Daily Birding 📷 121 - Big Day is Coming!

Big Day is coming!
This Saturday, May 5th, 2018.
What is big day?
On May 5, Team Sapsucker will attempt a 24-hour quest to find as many species as possible and help raise $575,000 for conservation and research.
(Cornell)
Why is it important?
Funding is crucial for conservation and research for our avian neighbors. Many birds are threatened, with a big emphasis lately on shorebird conservation. A fun, informative, annual event like this is a great way to promote awareness and support for these amazing creatures.
You can donate per bird species they find, give a lump sum, or give at scheduled intervals. Remember, every amount helps.
Special donors agreed to match up to $65,000 today until midnight.

Special ebird Challenge - Win Binoculars!
You can also get involved by submitting ebird checklists on big day. Three eligible checklists submitted May 5th will put you in a drawing to win a pair of Zeiss Binoculars. Learn more about the challenge here. Submissions can be just a few minutes long and can take place anywhere you are. Remember to only record the species you can accurately identify.

Birdathons are many local Audubon Society's primary fund raising event. I'm leading a Birdathon, essentially a big day where I try to get sponsors to raise money locally for the same type of events Cornell is pushing for in their Big Day events. To check out the trip I have planned see https://tahoma.z2systems.com/np/clients/tahoma/campaign.jsp?campaign=53&fundraiser=7822& You can even leave a donation if you like. Good birding.
That's awesome :) It sounds like a good idea, staying in a smaller area. How many people will be joining? I especially think a lot of new birders get caught up in visiting all the far reaches and wind up disappointed when they don't find what they wanted to. All the birding luck to you!
Awesome Work!
I've verified that your photography is original, and that means it's so good that I had to check.

This does look exciting!! Are you going? if so Good luck tomorrow..... I hope you get some good photos. Have fun!
I will get out and do my own thing in my area. I don't actually think you can travel with any of their team. It is just trying to get awareness and excitement out there. So I'll go to a few of my favorite places nearby and submit ebird checklists. :)
