Top 3 Steemit News Of The Week

in #steem7 years ago

Looks like many of you enjoyed the little digest I published last week, about the 3 most important Steemit news. Here's what caught my eyes this week:

1. Conductor - A Simple Steem Witness Toolkit

After a hiccup of his witness node, @furion sat down, started to code and ended up with one of the most complete witness toolkits I know about, Conductor. With the importance of witnesses rising and with more and more people understanding the basic governance principles of this community, I think these toolkits are very useful. Basically, Conductor makes the task of being a witness less complex, lowering the barrier entry to newcomers. You still have to know some Python, though, and be aware that maintaining a witness node is a complex and - sometimes - a time consuming task.

mention of honor: @furion is on a roll these days, as he also launched a couple more projects, around SteemData, the mentions app and sbds (which is blockchain query using SQL, kinda neat).

2. New Tool From Busy.org: Create User Accounts with SteemConnect

@timcliff wrote a very comprehensive guide on how to create user accounts on SteemConnect. SteemConnect is one of the tools created by Busy.org and, with the new features, generating user accounts finally happens using a GUI (cli_wallet allergic people, rejoice, your time has come!). Creating a user account implies spending some coins from your own wallet.

3. Community Tokens On Top Of Steemit

@ned announced in a fireside chat at SteemSpeak that soon people will be able to create community tokens on top of the Steem blockchain, using a process similar to OpenLedger. A few people already created tokens using OpenLedger and pegged them to Steem, which is encouraging, but form what I understood, the new process will be different and more thorough. Ethereum grew 14 times over year (more than the absolute growth of Bitcoin, which was only 8 times) because of the ability to create ecosystems on top of the blockchain. I'm glad to see Steemit going in that direction as well.

(also, my tiny little project, steem.supply got a makeover and few new features)

All in all, the momentum continues.

the "mentions" thing... this needs to become a core feature!

out of curiosity: is there anything in terms of direct messaging to be implemented on steem, would you have heard of something?

People have been using the "Transfer" feature for a while to send 0.001 STEEM to each other and fill the Memo field with messages. It then appears in your transactions log. I know there was some project a few months ago by @charlieshrem but I didn't hear much about it since. A lot of people are still hanging around the steem chat.

the transfer-messaging makes sense as a workaround. thanks for following up.

The community tokens feature is just mind blowing. Businesses will become the next generation of coin pushers and will take crypto to the next level. I can't wait! :)

Appreciate the news updates... this is quite useful; gets people the high points in a quick and easy presentation.

Steem.supply looking good, too!

Cool features introduced..
