I wish I could say we have lovely weather here creating a warm and sunny welcome for SteemCampUK, but we do not. It's cold, wet and windy, positively autumnal. Never mind, we'll be safe and warm in the Phoenix Arts Centre.

I'm really looking forward to seeing people I've come to think of as friends, and meeting new-to-me people from around the UK. Lloyd Davis, who will be facilitating the event, posted a great little video about what an unconference looks like and you can find out more about the venue in this post.

Lloyd says:

[SteemCamp is] an unconference, that means everyone is welcome to come and talk about what they're most interested in about the world of Steemit and the applications of the Steem blockchain. Newbies are always welcome, we're a very friendly lot and it's a great place to meet other people who have all sorts of experiences of using this platform.

It's been interesting spending half a day a week or so, over the past three or four months, going round Leicester talking to people about Steem. It's been useful to step outside Steem, and hear the reflections of people who may have heard of Bitcoin, but not much more than that. It's been great talking to the City and County Councils, both of which have expressed interest in learning more and the City is sending a delegate to SteemCamp.

During the same period, there's been lots of development on Steem. Some of the developments address needs in the non-Steem world and provide opportunities to bring people to Steem without weighing them down in understanding how it all works.

Source Steemhunt, especially with the new Review feature launching in July, has two niche audiences - inventors and entrepreneurs who want their products reviewed and exposed to wider markets; and hunters - the people who earn rewards through reviewing and sharing their reviews of products.

Oracle-D Tasks offer a range of services to small businesses to help them get exposure, bringing investment into the blockchain and rewarding people carrying out the tasks - @revisesociology reported winning 118 steem and a cryptovoucher for completing a task to the required standards. With over three million under-employed people in the UK, these types of activities offer potential for people to increase their income.

With both of these, I can see how we might run a targeted session at LCB Depot and other managed workspaces, and at the University of Leicester's Free Cake Fridays, run by the Innovation Centre.

However, the most interesting posts for me in the past couple of weeks have been @taskmaster's The March Towards a Post-Capitalist World and @tarazkp's My Vision for Steem - staring back from the pool.

In @taskmaster's post, he explains:

We are moving into a world where there is zero marginal cost. The digital realm can reproduce things very quickly and with little to no cost. This is what killed some industries. We are going to see this expand into many different arenas.

Speaking of arenas, think about selling 20M seats to the Super Bowl. Do not think that possible? With Virtual Reality it is. One could get the rights to the game and sell the "seats" to as many people as want them. There is no limit. The physical suddenly became the digital.

The world we are entering is one where capital is no longer scare. With the population of the planet slowing, and digital technology advancing, we are only going to see "capital" become more abundant. This solves a lot of the present problems.

It does create one other that is vital to our future. Attention is something that is limited and will be scarce. The attention economy is going to still have scarcity in it since there are only so many places we can focus.

In @tarazkp's post, he points out that, in fifteen years, there will be:

No more votes from the pool.

But, that doesn't mean contributors don't earn, they will earn more. That is why there are SMTs and applications as they will be powered and stabilized by Steem, the protocol - not the currency. Not directly at least. SMTs can create their distribution, functions, payout windows, use cases and a whole lot of other factors including KYC if they want, however they want.

It's both these visions of the future that I'm interested in exploring and understanding more about at SteemCampUK ... and diversifying :)

Look forward to seeing you there!
