Your top 10 most 'valuable' comments - Get your list here!

My gift offering to you today: The 10 comments that earned you the most SBD - Luck? Judgement? Who cares it's paid out!?

Hello all!

This data-pull was inspired by @helenoftroy who left a reply on one of the recent 'information finding' posts which are linked at the end of this blog.

Why this data could be useful

It is often said that a new recruit should spend the majority of their early time in the comments of other blogs. The idea is to find content that you enjoy and strike a connection with, which should then hopefully provide you with the inspiration to leave an awesome reply.

The potential positive outcomes of this are a new follower, and upvotes. It's tough to gauge which will be more valuable to you in the long run, and much easier to list the direct monetary value associated with your comment.

The list will look something like this:

A closer look

Now before you perhaps get slightly angry at the values at the top of the list, I'd like to point out that most of these comments were made after HardFork 17 which made everyone's vote size skyrocket for a week or two.

The second thing I noticed is that these comments were made on posts whose owners have a lot of Steem Power. It seems logical to state that this is the place to be for the larger upvotes on comments/replies.

So what did I say?

Lets have a look what some of my 'top 10 most valuable (in monetary terms!) comments' look like. Before we do though, I'd like to state that I think the reward attached is as much 'luck and timing', as it is 'quality' of comment!

Number 1

And now you are thinking, is that it!?... I'm a little embarrassed to say yes. Luck/timing there I guess!

Number 2

This is a bit better. A whale asked for a summary of the vlog as he was mobile - I guess the summary was satisfactory to him.

Number 4

Maybe this should be 'number 2' :D

Check the post for the full lowdown there! - Firmly in the Luck/Timing category I think!

Number 9

Hopefully saved the day a bit here with a helpful comment upped by @fulltimegeek :)

Overall though, I think my top 10 were a bit lucky, and more about being in the right place at the right time.

So who wants to see their list?!

Yes, please! And thank you for the mention :) I appreciate you sharing yours too ... it's a good reminder that we should upvote comments we find helpful not just posts!

My pleasure, this one was your idea :)

If you get an upvote in before one of these large votes, you'll likely get a very good curation reward - so yes, i agree!

ahh, crazy July last year at the top!

Oh yeah! I was just getting started back in July and then on the 23rd we got the call about the twins and that put Steemit on hold for awhile. Those were crazy times. I was actually shocked how much things had changed when I finally came back (mid-January).

Is it a bad thing that most of these comments are responses to comments on my blog posts? I really do comment on other people's posts but usually not whales or dolphins. I try to spend more time encouraging little guys like me to keep it up. Advice or suggestions?

If in advice helping the little guys and gals, the plankton among us, ( am almost at minnow stage), If you comment on or upvote a plankton comment on your post you could do a quick look and see if they have a post that might interest you. If you find one you like, and know of another person (whale, fat dolphin) you could tag them in your comment. If I find a newbie that I think would fit good with a newbiereteemday resteem then I @newbieresteemday to call attention to it, or @newbiegames to call attention to the games that might fit for plankton.

And as for it being a bad thing for most of your comments being replies to comments on your post, not at all in my opinion, it shows that you care about what people have to say on your post, and that you are not just whistling in the wind by post dropping and forgetting the interaction part of blogging, so many people don't care, they just post and move on.

Great advice! Only a few regulars comment on my posts so I follow all of them and their content. I really do appreciate the people who take time to read my content and even more so if they take time to leave comments!

I recently ran across newbieresteemday but wasn't sure how that worked ... I just read your post on it and think I'm getting the idea. I like that you ask for submissions and then have the opportunity to give feedback. I'll have to try that out. Thanks for the ideas!

Now I'm just curious what Asher would say about the highest comments coming from comments on my post ... is that "good" curation?

You dominate! That much SBD and SP... well beyond my wildest dreams for any comment...

By the way, this one interests me Asher! Kudos!

It is very interesting..I can say mine..The list may go like this..1. Acidyo( $2.52) , 2. D-Pend($ 1.41) .. I don't know what come next..If you have the time,Please show me my comment statistics.

After reading the comments I am not surprised by some of the names popping up when you link back to where the comment was left. There are some wonderful people on this platform that not only spend the time make their comment sections great, and foster engagement. They also believe in curtailing their own comment sections.

I’ve been blessed a couple of times of having some of my more lengthy comments and engagements rewarded in varying amounts. For a while my comments where sometimes 60% of my total rewards some weeks if I recall correctly.

I know from one of my older blogs I’ve made in the past. Where I pointed out how good effort and thoughtfulness in a comment can lead to some kind rewards. I still believe my biggest comment payout was in that blog where I left 17 comments total.

They were some lengthy comments but still nothing close to one of my first comments I ever left on Steemit. I wish I still had the time and energy to leave such long comments! I’m sure a few people out there are also grateful I’m not lol.

haha!

Now I am interested to see if the links you have provided match up with what the database gives back.

And yes, epic comments there, especially the one in the 'old dogs' post!

Seems to be one or two nice rewards here :D

I forgot all about that second one! I luck out and had some open stuff when we switch with how rewards worked.

Thanks for showing me.

My pleasure :)

I love your lists, @abh12345 (lists are my life - lol)
I’d be happy to see mine, if you still have some time to spare.

A life of lists - I have a good friends who rule by them and are actually very successful/happy people!

Here we go!

Heading over to your post now, finally! :D

Gone through all the comments, and this was really useful. There were comments I had forgotten all about...

Some you completely forget to check back on, and then see a reward appear in the wallet that looks much bigger than a curation reward :)

True :0)
Thanks again for all the useful insights

Well in very interested in these stats. Me as a great commenter :)
Please, show me your magic Asher!

I know, no whales yet in my group🤔.
As a red fish, a dolphin looks like a whale to me!
To be honest: it is my biggest income on Steemit. My post are worthless without bots 😔

I'm not sure I want to see mine after what I'm seeing with y'all, but hey, what's life without a little pain, eh? If you please, I'd be very interested in seeing how my comment payout top 10 shake out.

I agree with your assessment of quality, funny and luck having something to do with a nice payout, along with a whale being involved. Unfortunately, quality and funny are both in the eyes of the beholder, and luck isn't something you can consistently control. Commenting on whale posts can increase your chances if that whale actually does pay attention to what is being said and is willing to reward it.

While I'm not looking to make $$$ with a comment, consistency would be nice. Especially with comments that take some effort and forethought.

Nothing to lose, and information to gain!

I think my list rather shows that timing and luck play as much as a part as effort and well thought out. Perhaps for consistency though, the 2nd option would work best

I'd totally forgotten about number one! As you say, nothing lost here. This has been very helpful. Which reminds me, I need to get on your weekly comment league. Heading over to that post now. Thank you!

Show me the money!!! Though I usually just average cents to a few dollars max!

Damn those are pretty high rewards although you did explain why.

This is why commenting and leaving good quality comments that add value to the conversation is very important.

Good quality / funny / lucky it seems. I think you can ignore June/July last year for me - crazy times!

Oh man that number one spot is a trip down memory lane. I like commenting on TM's post although a lot of people are put off by his unwavering optimism and view of how the blockchain will win in the end.

Frankly I like it and believe in a lot of what he has to say.

I needed to back read the comment on beanz and wow that was a long rant haha. Glad that I left the angry person who only thought that life in Steemit was unfair and move to a person that builds communities and engage no matter if it seems stupid to people or will not give a financial ROI.

I think he's on the right track too and enjoy his positive spirit.

haha, I just took a look at that - a changed man since then :D

wow this is cool, let me have it :)
Thanks for doing this Asher.
I appreciate it.

My pleasure :)

Only 2 so far, hopefully more coming soon!

I once received a $21 upvote on a few sentences I wrote in a reply to a running post awhile back. Blocktrades was the heroic force behind that stunner of a payout.

I file that one under “right place right time” aka lucky.

Yeah so many of mine fall into that bracket - I suppose it's not really what i'm trying to promote here, oh well!
