible but it really does. If you get a comment on any other platform, that sends a signal that the content still has value to someone. Why not?
Restemmed and upvoted. I need to digest this completely.
I know a lot of people including myself as a newbie hold back on creating 'good' long form content until we have a following and resort to short posts because we know they are time limited. This could change that assumption for new users.

·

my thoughts exactly! I hope more people start realizing this as well. In fact, my understanding of chainbb.com is that it's even designed around the idea of highlighting posts with active recent commenting activity. So you can say this is sort of an extra twist on that idea that seeks to further reward the original author as well!

Some nice ideas in there, thanks for sharing your creativity!
I wanted to use JQuery in my find similar posts add-on for Steemit, but didn't find a way to get it working as I can't load external scripts due to Steemit's Browser security policy. I saw you mentioned Jquery conflicts, but how did you use Jquery in the first place? I looked in your resteem code but don't see any Jquery..

·

thank you @ura-soul! out of all the issues I faced, injecting jquery wasn't one of them. not sure why you're missing it, but jquery's all over the place (starting with the @require line, and all the $() calls are jquery). When I mentioned conflicts, the problem was that the script was always loading before STEEMIT's jquery kicked in, and if "Hide Resteems" loaded after SPVS, it would overwrite the SPVS version which needed to link to jquery-ui. I tried encapsulating, but then (as I had expected) some of the events could no longer access that scope. Maybe I was missing something simple, but ideally I would have liked to use STEEMIT's jquery (tried various @run-at options, but it didn't help).

·
·

Aha - I was using this completely different tampermonkey extension that also hides resteems - I wrongly assumed it was yours.

I've installed yours now and can see the require line.

When I required Jquery in my own code I got a browser error due to cross-domain access of the script file. Maybe I'll look at that again now I have your code. thanks!

·
·
·

Gotta love programming! Or should I say 'Problem Solving' lol

Hey, Alex! Thank you so much for making the slider tool. I not only downloaded and activated it, I gave you a 62% upvote -- just because I could :)

·

thanks @writewords, but I just don't get why I keep creating tools and writing posts that shoot myself in the foot! lol

·
·

I know, right? Nah, it's for the better because a healthy STEEM is best for all of us! (if you put that on a greeting card, you owe me!! 😂) ✌️

·
·
·

yeah, just kidding around, it's all good - glad it's working well for you! :)

·
·
·
·

Nah, I assumed as much. Someone with your level of genius isn't likely a dick who can't take a joke.

·
·
·
·
·

I object though! I'm no genius, but perhaps just a bit obsessively compulsive once 💡 an idea 💡 pops into my head! lol

·
·
·
·
·
·

semantics

wow, I haven't seen tamper monkey before now, really cool stuff. I have to look more into this.
I also never thought to upvote a comment for old posts, top idea!
cheers.

·

thanks @the-fillosopher! btw, I think I'd like to come up with a way to upvote your profile icon next! lol

·
·

haha, cheers.

·
·
·
·
·
·
·

Hey man, you do not need to transfer 2SBD to randowhale as it was now offering promotion, you just need to send 1SBD only!
Refer here : https://steemit.com/steemit/@randowhale/randowhale-is-now-only-1-steem-sbd-per-vote-spread-the-news
Upvote me or send me some little tips if you like my remind!

·

yes, thank you for the heads up @incrediblesnow, though it was actually a "gift" from @theywillkillyou. I've let him know as well about the price reduction! :)

Some very important features here, which will help make steemit more user friendly. Does this work also for Mobile?

·

I haven't tested it on mobile, but there's certainly no reason it shouldn't work if you can install TamperMonkey on a mobile version of Chrome or Firefox if it supports installing the TamperMonkey extension.

If you do decide to give it a go and get it to run successfully, please share your experience!

Hi. I use Microsoft Edge and it doesn't seem to work for that even though I've done what you said and all. It has a little monkey and 1 in the corner, but the slide doesn't ever show up for upvotes. I also tried it on firefox which I don't use at all and I was able to do the slide one time. Maybe it is user error?

·

there's a comment thread above started by @francisk about that from several months ago regarding Microsoft Edge, and yes, there are apparently some issues using tampermonkey with Edge. Unfortuantely, nothing I could do about that except to recommend using Chrome or Firefox instead.

·
·

On firefox, it gives me the yellow upvote button but when I push it, it just gives me a full upvote. No slider. Any advice?

·
·
·

looks like this was a new issue. I just released an v0.15 update. Hopefully I got it all correct! :)

Here's the summary:

STEEMIT changed some of the element IDs and class names, which broke the script's functionality on comments and post summary pages. This update should correct for those changes.

Please let me know if you still have problems after you grab the latest update.

·
·
·
·

Yea! Awesometastic! It looks like it is working! :) Bravo.

·
·
·
·
·

great to hear, glad it's working for you now! :)

·
·

Thanks for the reply! I'll try it out on Firefox and look up the other comment. :)

Useful information, thank you

you're a genius homie Im going to checkout zis tampermonkey

·

thanks for the kind words @stargarden, but as I replied to someone else...

"I object though! I'm no genius, but perhaps just a bit obsessively compulsive once 💡 an idea 💡 pops into my head! lol"

·
·

Alot of smart people hit a moment where they think, "Damn im just a dumb monkey."

·
·
·

yeah, tell me about it... that's how I keep on feeling trying to compile the bitshares-core on windows for the past day! lol

BUEN POST BRO

Thats a good idea and even better post. I also enjoyed the link for the user value post. Thanks

Saudações

·

glad you're founding it helpful @rcartax!

This is one of the rare post here in steemit, it clears many doubts here. I am really happy that now steemit is making progress and users understanding its potential and using their voting power more wisely. I did not know how the expired post has the potential to pay on the active comments. Thanx a lot for clarifying many things.

·

thank you @rocksg for the kind words! yes, it opens up many new possibilities, and the irony is that in some way, it was practically "staring" us all in the face! I just automated the process a bit to make it a bit easier and more "streamlined". And now people have a bit more incentive to continue "interacting" on older posts as well!

I think what you do is great , only one point ...........dont call people minnows they can get you wrong :)

·

I actually added "Minnow" after the fact, because I wasn't sure if everyone seeing the title realized that it meant sub 500 SP users could also get a slider! lol

·
·

I know why you did it , was just a jouk :)
I admire the way you help people in steemit with your tools.

steem plants, plant steem, eat plants, buy steem, down with "the man" but I love men, and I am a MAN! LOL ~ <3

Still see, still do not understand, but at least this paper can give a little picture for me:) Thank you very much @alexpmorris

·

which part do you not understand, perhaps there is something I can better clarify?

Thanks for shraing this is great I have the Hide Resteems and slider actions turned on but dont seem to get the slider when upvoting, maybe I am missing something

·

did you make sure "Hide Resteems" is running first (notice in the image it should be above Steemit Post Vote)? if so, does it work if you disable "Hide Resteems"? Also, can you confirm you're running the latest version of Post Vote v0.11, and which browser you're using?

·
·

I will check when I get to my pc shortly thanks

·
·

Yes I have them in the same order with Hide resteems First

and I just installed this and did a check for updates so I assume I am on the latest version
I am using Google Chrome as the Browser and its now working just did a test here, thank you so much this is excellent appreciate your efforts on this

·
·
·

Great, glad to hear it's working for you now! Not quite sure though why it wasn't working before though, especially if the order was correct. But at least it's working, and thanks for the kind words!

Hope you get a lot of great use out of it. I've been using these new "features" so much now I almost wonder how I got by without them! lol

Good news, I use tamper monkey plugin in chrome, keep going :) follow, upvote, resteem.

·

great, you're good to go... hope you get much use out of it!

These are some really needed tools especially the vote slider for >500sp members and a steemit based video platform. By the way we still have to install the extension to use the vote slider, so it's not implemeted inside steemit?

·

if you have over 500SP you should already have a slider. this enables a slider on STEEMIT.com for those down to 72SP. It also gives people the ability to easily upvote expired posts, as well as declined payout posts now as well, based on finding a suitable comment by the author to upvote instead.

The only extension you need to add is TamperMonkey, since all these scripts works from within TamperMonkey.

For example, less your delegated SP, you should still have around 105 SP, so you don't currently have the slider on STEEMIT. After you install these scripts, you'll have access to a vote slider when you click to upvote!

·
·

Thanks well explained!

Thank you for the info. I really was missing my slider lately and I didn't know why it was missing. Now I know, thanks.

·

ah so you must have been using eSteem perhaps? or did you power down?

hqdefault.jpg
love

I like your post

Is Tampermonkey better on Chrome? Does it matter? And does Steemit function better on Chrome? I did have a weird error today on Steemit (using Firefox) telling me one of my comments couldn't upvoted because the account didn't exist. But of course, the account quite clearly did exist.

·

I tried the scripts in Firefox with TamperMonkey, and they seemed to work well there too. Still could be some glitches here and there, maybe from all the ajax page switching. Did it still happen even after refreshing the page?

btw, some interesting work you're doing there, nice to see you start posting again!

·
·

It did continue happening, but only for that one comment. And thank you - I was off steemit for a while during a traumatic upheaval, but things have settled down again, thankfully. :)

·
·

sorry to hear that, but glad it seems you've "navigated the impasse"... :)

also, if you can link me to the "uncooperative comment", I'll try it on my end and see if I can figure out what's going on.

·

you're welcome @nepd and great initiative as well, deserves all the exposure we can give it! :)

Thanks for the info, I'm a little taxed learning steemit to get fancy but have this page bookmarked for future reference. And wil try some day.
Cheers

when you're ready for it @codypanama you'll know it, and it'll be right there ready and waiting for ya! ;)

This post received a 3.1% upvote from @randowhale thanks to @theywillkillyou! For more information, click here!

Very cool @Alexpmorris. The only thing I run is SteemVoter but a script that could upvote content on old posts would be pretty nifty!

This Post was Added to the Steemit Social Media Queue.

·

thanks @hilarski, I've already found it invaluable myself just from the bunch of times I've used it while testing and developing it! :) and that's coming from someone who already has slider access too! I also love the little popups after each vote, but perhaps that's just me. lol

·

@alexpmorris....i'm sorry for you and I think you're a good person because you want to reply to me My comment.semoga you always success

Good job on your scripts! Interesting to see how the use of your past payouts monetizer tool picks up. Might be the best current way to support "old" content, that's still valuable.

·

thanks @rawbinhutt, hope it does help bring some new life into great older content!

This is absolutely pure NEXT LEVEL!!! I am excited at all the powerful stuff that is taking place! More people are gonna wish they were on this bandwagon :D @alexpmorris

·

thank you again @awarenessraiser! Ironically, the people will probably regret it the most... those we've tried to convince to "check it out" but have yet to take the initiative, that is... until everyone else starts talking about it! lol

A little bit 'late' to the game but isn't the benefit of bittorrent that the more popular a video is the faster every new user gets it? Does IPFS have this too? I mean I was pretty impressed with bitchute which works on webtorrent, but yes someone has to seed it!

·

IPFS works in a similar way, but no one has really much of a financial incentive to store and stream such content, where even a short video can still require several hundred megabytes to store (not to mention to stream). And just because many people are watching it, doesn't mean they are in turn seeding it and maintaining it for others to view as well.

·
·

That's true, thanks for the clarification!

Why can't I monetize after 7 days?!

I've been asking myself this question but actually this keeps information up-to-date! Noone says you can use your old posts, update them and re-publish them! It takes a while but then the genius of Steemit gets you! It's a paradigm shift.
But I have also some other ideas in store for this. Since I'm also a musician, it can happen that your track is done, it is perfect. Now what? Well, others can resteem or copy it but you could follow the root, ie. the original with something like @Cheetah or Microsofts PhotoDNA for remixes. This could also work very well for video I think!

·

music, video, and pretty much all "timeless" works of art can potential benefit. I would envision at some point that ongoing revenues could also be redirected back to the original creator as well for including songs, images, etc as a small usage royalty. There are already at least a few initiatives working on such models. The main difference here is that on STEEM, there hasn't really been a "clearer way" to do that without the need to directly "charge" people for it.

·
·

Ha! Cool, I just finished a post about it, will post tomorrow :)

·
·

Wow! My post got truncated, there just 10%, htf can that happen? :( Sad...

These are very clever features! Well done.

·

thank you for the kind words, @old-guy-photos! happy "vote slidin'" to ya! well, think you already have the slider, but maybe you'll also appreciate the other features as well! :)

The reason why you can't continue to monetize is because it is not financially feasible! Great article as always :)

·

thank you @mystifact, and that's the beautiful of it.. now people do have a way to monetize past posts, via their recent comments!

Thank you so much for your effort for these things !

that's a great guide, i have to check out tampermonkey as soon as possible ;-)
also resteemed it!

·

thanks @webresultat, glad you found it helpful and thanks for the resteem!

Sir I find your article very useful and helpful. Hope we can get more like this from you. Following you now. Thanks :)

·

thank you for the kind words @rosher72, and for the follow! :)

alexpmorris, this little minnow thanks you for this post..I see you have foxfire listed as a browser you could use with the hide resteems function. I had read a post about this extention previously and it only mentioned google chrome and I love my foxfire. I asked the author if it was available for foxfire and was told it wasn't. On rethinking this issue, I decided I didn't want it anyway as I have ran across many great articles that were resteemed that I would not have seen otherwise. I do resteem a lot of posts that I want to go back and reread when I have more time. My only reason for considering it as bullionstakers commented, "It clogs my feed and makes it too hard to find my posts. My question is, is there a link that I could go to to review all my old original posts in chronological order..if not, there needs to be..or should I just tag all my posts with my user name and find them easier.. Also, this platform makes it hard to find all the useful links that people like me would find useful instead of having to search posts for them? Makes it a bit frustrating for a busy person like myself trying to learn all the ins and outs..I use to be a training technician and was always looking to find simpler more efficient ways of doing things. This platform is complicated enough for me, I can only imagine how frustrated other newbies feel trying to find their way around. Just too time consuming. Any suggestions? Actually, any solutions??

·

it sounds like you're talking about a different version, because I wrote this myself and it always worked with firefox. also, it doesn't remove your resteems, it merely allows you to toggle them on and off so you can see feeds with or without the resteems. As such, it also does exactly what you're asking about. When you toggle off your resteems on your blog page, you'll be left with all your own posts in reverse chronological order (from newest to oldest).

In your case however, you may need to first scroll down a bit more before hiding resteems, because you have so many there may not be enough posts left (if any) to trigger an ajax request for more entries!

I love that cake

I really enjoy having a sliderbar. A giant THANK YOU! I've been looking for something like this for a while. @ironshield

I wrote an article about it:
Vote Percentage Slider for Minnows

r uploads about steemit videos in ur youtube chanel @alexpmorris

Thank you very much for making the post payout monetizer!!!
Can you please tell me how much it will payout and how long it will take to get the payout after I got a comment on a older post? I have set up the post payout monetizer a friend gave me a comment on my old post but I didn't got any payout and it is 8 days ago when my friend made the comment. Thanks and have a nice day.

·

I think you got it a bit backwards. If you write a comment on your own expired post, your friend has 6 1/2 days to give your comment an upvote!

·
·

Ahh okay cool thanks now I understand :)

This is an interesting article for me. I've been looking for information like this for a long time, especially on how to increase upvote values in posts. I've read some articles, but until now I still do not understand how it works.

@alexpmorris
After trying to get your minnow slider to work for the last 6 or 8 hours.
I have to stop. I have everything up. Even your script is showing as it should be according to your photos. The Tampermonkey shows everything you show on mine as well.
I have both Chrome and Microsoft Edge. I tried both. Nothing. Frustrating.
Is this just for new posts only? Or for the reply posts as well?
One more question. Should the "slider" appear first or after clicking the upvote button?

Amazing. After trying about 8 hours. The button finally turned a little yellow on the upvote. And there it was. Set at 100%
I don't know exactly yet what I did. But I think I know. I'll soon find out. On Chrome.

One more question. Should the Microsoft Edge show on the upvote button a tinge of yellow if your slider is working properly?
The one that I have working now. Chrome. It has a little yellow tinge on the upvote button with your slider.
I still have white showing on my Microsoft Edge browser upvote button. Is it different than Chrome?

Thank you, thank you. For now at least. It looks beautiful. On the Chrome browser.

·

I just tried it in TamperMonkey on Microsoft Edge, and while everything does appear to load correctly, just as you said, for whatever reason nothing happens. I don't even think it's an issue with my scripts, because I tried "debug" mode, and unlike in chrome, I was never brought to the beginning of the script. In addition, I added some log statements into the script literally on the first line, and even those didn't appear to execute.

So, while TamperMonkey on Edge appears to indicate the scripts are running, it seems they're not even really started. Very strange. Really nothing else I can do at this point. I think TM on Edge is relatively new, so quite possible there's at least a few glitches they have yet to work out.

Glad you have it running well on Chrome though! That's where most people tend to be using it, along with a few on Firefox as well.

·
·

@alexpmorris
Thank you for your time to help me to understand. I just wanted to know that I wasn't leaving something out or just didn't know what to do.
Thank you for your reply and comment. It means a lot to me. I tried many hours before I was able to get Chrome to work. That was my fault, I am sure.
I also appreciate your work for us. I can now use the Chrome browser for my upvotes if I want to. Thank you again.

Francis

·
·
·

Not sure why you had problems getting it to run in Chrome though, unless perhaps you had reversed the order of the scripts. Usually in Chrome it tends to work right away once you refresh the page. Regardless, glad you finally got it working! :)

·
·
·
·

@alexpmorris
Thank you. It is a little tough for me to follow through with instructions at times.
Especially with something new. But, I never give up. Ha

Francis

Thanks for the useful information @alexpmorris!
Being a minnow or less, this helps quite a bit in the search for Steemit good news.
I usually have Steemnow.com open, but will be using steemd.com as well now to gather info, cheers!

·

glad that little tidbit helped you as well @fractalizer! I also took a moment to upvote some of your cool fractal designs too! :)

·
·

Thank you Alex! Do you know if there is a plan or suggestion for groups being implemented anytime in the near future? @woodywood143 and I used to run the only teaching group on Tsū before it closed, teaching how to make fractals.

·
·
·

if you mean communities and such, there are some new community features proposed for HF20. However, you may also want to consider starting up a Discord Chat group, or perhaps even easier, you could add a channel to @rawbinhutt "Looking for Niche" discord chat room.

·
·
·
·

Thanks Alex, glad to hear it about the community features, I will look into the Discord part of things, that's good, but away from general feed if trying to get new users for a program or art style.
Thanks again for the information!

Excellent post, Amazing. Well done. I'll follow your account to see how you doing. Because i earnings as like you @yash0108

Hi great post, i actually did as you said here. I have the bar and started to comment old posts, im actually making more money by the reply of the steemers!!!! thanks for the info, its still valid and the slide bar, had to change the value of minvest in order to make it work for me.

·

change the value of minvest

Glad it's working well for you, but just be aware, as described in the article, that there is a reason for the minimum value. If you've lowered it, you're much more likely to face the following problem:

(ie. more votes, especially many very small votes) the greater the chance you may be rate-limited for a period of time.

·
·

reply.gif
Lol my last reply was for someone else, my mistake.
The reply for: more votes, especially many very small votes) the greater the chance you may be rate-limited for a period of time. is this you are right, i was upvoting with a bot, massive upvotes, more than 40/day. After the slide i decided to put the voting power in 100% and its taking forever to regenerate, now its 50.1% and up and 3 days not making any upvote, just replying old posts.
Results of this strategy? im making more profits for the next days commenting than upvoting or posting new material!!! thanks to you i intend to keep this strategy until i learn and see how the others create quality content so i can make one, hopefully.

·
·

reply.gif
Ok, the reason im doing this is as i said in the post is being grateful with those who helped me, not just the value in $$. But again thank you for the support :-)

hmm really good information for every one thanks @alexpmorris

I found your post very usefull and full of informations as i am a newbie. But the title also says "here comes steemtube" which i really didnt understand. Is there a steem website like youtube? As i want to post videos than just photos or articles? Can you help me here?

·

you can already embed youtube and vimeo videos into your posts. there are also initiatives such as steemQ by @furion to make a sort of steemit "YouTube". However, monetization is always an issue for such content (and most content, really), since the work isn't suddenly "worthless" after 7 days, just because the post can no longer being upvoted for additional value. This script demonstrates how such content can still continue to be monetized, albeit to a slightly lesser degree, but continually monetized nonetheless.

·
·

Thank you for your time.

·
·

I find some of the older posts very valuable and upvote them!!

Give him a sec or two.. strong words coming...

Again ty for this, and Imma read it now... Upvoted first;)

I know I'm getting "brain food" :)

Cheers!
