Steemit.Chat is BACK, and FASTER than EVER!
While some were still able to access the site via its direct address at http://52.15.210.158/home for the past day or so while new SSL certificates and DNS updates were being worked out, it now appears that https://steemit.chat is accessible once again!
(hope @uwelang doesn't mind I borrowed this image from one of his recent comments!)
For those who don't yet know what happened, James (aka @riverhead) explained it here:
Looks like a network card failed in or near the server. For those curious when it went down we were processing 45 Gigabytes of messages per day for about 12k users. When we migrated to this server it was around 500 Megabytes a day for around 4000 users. While we've tripled in size since then I suspect the real growth is in the active users versus those that have made accounts and never came back.
To that end once I get box access again I'll be migrating the back end database to enterprise grade hardware (AWS EBS) that can scale with some real steem!

So, it appears that @riverhead and @firepower have now successfully migrated the site, and so far it seems really nippy! Of course, not everyone may yet be aware that it's back up, so I suppose we'll see how it goes as more people start "piling back in"!
However, it does seem the server specs have received a dramatic boost in performance and scalability, so it's likely steemit.chat is back for good and ready to handle some serious action!
And while I'm at it, perhaps I can take this opportunity to drill into your heads make one more "suggestion", especially since this happens so often on steemit.chat...

they are down again right now, but hopefully should be back soon. Many other crypto-related sites seem overloaded or down as well, probably related to the crypto sell-off today. But in this case, from @riverhead's update, it seems they've been trying to add more load balancing to the server:

check it out if you haven't already. it's where many steemians interact with one another (#general), find support for steemit issues (#help), and also share their latest posts (in #postpromotion), among other things. There are literally dozens of groups you can choose from!
