From SOS-forum to SOS-actionsteemCreated with Sketch.

The SOS-discord is becoming livelier every day. Its open character makes discussion multi-facetted and at the same time challenging to follow. More information and opinions will be flooding in with the SOS-forums restarting January 10th and people coming back from holiday. Great!!! This was the intention in setting up an open process. And thanks to @shredz7 and @rycharde a topic is already the right way of organising this discussion in future.

Besides staying on top of things there is a second major challenge:

How to go from SOS-forum to SOS-action without a management board deciding on what to do and where to go.

Here is a proposal on how to set-up a community-based strategy – not based on decision but on collective opinion making, unlocking knowledge and ideas of the crowd:

Goal of the next two SOS-forums should be to create a common knowledge basis on ideas and what is already going on. A series of reports could put this together with what is going on in the discord.

The fifth forum on January 24th could be used for a test run on collective strategy building. How about working with the portfolio method? By using this method different actions may be compared in their impact on strategic goals and their feasibility. A result could look like this:

Portfolio SOS.jpg

How does it work? Everybody in the SOS-forum audience could give her or his two-dimensional vote on every action proposed. Adding up all votes gives the position of the proposed action within the matrix. Actions in the uppermost right corners would be the most recommended ones. And then it’s up to everybody to take action, who feels he or she wants to be part of the big picture just being built.

What are the challenges in realising this?

A joint understanding of the y-axisses of the portfolios. These reflect the joint strategic goals. What do you think about the examples in the image?

Visualising the results while the SOS-forum is on-air. Herefore, we'd need a polling system with the ability to pull the results together into a portfolio. Does anybody know whether something like this exists? Or could it be built easily on dpoll? @emrebeyler @isnochys @bluerobo @tolgahanuzun

The images could be pinned within discord. Or maybe use VIMM-TV?

Furthermore, it “would have to be kept incredibly simple” @pennsif

A time structure could look like this:
10.00 PM: A reporter presents an image with all action ideas mentioned during the forum and in the discord.
10.05 PM The moderator - @pennsif - asks the audience what is missing. The reporter continues collecting action ideas.
10.15 PM Users are invited to participate in the poll by the moderator.
10.25 PM Result of the poll is presented and the experts in the round start discussing it.
11.00 PM A final – maybe slightly corrected result – is drawn by the reporter and posted on Steem, giving everybody – especially those not having participated in the poll - the possibility to comment on it.

This method probably has never been applied within such a governance and technological setting. So please comment on every facet of this proposal so we really find a good fit for the situation. Thanks!

Sort:

I like it. A lot! On a couple of different levels.

1: It gives us a (mostly) decentralized way to gather data in a specific manner and

2: Gives me something that I might be able to help with. Maybe as a sort of 'gatherer' during the forum? Cub reporter? Remember Jimmy Olsen was a cub reporter in Superman. Just sayin'

Cub reporter. An irresistable offer! There is still a lot to figure out but I'll come back to you as soon as possible. Just checking with @bluerobo from Dpoll concerning possible technical solutions. @pennsif - a team is forming.

Absolutely great!!

There is definitely a buzz of excitement in the Discord. It's everything I can do to keep up with the conversations happening there. But the effort is VERY worth it.

This post has been included in today's SOS Daily News - a digest of all you need to know about the State of Steem.

I think this is a great approach to organizing and prioritizing the tasks at hand while providing an open approach. Look forward to seeing this or something similr executed for and by the community. Thanks for your continued efforts!
