To my witness supporters: Lets vote on hardfork 17steemCreated with Sketch.

in #steem7 years ago (edited)

As you all know I need to make a decision whether or not to update my node and support hardfork of steem 0.17.0. I see that a lot of witnesses are making that decision themselves, but I always understood democracy as a process which empowers the voters and in that sense I can only serve a spokesman of my supporters.

If you are still not sure what the update is about, I explained in detailed what the new update “Simplicity” will bring to the table on this post: “Find out whats new on steemt 0.17.0”

If you vote for me I would like to hear your thoughts on these changes and ultimately I would like you to cast a vote whether you want me to update the witness or not, which I will be doing on Monday the 20th. I will keep a tally of the voting and will follow the outcome, my vote will count as 1 too and could be decisive if there is a tie.

Votes in favor

  1. @neoxian
  2. @l0k1
  3. @stellabelle
  4. @personz
  5. @tincho
  6. @giantbear
  7. @sean-king

Votes Against

I am preparing two nodes now, one with each version, if we decide not to upgrade but the hard fork goes through anyway (it obtains a clear majority of witnesses), I will update on Tuesday so that I don’t miss blocks.

In order to vote, you have to support me as a witness too, if you don’t I suggest you debate this hardfork over with the witnesses you do vote for.

I'm in favor of it, we need to try out new things and these change, though obviously not perfect, are needed. As @clayop said in their piece, we can always roll back (should be able to anyway).

Also I just voted for you as witness, I like your attitude. 😊 👍

Thanks for that.

HF17 Commentary - you might re-think, as everyone else who has actually read it has done.

No I don't agree with your analysis

Edit: I see you're spamming comments on this post, I'm just letting you know I'm flagging them.

well, witnesses agree that that is exactly what the HF will do so ... I don't mind the flags, what I do mind is people being misled. Why do you think steem has bounced? It is short-termism - and it will be dreadfully damaging. I can show you why if you like ... but maybe you would prefer not to know!

I have no idea why the price of Steem is up and down, I don't believe it's as simple as you're implying.

I'm not sure why you are saying you can show me why, I've read your articles and your position seems to be well laid out, and I resent the implication I would prefer not to know. Please! 🙄

I think you are in need of better research; throwing around accusations that there will be censorship (there won't), using incorrect figures, vague language and mixed metaphors does not make for a convincing argument. You said "I did write a very detailed analysis but I thought you might find that a tad dull – it is dull", perhaps you should have posted that. Dull posts are well received when they are accurate!

I don't think you can count witnesses agreeing with your propositions. @timcliff, @abit and @l0k1 for example all raised issues, among others, including @sneak.

Your call ... I have a lot more research and You are welcome to it if you would like it. What gets said beneath a post and what gets said elsewhere ... as I said, your call. Everyone seems scared to speak their mind in front of a whale - have you noticed the responses from whales? I have not ... there are not any to notice. My language is not vague. My figures were wrong in one small way due to the very poorly worded github release. I have amendments subject to confirmation but they don't make much difference.
All the people whom you mentioned did not raise any specific issue other than @abit and I await his confirmation.
And ... by the way ... according to the github release, my post was accurate and when fixed, it will remain accurate.
I do not see your problem - could you actually explain what it is?
The truth is an important thing to seek. I do it with all I have at my disposal.
Others prefer to accept what they are told.
Direct quote in a message to me from a witness: "I did NOT do enough research nor understand how FUBAR this hardfork could potentially be.
Retracting my push for HF17. After reading what you have there I'm actually horrified."

Alright, I've detailed it on your post.

And ... by the way ... according to the github release, my post was accurate and when fixed, it will remain accurate.

You have not yet updated the article.

Have you got a link for this?

I'm in favor of the hardfork.

HF17 Commentary - you might re-think, as everyone else who has actually read it has done.

I am also in favour of the hardfork

Thanks, although to be fair to my supporters you would have to vote for my witness to be counted.

HF17 Commentary - you might re-think, as everyone else who has actually read it has done.

I'm for HD17, and will support as witnesses the ones who will vote for it.

This is exactly how it should be done, you should support witnesses that represent your views on your platform. At the same time witnesses should be expressing the views of people who vote for them.

I favor the hard fork.

Thanks for your opinion @sean-king, it seems most people do... please vote for me as a witness so I can count your vote.

Done. 👍

I am in favour of the hardfork, hoping some well needed changes might just be enough to build Steemit :)

HF17 Commentary - you might re-think, as everyone else who has actually read it has done.

I tend to be in favor of it and at this point plan on updating to HF17 this weekend.

Thank you. I have read it and also read your more in depth analysis. I agree with some of your points. I think curation rewards to the comments might be abused but that rest to see.

I think you might have some numbers wrong too. I'm not sure.

As I understand it, 38% of the reward fund will go to the comments. Then 62% of the reward fund will go to the author's post and a maximum of 25% of those % will go to the curators. That's how I understand it. Also there is multiple ways to abuse the system. This is stated in the whitepaper. The idea is that abusing the system for oneself is bad for everyone else and thus everyone will fight the abuse so that overall Steem gain in value and the abusers on average won't benefit from their behavior.

I tend to be against all curation rewards and I'm in the top curators...

You are right about the numbers @abit corrected me on that - The github post was very poorly worded and I got it wrong.

Therefore, this is my understanding:

The distribution % is slightly different. It does not however, affect the capability of whales to hijack the rewards pool. There will be bot posts, bot comments and bot voting on an unprecedented scale.
All I have here is a tiny influence on the way in which votes are counted and valued.
I do not have an answer to the invitation to rort the system.

You might be right about the possibility of the comment reward pool being "hijacked". This kind of behavior would make the price of Steem go down. Right now what we are seeing from most whales is the intention of doing what they think is good for the platform and their stake overall. Most whales are now forgoing their curation reward because they have come to the conclusion it might be best for the platform and in the end their wallet.

Now I'm not saying the abuse of the comment reward pool shouldn't be a concern. It is a real concern and it's a good thing you're pointing it out.

Why has steem jumped?

I'm not to enthused about the 7 day pay out but let's see how it plays out. Otherwise, if we don't try, we don't learn.

In favor for the hardcork here too and thanks for your commitment too this platform too! @chitty

HF17 Commentary - you might re-think, as everyone else who has actually read it has done.

Actually voted for @chitty as witness too!

Please understand these things are hard for me as a non techie too understand. Just following the people who i trust and do things that feel right.

I am a non-techie as well! Every single witness I have interacted with over this agrees that the HF17 will produce exactly what I am suggesting. The whales control the price of steem - why has it bounced so much today? HF17 for the profits of whales!

Guess im reading some other stories than you,

But please enlighten me on why you believe this HF17 is such a bad thing?

Happily!
Whales can open as many accounts as they like
Use these accounts for posting spam via automated bots (unregulated)
Then they all comment on each others posts and vote on the posts and the comments in an orderly fashion and then get bots to distribute the value of the votes to a huge range of other accounts so that there becomes a hunt for the needle in a haystack.
Then they will say: Look, the distribution has improved ... but it has become more concentric.
It is just a big lie!
