Get Paid to Do What You Love - The Future of Advertising and Media - Crushing It! Lessons Learned #2

in #steem6 years ago (edited)

Hey everyone! Welcome back to the second edition of Lessons Learned From Crushing It! (GaryVee's Newest Book) Today I'm going to share the lessons that GaryVee discusses when it comes to influencer marketing as he analyzes the market in its current state and what he thinks the future holds for social media influencers!

Current Book & Quotes From: Crushing It! by Gary Vaynerchuk

In the first chapter - THE PATH IS ALL YOURS - Gary starts off by talking about the influencer market and how it is taking a sizable chunk of traditional media and is continuing to grow. He talks about the numbers and also goes on to say that right now is the best opportunity to become an influencer - there are so many market forces that are working for your benefit, you just have to put in the work and talk about what you know and love.

Here are the numbers that Gary shares:

  • "YouTube's daily viewership is closing in on TV's 1.25 billion hours per day, as television viewership falls every year.
  • One in every five minutes spent on mobile is spent on Facebook's apps and services.
  • Every minute, 65,900 videos and photos are posted on Instagram.
  • Over 3 billion snaps are created each day on Snapchat, where over 60 percent of ads are watched with the audio on."

These numbers are absolutely incredible and when I first read them, they brought to mind the power of efficient media. When one platform is simply superior to another platform, it really takes off and the numbers speak for themselves. This makes me think of Steem compared to many of these other platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Youtube... I believe that Steem really has a fundamentally better platform and while Steem is far from perfect, this community is working hard to roll out all the kinks and make this an even better platform.

I think it's just a matter of time until we see Steem mentioned in those astronomical market figures and better yet, Steem deserves it's own category just for being so unique and incredible.

Building a personal brand and getting paid to do what you love is even easier on Steem than on any other platform because you don't have to worry about trying to find brands and influencers to pay for ad spots on your content - you can just post and let the community decide if your content is worthy of an upvote.

Anyways, back to the book. Gary also mentions that brands are spending 3x more money on social media since 2009. Influencer marketing has become more than just a pipe dream, it has become a reality for so many people and it really can become your reality - if you work hard enough and talk about what you know and love.

Is this really legit? How much money are people really making as influencers? "The top-grossing YouTubers earned a combined $70 million in 2016."

These numbers are continuing to grow and as more and more influencers hit the market, there are more and more platforms and a growing audience to greet them.

"The median salary for US employees is about $51,000. You can earn that as an office manager, or you can earn the same amount running your own business built around something you love more than anything."

This really speaks to the nature of what kind of life you want to live - do you want to live the "safe life" or do you want to follow your dreams and make just as much money or more by doing what you love every single day?

I urge you to start posting more on Steem. Post about what you know and love. Gary's talking about other social platforms and about how influencers are making a killing through product placements, advertisements, endorsements, etc. but I think you can actually bypass that stuff for now by building your personal brand on this amazing platform. You can always add these revenue streams when your audience grows, but why not get paid for your hard work in the meantime through upvotes?

What does it take? Hard work, consistency, dedication, patience, passion and just talking about what you know and love. Do these things on Steem and you will grow your influence over time and eventually you will be able to tell all your friends and family that you make your living doing what you love - whether you're an electrician or a real estate guru.

Thanks for reading! Gary's book is packed with lessons and I already have a bunch of posts lined up, so stay tuned! Also, if you haven't yet bought his book, I highly recommend checking it out. Gary's past several books alongside his vlogs have really changed my life and he is one of the most authentic and genuine people out there. He's here to help - but only if you put in the work. 🚀

Well, my goal is to post on Steemit every day, but sometimes my lifestyle takes me away from the computer for a few days or even weeks (that's very rare, but it happens), so sometimes I have to miss out on this specific goal. But I try to to my best and post something good as much as possible.
While I do agree that Steem blockchain is great place to bubild a brand and earn money by doing what you love, it's not as easy as posting and letting the community decide if they want to upvote you or not.
Because if all you do is just post, nobody is even going to see the content you put out and there won't be anyone deciding to upvote you or not.
If you don't have any friends here on steemit, it's a really hard grind if you want to be seen. And since Steem blockchain is going to become even more popular as time passes, it's going to get progressively harder to get noticed.

"But I try to to my best and post something good as much as possible."

This is really the key @trendo, and I see that you've already figured it out.. Just do what you know and be passionate about it and you will succeed!

I appreciate your constructive criticism as well and I agree that it's not as easy as just posting and letting the community decide. I do think however, that posting regularly and passionately for a long-time will result with you gaining more followers and eventually (but slowly) growing the amount of upvotes you get each post.

This process can also be accelerated by doing a few things:

  1. Post promotion via bots
  2. Buying a Steem Power delegation
  3. Buying Steem Power
  4. Networking and making more friends
  5. Participating in projects and various networks on Steem

I also realize that many of the strategies that accelerate your progress on Steem also have a lot to do with investing.. But I think having skin in the game is a great way to incentivize growth of the entire network. It is hard to get noticed and it is a slow grind, but I urge everyone to keep at it. While the platform has grown a lot recently, it's still very early in its adoption - we are the early adopters and this is a "land-grab for attention" - as GaryVee would call it.

I think you can actually bypass that stuff for now by building your personal brand on this amazing platform.

This is a great application of Gary's teaching. The more I post here the more I can see what my "personal brand" is. At first I was frustrated and didn't know where I fit in but over time I find what I like to do. Steemit has a way of forcing to find out what is inside even if we are not sure of what our personal brand is.

Thanks @mineopoly!! I totally agree with you, posting on Steemit has really taught me a lot about myself and the direction I want to head in life. To say that Steemit has changed the trajectory of my life is an understatement - it has fundamentally changed who I am and I've changed for the better! I'm glad to hear that Steemit is having a positive impact on you and your life as well and I've really appreciated learning more about you as you share your stories/experiences here!

For me personally, my brand rally around my passion, i will post often band more often, I will post about what I love doing, that which gives me joy and personal fulfillment, I will post about my love for humanity and to see others make success.

I want to build a brand here on steemit, that when you think of touching life, you think of @samiwhyte, this is what I love doing, this is what I represent.
Thanks for this opportunity to say what my brand will be @khaleelkazi

Great lesson today! He and you know your stuff :)

I am going to post several posts a day but keep my subjects and branding consistent!

Photography, vintage gaming/technology and cryptos that matter to me.

Steem has a high ceiling in my opinion. I think the only thing holding it back honestly is that people outside of crypto don't really know about it.... Besides that it really does give you the chance to earn additional income talking about things you love. Can't wait to see where it is a year down the line.

It is true that only people that had tangency with crypto are here, at least most of them; but in order to perform like a successful platform I think (my humble opinion) needs a fresh approach and I have 2 points here:

  1. the concept - this point is nailed for sure
  2. the visual communication (user interface, user experience, mobile friendly, etc.) - and there is still a good amount of work to do :)

I tried to came up with a redesign of the platform in my first post.

Check it out and let me know what you think.

Currently I think it's the down time going on in the crypto world that is affecting our dear steem, soon the market will calm and steem will start to rise and the whole world will rush for it, then to earn steem will be difficult and those that hold it will smile.

I'm proud to have some steem today because i know the future of the steem blockchain.

so the content producers only got $70,000,000 a year for over a billion hours a day of use? At that rate DTube will crush youtube in no time! And that was before they demonetized all the small fry there!
