Following Jesus: Reasons why we should follow Jesus

Matthew 4:18-22 (NIV)
18 As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.
19 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”
20 At once they left their nets and followed him.
21 Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them,
22 and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

From the verses above, we can all see how Jesus Christ called on some of His disciples to follow Him and they left everything and followed Him.

Reasons mentioned in the post include

• because of miraculous signs and wonders
• because of food and other physical needs
• because of health challenges
• searching for justice and equity
• because of personal conviction in the person of Christ.

Today, I'm going to mention some reasons why we should follow Jesus today.
Here are some of the reasons why we as Christians should follow Jesus Christ today.

Because He is the way:

He does not just know the way, He is the way to God.

John 14:6 (NIV)
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Because He is eternal life and has the word of eternal life.

John 6:66-68 (NIV)
66 From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.
67 “You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve.
68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.

Because He is he final and sufficient revelation of God.

Hebrews 1:1-3 (NIV)
1 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways,
2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.
3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.

Because He is the one recommended to us by God.

Matthew 17:5 (NIV)
While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”

Because He is the one who has God's seal and endorsement.

God the Father has authorized and certified Him and put His seal of endorsement upon Him.

John 6:27 (AMP)
Do not work for food that perishes, but for food that endures [and leads] to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you; for God the Father has authorized Him and put His seal on Him.”

Because those who follow Jesus will never lose their reward.

Matthew 19:28-29 (NIV)
28 Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife[a] or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.

These are just some of the reasons why we should follow Jesus Christ and I tell you, you will never regret following Him.
