How to become a Dolphin WITHOUT buying any STEEM?

in #steem5 years ago (edited)

If you are reading this in the hopes that there is a secret method of becoming a Dolphin then you are going to be disappointed.

To put it bluntly, you are never going to make it by use of organic votes and blogging (unless you are a Minnow I and closing in).

That ship has now sailed, and the number of approximately 1974 STEEM Dolphins is only going to increment by one method.

'By buying STEEM and powering it up.'

How do I know this?

I can see my own personal history, and observe the results.

Over a year ago, I joined the ranks of the STEEM bloggers and my current organic rewards are still falling well short of 5000 STEEM.

image.png

I have been powering up from my first week until now and so gaining STEEM at an increased rate than a total non-buying organic account would have. Yet my STEEM rewards are still around 4200.

Compare this with an account created in 2016, and you will see the difference. If that account sustained an average post rate of 5-7 a week, then it would be well into triple or quadruple Dolphin territory.

The majority of that earned STEEM would have been in the first twelve months. After that, it would be a fraction of the initial rewards and diminishing indefinitely.

So it’s too late for me?

Yes if you’re expecting DolphinHood to come by NOT investing. Maybe it’s not what you want to hear but it is fact.

The reward pool, while inflationary is also deflationary and there's less to go around the longer you leave it. Maybe in a couple of years, it will not be possible to attain organic Minnow either?

line.jpg

Should I buy in?

Now is as good a time as any. The price of STEEM is still low but not at its' lowest. I have personally seen it at a high of $4.15 and as low as 21c. I have invested in STEEM, but am well aware that not everyone else can due to circumstances.

STEEM is currently 34c. You tell me if it's at a high point or a low one and a good time?

Simply by powering STEEM up, you do gain more. Have a look at this link and substitute your name at the end. You can see your stake increasing in real time.

This post is not an attempt to create FOMO, it's just factual and something that occurred to me some time ago. I would like to hear other views about this, so please chirp up.

This is a Dolphin post, not a Minnow one

Yes, it is, like all investments the larger your stake the larger your return. If you are already a Dolphin who created your account LATER than December 2017 then you ARE a STEEM investor.

If you have just become a Minnow or are smaller and have loftier ambitions, heed my words.

'You will never become a Dolphin unless you open your pockets and invest.'

These are still early days, STEEM is still very cheap and it’s not too late to become a medium sized fish and make a difference to your stake.

I am not a financial adviser and anything I say above is probably bullshit. You have been warned.

I started in June 2017 and invested a little , and then later spent some on Steem Monsters, I managed ot make dolphin but climbinh ever os slowly, your right if you look at those that joine din 201 there is a huge difference
I had not seen that steembottracker site where you can see your numbers changing that is so cool thanks for sharing it

Yes, you got in early enough to make it, whereas there was no chance for me 8 months later.

Yes indeed it makes such a difference I had not really thought about it till reading your post

It is pretty disgraceful right? I mean you and I should at least be Orcas now for the amount of time and effort we have put in here! :) I reached the max I am able to invest right now some time ago and I have been doing the organic push to dolphin hood. I think I stand a pretty fair chance of reaching it, but we will see.

I said many times, McDonalds pays more than here. Its terrible for time vs rewards.. but there' s more to it than that. We are all much better writers now than we were 2 years ago.

For sure! It would still be nice to think we were going to have something to show for it five or ten years down the road!

I'm getting better. I had no idea of the quality I would find here on steemit.

It is extremely varied, but if you look you can find some that can are worthy of reading. A little humour goes a long way I have found.

I am finding enjoyable reading and some funny people around here that make me laugh...that's worth a lot.

So true.

And you know as well as I do that money follows money on here. I've started to pick up all sorts of occassional votes from 10-30K accounts recently. I'm 100% convinced many of them wouldn't vote me if I wasn't their peer.

I'm sure there's some of way of verifying this statistically. Project for @abh12345.

Happy May Day - Easy shit post today for us today coming up on 'Power up Day'. That's a guaranteed 8 STU for you and 3 STU for me....

Oh look those figures broadly correspond to our SP!

In other words... I agree... go buy some steem people.

There's a lot of talk about supporting Minnows and RedFish, but we rarely see Dolphin posts. How about 'support the Orca's?'

Yes, they can support themselves and don't need it, we already know that, but I'm always the one to rock the boat with something a little different.

There's so few Dolphin's and we really need more. Should I say work hard and you will get there? It's not gonna happen.. not now.

Oh and I do like your content btw!

Oh I agree - there are plenty people that should be risking a bit more if you ask me!

And at £40 for 200 steem - that's a bargain.

I'm on for 15K in the near future, but I'm powering up my alt-account instead now.

Posted using Partiko Android

Been meaning to ask, why are you powering up the alt? Any specific thinking behind that?

It's because I want to funnel all my steem through @ocdb and it makes sense to have it powered up temporarily so I can use it while sitting on the exchange, I'll gradually power that down to feed @ocdb on here.

As i'm sure you've noticed, you can burn through a few hundred steem a month easily with @ocdb.

If I have the money just sitting in my steem wallet, I'll just keep buying stupid chests on nextcolony, and I've thrown enough money at that game.

that is a very good point and this way you can even earn a bit more along the way... might also do that

Money comes to money, I have heard in the past. Fair to say that it is mostly the case here. Imagine if everyone self-voted 10x a day :)

@tarazkp asked me recently how many accounts who have earned enough in SP to be a certain size and are still at that level, so I think I'll pad a #spud post out with some numbers today.

I believe I supported both of you prior to dolphin level, partly because you write interesting stuff, partly because you are Brits, and partly because you seemed to want to grow a stake here. Having now met you both and looking at your accounts, I'm glad to done so.

Supporting peers a solid growth strategy these days, dare I say more important than content?

You were a little intimidating to me when I first noticed you here. A community leader, so should I make the effort to wave 'hello' being this small fish? But thanks, for the comment.. and the early support.

I don't see myself as a community leader or intimidating, but I guess it's not what i see is it :)

Quite an apt post for #spud day this one. I agree it is becoming increasingly tougher to reach 5k SP via author rewards as time passes. In the beginning you could do this with your intro post!

I don't see myself as a community leader or intimidating, but I guess it's not what i see is it :)

Well you are (a community leader), as the the other bit.. well look at the number of comments you get on your posts.. we all have finite time and I'm not one to wave and say 'pick me'..., maybe I chose the wrong word..

Yes those votes helped a lot back when starting out, as did the engagement leagued more generally, so cheers!

I should really find more smaller accounts to support. Might make it a May focus.

Of course only those with content I like, but there isn't too much of that about.

You do get it back if they hang around.

There's also smething in supporting people who are prepared to risk FIAT - and wout people buying it our FIAT investments are going south!

Buying it is just so much easier. Doesn't give one an excuse to write trash but it definetely makes your actions less selfish if you are an investor.

I can see you joined the same month I did, and are a Dolphin III, which means you have bought. I just wish more would, but most want something for nothing.

Like anything in life if you want to get ahead, get the ball rolling and not make 1 cent an hour plus luck, invest. Your numbers are great, you forgot one thing, your writing style is excellent, the quality is terrific and most people here will not be able to replicate your success.

Thanks, I don't know whether its great or not.. I just do it ;)

I joined in 2017 but I didn't post more than once or twice a week until early 2019. I made dolphin from a very generous donation then power up by an account called binance-hot. However I think with around 3000 to 14000 steem one can do extremely well. I kinda want my vote to equal 1 steem one day.

Congratulations! This post has been chosen as one of the daily Whistle Stops for The STEEM Engine!

You can see your post's place along the track here: The Daily Whistle Stops, Issue 468

I joined Sept 2017 but didn't know I was on until about 2 months ago when @broncnutz, my son, told me I had an account so, really I'm just getting started and did buy steem.

Good for you, I see you are a double Dolphin, welcome to the fold!

I'm not sure what that means but I'll take it.

5000 STEEM = Dolphin, 10000+ STEEM= Double. Everyone has their own terms for it.

Good for you, I see
You are a double Dolphin,
Welcome to the fold!

I'm a bot. I detect haiku.

Yeah.... I just might reach Dolphin status this year... blogging on Steemit since June 2017.

I hope you get there!

I know I willl.... I have some old Binance and Bitcoins I could sell if I wanted to be a Steem whale. Afraid to sell them though...

That's so cool. I had no idea about this and to watch it increase like a taxi meter is inspiring. At my stake it moves really slow but I get the point and have some thinking to do.

Interesting perspective as I have been thinking about this lately as I intend to slow down my purchases once I get to 25k SP although I really want to become an Orca at 50k! With about 2.5k SP earned, I may be short without continuing my purchases and taking advantages of these prices!

While it's tempting to buy more STEEM, lately I have been getting some Etherium and Litecoin. While I do love STEEM, it's always wise to not put all your eggs in one basket.
