Late Night Ramble: People Come, People Go... a Shout-Out to some "Lost" Steemians
From time to time, I take a little meander to check up on fellow Steemians who used to be regular fixtures in my feed, but who seem to gave fallen silent...
It often surprises me just how many people who were active community members just quit all of a sudden, with no particular explanation.
I'm surprised... but then again, maybe not...
To where has your ship sailed?
Missing In (In)Action?
Earlier today I noticed a post by @whatsup wondering what happened to @nonameslefttouse who was also a regular fixture in my own feed.
Made me wonder whatever happened to @arthuradamson, another artist-philosopher who often shared some amazingly deep explorations of the human condition.
As I explored a bit in several previous posts, part of our issue here may simply be that people still don't view any of the Steem front ends as social venues, but purely as "money making" destinations.
Meaning that the content they do create isn't really "content," but merely "place holders" made for the purpose of generating a reward.
As a "career" content creator, what I tend to do — 90% writing — is about generating broader awareness, building social connections, and doing something I really enjoy... writing! I absolutely enjoy the fact that I get rewarded for what I do, but I'd be doing it, regardless of whether I did, or not.
Long-winded way of saying that the people missing in action were genuine content creators, not cash grabbers.
Rowanberry tree is blooming!
A Few More...
Some, it seems, get in "fights" with others and leave... particularly when the result is a flag war.
For example, another person I regularly interacted with was @kafkanarchy84 who evidently got in a squabble with someone 4-5 months ago and stopped...
A lot of people I enjoyed were artists whose work was unique and they seemed to have found a home here. Another one I remembered today: @steemitadventure, who disappeared 6-7 months ago.
And then there was @sykochica who went offscreen after her cat Gizmo sadly passed away, some nine months ago. Not convinced Gizmo and her leaving were connected, though...
Of course, there are many more.
What's significant about the above is that they didn't power down, they just stopped. Which, I suppose, leaves me mildly hopeful that they might come back, someday.
How about YOU? Any "Old-Steemians" you know who have gone missing? Do you think they'll come back? Leave a comment-- share your experiences-- be part of the conversation!

I have been lurking and just tossing couple upvotes last few days. I saw this post randomly in my feed and decided to read it and was surprised to see my name. Thanks for remembering me! sounds corny but its true lol
I will be posting shortly :) and glad to see you around!
Coolness! You're still here! Serendipity and all that good stuff!
You were one of a group I was curious about; folks who didn't consciously power down and leave... but who just stopped.
I shall keep an eye out!
Well since that last hardfork and yes the bear market has plenty to do with discouragement. That plus the lack of true friendly interaction and as usual troll (s) have the ability to just come by for no reason at all and flag is quite discouraging as well. I have many friends that came here and have left some of whom I still see but in places like Instagram, these friends enjoy the positive interaction, even if they earn nothing at all. Another issue is many people are not into heavy writing and many people in Steemitverse expect not a blog, but a book for a post.
As for me, some or all the above are issues, but also my lack of good health and eyesight problems, which I have stated since the beginning of my Steemit blogs and I have also found snobby kids that think they are gods and have demonstrated a less than admirable attitude (they are pretty popular here on Steemit and many people believe they are pretty ‘helpful’ when the help hypocritically is here just for making not just a few dollars, but many more than the average joes. Hence, their true personalities are revealed in the chat rooms). I think Steemit maybe more for the future novelist, merely my observation during the almost two years I have been here so far. Hope this changes in the near future, but there are so many options where to go other than Steemit.
The trolls here (and they pretty much always seem to be different incarnations of the same people — most likely frustrated Reddit sub-redditors who got banned/shadow banned) bother me mostly because trolling is one of the most myopic and self-involved things you can do online. It's the bully in the school sandbox who smashes everyone's toys and then sits in the middle of it all howling "me, me, me, me, MEEEEEE!" without the slightest cognizance of why they are even doing what they are doing... let alone the annoyance they are bestowing on everyone around them.
I'm still here because I enjoy writing and interacting... and my original objective of "social blogging" is still alive — even if in a small way — here.
Wonderfully said.
Hey, @denmarkguy.
I guess we all have those folks. I know a lot of the people I came in with have either curbed their time here, disappeared completely, or can be found in different parts of the STEEM-verse, particularly with the new games that have come out. Posting something of value on a regular basis takes a lot of things, including time, and in some cases, it just becomes easier to play STEEM Monsters and Drugwars for the promise of future card value or whatever. I guess we're doing similarly with STEEM, so there's that.
I think it is a good sign that the folks you speak of have not powered down. That mostly likely means they're taking care of business elsewhere rather than giving up entirely on STEEM. In my case, I need STEEM to come back up or I lose a substantial part of my investment.
So, anyway. To acquaintances gained and lost. :) May they all eventually return. :)
Hi there @glenalbrethsen, I'm afraid you're quite right about some of these "disappearances" being game related. I know some of the people I no longer see have been sucked deep into DrugWars, even though it seems to me to be little more than a thinly veiled Ponzi waiting to collapse...
Most people are somewhat fickle, I suppose... chasing from one "great promise" to the next in hopes they'll hit the big jackpot. I'm probably just old(fashioned) because I came here for the social blogging venue, and I'm still here for the social blogging venue... and plan to continue precisely that for as long at there is a social blogging venue here.
What prompted this post was precisely that these folks had not powered down... they just stopped, and it wasn't just to shift strategy to curation, or to delegate their SP out.
Indeed, let's hope they come back, someday! In the meantime, enjoy new connections!
It feels good to know that others feel similarly to different things as I do. When I first heard that the game allowed others to 'steal' stuff others had accumulated, often paying for it to have some of the best stuff, I was glad I wan't participating. Especially since bots or some other gaming of the system has a tendency of rearing it's ugly head.
I, too, came for the writing part of this STEEM platform, so that's okay. I think we need more curators, not necessarily creators. So, if those folks who are off battling it out in the games don't mind curating in some capacity, too, that's actually okay. That I'm afraid, isn't happening as much as it could, though, either.
Several of my favs decided they had other things they’d rather put their time into over the last year. Some other crypto projects, but mostly offline. I myself am struggling to post regularly with all I’ve got going on offline this year. Ebb and flow. Some who are gone will eventually return.

Indeed. I also know that I am atypical because writing daily takes priority for me, as a type of therapy/meditation... I work through a lot of my thoughts and ideas "in writing," so other aspects of my life tend to be what disappear first.
Staying here has actually been easier for me because I was getting less and less "traction" on Facebook, even with a 13-year old account.
yeah I always followed @clio and @cecicastor in their journeys but these are surely women where life is taking priorities so I am not blaming them at all, would love to hear from them though!
and yeah, loads of people went silent when the bear reached, i guess this is also sort of a natural thing that happens maybe?
I was a follower of @cecicastor, and I know she was also dealing with actual dangers to life and limb, because of where she and her family was living.
As far as I know, @clio is still around, but only reading/curating.
The bear market definitely did take some enthusiasm out of a few people's sails.
yeah exactly I am aware of cecis hardships from here stories, that is why I am even more interested on how she and the family and the country is doing... no jokes on what is going on there!
yeah every now and then I see some signals of clio popping by, but I really liked her stories as well, paths will surely cross again!
yeah the bear market wiped out a lot of the youngsters that were not motivated to go on I guess..A pity because the system is evolving so much!
I think a lot of them had "lambo dreams" and when they didn't make millions in a few weeks, they abandoned ship.
Too bad, because we're just on the leading edge of getting established now.
its work in the making...and a marathon, not a sprint...I have no worries at all :D
Life goes on outside Steem, and without it.
Yet, life works in circles. Some of them might be coming back...

It will be interesting to see what happens if/when the price of Steem suddenly runs up again.
Then some of them might come back.
It's when, of course :)
One that I really appreciate interacting with stopped posting pictures. Since then no news!

Funny how that happens. There was a guy who even ran two daily photo challenges, created a supporting web site and had an entire community going... and then he just stopped.
I guess a lot of folks thought crypto prices would just keep going up, and up, and up forver, without any bumps in the road.
It is a new economic model that never existed before and many folks came here primarily for the reward without passion for the ecosystem in the first place!
Very true. Just like a lot of the early nerds who built the early web mostly just wanted to play games online and look at Manga porn... the money was cool but they didn't really care about the globe-spanning applications of their creation.
The evolution of the internet has make a tremendous step forward since then.
