STEEM: The Time For A Minnow Uprising Is Getting Closer: Overwhelm The System

in #steem6 years ago

There is a move of late on the STEEM blockchain that is refreshing to see.

Basically, it is the "we need to stop belly-aching and do something" approach.

While nobody used these words, this is thecentral idea. On the STEEM blockchain, we like to talk about community. That means we are all a part of it. Since nobody owns or runs the blockchain, it means we all do.

Society tends to be filled with people who let others take the action while they just stand around. Anyone who did any volunteering knows what I am referring to. The 90/10 rule applies there; 10% of the people do 90% of the work.

Hence, the first question is do you have the "ownership" mindset with the STEEM blockchain. This place is ours. It is not perfect and there are things that need tending to.

@timcliff and @lukestokes both mentioned taking matters into their own hands when it comes to development. Each is putting forth ideas of how to enhance the development of the blockchain. They are correct. It is not the sole responsibility of the Steemit team. We are a community with a vested interest in what takes place on here.

A week ago, I wrote a post about an idea I had to stage a Minnow uprising. I won't go into all the details since it was in the first post.

https://steemit.com/steem/@taskmaster4450/time-for-a-minnow-uprising-overwhelm-the-system

The core idea is that the Minnows and Planktons overwhelm the system with their posting. Since the reward system favors authors by paying out 75% to them as opposed to 25% to curators, this, to me, seems like a way to increase the collective holdings of these smaller accounts.

What these groups lack in VP and influence, they make up for in sheer numbers. Even without the Inactive accounts, there are a ton more Minnows and Planktons than the other groups.

@arcange

There are about 138K accounts in these two categories as compared to under 2,000 in the ones above it. Less than 10% of those accounts could overwhelm the system. Posting 3-4 times a day, using the different applications on here, will result in a few hundred thousand posts in the month of July.

Another important criteria is that each person needs to use their allotted upvotes. This is very important. Support each other by forming voting groups. Join curation trails so that you get paid on your vote no matter how small it is. Follow each other so that you will have your feed filled up by others who are participating also.

In other words, do all you can to ensure you are receiving a part of the 3M STEEM that is available in the month of July. You are just as entitled to it as anyone else. What is lacking in voting power can be offset somewhat with activity and forming alliances with others.

It is time to help each other out.

On a side note, I quickly ran the numbers for the month of June. Thus far, in 2.5 weeks, the Minnows MVests jumped over 2% and the Dolphins 1.59%. The Orcas are down while the Whales have a less than .5% increase. I am not sure if the reduced price in STEEM meant more bought it to power up or if the numbers are naturally starting to overwhelm the system. If it is the later, let us really juice them by making a concerted effort to grab a larger share of the pie.

I read the other day that someone determined that almost half of EOS is in the hands of 10 accounts. This iss a blockchain that had an almost year long ICO in an effort to equal out distribution. The overall numbers show an extreme amount of the total in the hands of a few.

The good thing about STEEM is that, while we still have unenviable distribution, there is something that can be done about it. Each day, everyone has the chance to earn STEEM. By powering up, we increase our influence, especially in comparison to those who power down. This is something we do not see on other blockchains.

STEEM is being called the "blockchain of opportunity". This applies to everyone on here. It is time for Minnows and Planktons to assert themselves.

There is a little under 2 weeks until July kicks off. Do all you can to spread the word. Let us see if we can get 10K accounts involved in this.

Remember, this blockchain belongs to all of us.

Great news. Yes there is no doubt that the majority are Minnows and Planktons. The most of them dont know yet how to use the system and fear loosing their rewards while upvoting others. Curation trails are very good for every newbie to get more upvotes and followers. I used it before and had good experience.

You do bring up a very valid point @hanen, Steemit is a very confusing platform and does not endear itself to new people. It is tough to figure out what is going on and how to use this site. Some of the other interfaces are a bit better but for blogging, they all are tough.

D.Tube and Zappl are less of a learning curve since they mirror the traditional sites.

Great stuff mate!

Would be cool if we can stay in touch and build a relationship and friendship here on Steemit as I am a massive fan of your work!

I'm a very discouraged minnow these days, but I still post 2-4 times a day like I have been since Nov 2017. Prior to that I was not so prolific. Once I started posting more, everything got better for me here at steemit.

I've been writing a series of posts about my time on steemit for the last year. I never "went after" the big accounts and I still do not know who most of the whales or top witnesses are. I was doing well with getting upvotes from people who had maybe 5000+ sp at one point, but that has dwindled as many of those steemers have left, powered down, or delegated their sp to bots.

One of my posts about this year talks about my "poor networking." I feel like I should have tried to get connected with some of the top 100 accounts. Instead I posted minnow tips that no big account cares about. I get all kinds of praise and thanks from the little guys, but that does not pay my bills.

I too follow the arcange reports and I am dismayed at the drop in redfish in particular. We were getting close to 170K in that category at the beginning of the year. Everyone I have brought in this year is gone and will not return. My steemdunk is not voting, because most of the people I support are not posting now. I wake up to almost full power now and I used to be fighting to stay above 90%.

The only person I do have still on steemit is by son @bxlphabet. I can barely get him to post right now since he is in discord working on the steemmonsters green team as a writer. I hope that is a good move for him and I'm thrilled to see his excitement about this game. He is my reason for living and why I am still posting and trying here even though financial ruin is upon us both.

I like your idea and I hope the minnows will do as you say. Many I am connected to are as discouraged as me or worse, and are posting about it now.

Thanks for your reply @fitinfun.

It is discouraging to see the discouragement take over.

@whatsup wrote a great article about this earlier.

https://steemit.com/steemit/@whatsup/we-have-37-whales-and-129-615-redfish

Many I am connected to are as discouraged as me or worse, and are posting about it now.

This is the key and sums up how attitude effects everything. The reward pool does not change..the same STEEM is still available. Yet people posting less means that the bigger accounts that are consistent with their activity only benefit more. It is counter-intuitive but it seems that when things get bad, post more.

I hope many sign on and start posting...it would help smaller accounts. There is a lot of STEEM available each week for the taking.

I will keep going and trying to help my friends to do the same. A few of them are no longer talking to me at all after letting me know they did not appreciate my getting them sidetracked to post over here, but I will go as long as I can.

Thank you for the link and I will go look.

Oh wow honey. This is the most genuine thing I have read today. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I personally I'm not even a minnow yet but I am pushing myself to the limit. I am trying to do atleast 4 posts a day and I've noticed the more I share the more fun it becomes.

I stopped looking at it from a monetary perspective as that was becoming very frustrating. Not I look at it as a social media platform with added benefits.

I hope things look up for all of us, we are investigating time and energy and hopefully in the long run we will be glad we stuck it out.

I will be closely following your journey. Very nice to meet you once again @fitinfun

Thank you so much @elsiekjay. Unlike many people here - social media posting is how I earn a living. I hope I will be able to continue with steemit because I like it so much. But I can't do any of my work if I am out on the street.

You have really awesome posts and if you don't need to earn money from it, I know you will continue to succeed :)

Haha. Thank you hon. I was very fortunate to have a great mentor like @energyaddict22 weeks after joining. I believe that is how we got acquainted. I do also work fulltime online but not entirely on steemit, I do some CPA Affiliate Marketing fulltime so I can understand where you are coming from.

I would also like to do Steemit Full-time, that is the end game I am aiming at, but for now I resolved to have fan instead of beating myself over it. It makes things so much easier.

I would suggest looking into another opportunity to supplement that which you gain from here. That way you willfor have a peaceful head space to be creative and focused on your steemit goal. I believe that is Partly why Jerry is inadequate on this sides, he embraced what he calls the job pf his dreams :)

Steemit is truly a worth it long long term investment, and even though it maybe frustrating at times, I believe if we continue being persistent we shall rip in the end.

Feel Free to Contact me if you need a friend to talk to @fitinfun

Thank you so much, @elsiekjay. Right now I am scrambling to pay my rent and bills for July on two continents, and should have come to my senses about this place much earlier.

Great read, thanks for sharing. I'm new to the Steem ecosystem and eager to learn and grow with all of you. I'm a bit confused about these groups to join to help grow and which ones are actually legit. Any advice?

I understand a lot of how Steemit works, but when I explain it to less technical friends to join it seems overwhelming and takes 3-4-5 beers to explain it haha. Is there a Steemit for dummies post I can refer them to?

This isn't thorough, but this is what I paste on the bottom of all my posts for people coming from outside Steemit to get a very basic grasp of what it is:

What is Steemit?
Steemit is a social media site on the blockchain. The blockchain is a revolutionary technology which decentralizes power and money. Steemit is the hottest new blogging site where we reward each other with cryptocurrency for contributing valuable content by upvoting it. Each upvote gives the content producer Steem, which is a currency on the blockchain that can be held as an investment or traded for US dollars! Accounts are free, and when you sign up you're given free Steem to begin upvoting content you like. You can also start earning Steem yourself!

How do you become part of this vibrant, leading edge community?
Go to https://steemit.com and click "sign up."

I also notice one of the most primary things people need to know is that they're not using they're money to upvote someone; new Steem is created and doled out every day, and their upvote allots a certain portion of that new money to that person.

great info, thank you for sending it!

There is strength in numbers all told
It's fantastic! A sight to behold
If you know you are right
Then you put up a fight
Victory! Just watch it unfold

It is true that you won't get paid if you aren't doing anything!
I try to keep posting twice a day! I do keep on being active, engaged and interactive on the platform! I do hope that it will pay off!
There is still a long way ahead of us! Since that I did receive a rather big degelation, I am spreading my votes as much as I can, trying to make my followers base stronger. Because the stronger they are, they stronger I will be able to become!
Cheers,
Peter

You are doing very well @fullcoverbetting.

You account is looking good and you will be up to Minnow soon. Only 115 SP to go.

It does take work but I am a true believer that even a couple SP will make people very happy in the future.

Thanks @taskmaster4450. These encouraging words mean a lot to me!
Cheers,
Peter

I'd love to participate in this! As a rising Minnow, i fit right in to the target group involved. I just need a refresher on curation trails and some connection to other's like me getting involved with this so we can support one another & this push for minnows to impress 😉 Who's in?

I find the best way is to get involved in curating organically from tags you enjoy reading by going steemit.com/created/THING_THAT_YOU'RE_INTERESTED_IN.

For me, that's art, gaming; and not much else. Start commenting on that work, in particular on that of lower rep users that shows exceptional quality, or potential. Engage them. Be social!

Do it on a regular basis. There's so much out there, and what I enjoy the most, is reading things I wouldn't normally. That's the true value of the Steem block chain.

Although, should we rename it the blog-chain?

Haha! That's punny 😉 i just wasnt sure if there was a specific minnow curation trail, and then re-learning how to do a curation trail! I definitely have the engage thing underwraps but how do I know who of them are minnows!! It's not simple to discern.

I suggest u use alfanso bidbot. I upvotes with minimum 5% ROI. As it believes in promoting minnows without harming their interests

Thanks for sharing this information. It is hard to find curation groups that are going to be immediately beneficial. I think most of them that you are able to join these days is going to be more of a long haul type thing. You might finally see the returns a year or two from now. I think a revolution if it were to take place on Steemit would happen slowly. There are just too many accounts and too much content these days. Even if you are out there making connections and building relationships, it's a steep hill to climb...
