'A few beers'? Yes, thanks to a kind soul here on Steem.....

in #steem6 years ago

I wasn't sure if i'd get time to write a post today. As a couple of blockchain buddies have commented recently (thanks for adding to the queue!), I've been receiving a fair amount of interaction on my blogs recently, and it has been taking me upwards of two hours each day just to respond to comments and replies on my posts, and the ones I've managed to make it to.

Today's photo comes from Cala Romantica - taken when I had fewer replies to attend to!

The blockchain tells me that in the past 7 days, 420 comments have been made directly to me - that's 70 a day! It's not that i'm complaining at all, it's really great to have such a high level of interaction here, and I'm really proud of that. My goal is always to reply to every comment that makes some sense, and i'll even reply to the ones that don't - expect a suspect gif or sly comment there though.

What i'm trying to say though is that this takes a fair amount of time out of my day, and generally it's not the commenting that brings home the bacon. They are however, essential for engagement. I need one and want the other, so I guess I just shut-up and get on with it :)

It is a little frustrating to hear though, that some lazy people have managed to produce 386 posts, and not a single comment. And yet for some reason, they still receive 10's of comments on their bid-bot boosted posts - what's going on there then?!

As @hitmeasap says, if you are commenting on posts from this type of account, you are wasting your time. Come and talk to me instead, I'll get back to you (at some point!) Alternatively, you could speak to someone on this list, i'm pretty sure they'll respond to you too.

Now I've padded out the content of this post a little, I can move on to the main topic of the day. Which is to say:

Thank you very much to the kind soul who dropped 20 SBD into my account yesterday!

Seriously, that is very very kind of you - whoever you are!

Yesterday I shared a little about my current financial situation, and while i'm not out on the streets or without clean clothes, i'm living pretty cheap for a Westerner. The dream of living off the Steem blockchain has made me a bit stubborn, I want to make it work, and doing such things as cashing out STEEM or thinking about powering down even a 13th of my influential Steem Power, does not make me happy. The SBD/STEEM cashouts are now essential actions, but I'm trying to do it as little as possible - I got prizes, donations, delegation payments, and Power Ups to sort out too.

It's true though, the occasional beer has become the very occasional beer.... and I like beer. So when I saw this transfer appear yesterday evening, I thought, you kind kind person you! As @meno has just recently discussed, the Steem blockchain has the potential for 'fake nice'. We are literally accountable for our words and actions here, and for the most part, it does 'pay' to be nice. However, there's no fake niceness about anonymously sending $25 to someones account, for 'a few beers'. That's just kind, selfless, and pretty awesome!

Again, thank you very much anon-steemer, you are most excellent!

So this evening, which is well underway but hardly started as far as the bar/club entertainment is concerned, I will be allowing myself a few beers, on you. It's the middle of the tourist season here, the party vibe is in full swing, and so it will be really cool to get involved. I might even apply a little aftershave (bought for me recently by a kind friend who may also give this blog a read) to mask the smell of clothes washed in minimal amounts of washing liquid :)

As always, thank you to everyone who supports and comments upon my no niche styled content. It's been 3 days without a list or a chart now you know!

Have a great weekend all!

Asher

That guy from @hitmeasap's post is really something, isn't he??!! Almost 400 posts and not one damned comment. I was floored, because I too have so many comments to reply to (maybe not as much as you, my commenting hero :), that it is hard to find time to write my own posts. It's very irksome (I'd like to use another word here fyi) to see that kind of nonsense going on.

BUT then, I see some anonymous person sending you beer money, and I feel like all is right with the world again :)

Enjoy the beers stinky good egg haha

😂

I'm clean shaven and wearing something that I can't tell smells good or not - a result for me ☺️

That particular account and a host of others can go suck a dick-shaped cactus as far as I am concerned. Whooops, Blockchain beer 4 in the house 😁☺️😁

hahaha 4-beer-comment. Just keepin' it real Asher! 😎

I think I can understand your situation perfectly, I live in venezuela, it is more than enough to know the economic situation that we live here, many of us help each other with steemit, it is a blessing, although I have not received anything anonymous you must feel very good, it is part of your reward for your great work, you know what I think of you, so I can only say *that they follow the blessings of heaven for you * and take a drink to my health! Greetings dear Asher

Honestly, I feel slightly embarrassed to receive this gift when I know there are many in a worse, and frankly quite ridiculous and crazy financial situation.

I will continue to spread my vote around and support such initiatives as @adollaraday in the hope that it reaches such people who are living on a thread right now.

Thanks for your comments @melvadg, best wishes to you.

It's nice to read a post like this... if nothing else because it offers a nice counterpoint to the whole "cash grab" attitude we also see here.

But it's also nice to see because it brings me back to an old post by @stellabelle from... meh... early 2017(?) about the entire principle of Steemit as a "gift economy."

I believe that spirit still runs through many people here. Perhaps it has faded a bit... but I'd still like to think that people can do well by the blockchain, without it involving "raping and pillaging" and selfishly burning the establishment to the ground, just to have a reward. Metaphorically speaking.

I remember such posts by @stellabelle, who was an early inspiration for me.

Anonymously sending tokens is particularly selfless and full on gift economy style.

There are clearly some of us still pushing this idea, even though it may not have been the original or end goal for the Blockchain.

I think I owe you a reply or two on previous posts, apologies for that, I'll try to catch up soon.

Thanks for the comment and the gift economy mention, I'd like to see more of these words hit the chain 😊

Well congrats! That really was a nice thing for someone to do. Maybe all that engagement paying off. Have fun I am sure answering all those comments works up a thirst.

Thank you, it really just that.

I should really go get that beer and respond to some comments at the pub 😁

These kinds of posts are nice to read too. Sometimes the spirit of humanity can be very generous, and it restores us.

Honestly, I don't know how or why someone would want to respond to so many comments, unless they wanted to develop a noticeable positive reputation. Clearly you do so not for fake self-interest, but because this is your nature. Caring for others is the first step, and only qualification that matters to build community friendship.

Thanks, and yes you are right - a single nice action can raise the spirit of many.

I respond to them because they are directed to me :) It's like someone speaking to you and you not responding. Sometimes no response is OK due to the inappropriate of the comment, but if there is something to respond to, I'll try to do so.

Thanks for your comments :)

That makes sense.

In my family I got so used to not speaking when spoken to. They only wanted to speak to me, not with me. A response was usually not expected or welcome, so you can imagine how long it has taken me to overcome that and find real people wanting to interact. Maybe this happens to many other people to.

That's a shame, but I'm glad to hear you have seen it for what it was, and that there are people about who do interact with an engaged ear.

Have yourself a good evening.

We live in a big world, even though there are a lot of greedy assholes in it, there are also some really nice ppl! 20 sbd for a couple of beers, make sure it lasts 1 month, and clean those damn clothes with a normal amount of washing liquid! It stinks all the way from your house to mine! Oh wait... that's me :P

A month!? It's possible actually if I timed a supermarket deal and the worst beer available!

Ahh, you are budgeting on washing liquid too. Smell you later!

I'm budgeting everything! I'm even considering shaving my head to have more money to put into cryptos :P The hype is real for the next bull run

Dude I cut mine myself and have done for years!

Salud hombre!!!
Have a great evening and enjoy your beer!!!!
A big hug from the mannequin!

Salut senor @steemitri!

(was it you sending me beer money?!)

It's a super nice gift... I'm a generous mannequin, but it wasn't me.
You deserve it man.
Hasta la vista!

Thank you!

Hasta luego!

Isn't that cool? I am happy that some anonymous person sent it to you, that's just too kind. I see these kinds of things daily lately, and it actually warms my heart. And let's not forget that you deserve it, you are putting so much time and effort here I am glad someone decided to sponsor you a bit !

Today I had a similar situation, I was doing some commenting on posts, and came across this super cool pendant made by a steemit member. Not only does she draw the artwork inside the pendant, but she also draws a girl on another paper, where and then adds the pendant necklace on the paper, so it seems like the girl she drew is wearing the necklace. How nice is that?
I let her know how nice I find her art and pendant,, and guess what? Out of the blue I received a comment that she would like to send me one piece when she is truly happy with the end result. She didn't have to, and I never asked either, but still she offers. Those random acts of kindness are so great!

In fact, I just found inspiration for a new post writing this comment to you..

Enjoy your beers! and what a nice spot to have a drink, damn :)

Thank you @anouk.nox

I think there are many putting in a lot of time and effort here, and I hope that it pays of for all of us in time.

I'm happy to hear your tale from today, that is a very nice gesture from this girl. It's also often the case for me that reading through posts and comments gives me ideas for posts.

Cheers!

@abh12345, truly on average 70 comments per day is reflecting that how much Engagement Levels you producing in Steem Economy and it's really appreciable work too.

And yes, when we receive healthy response then we should develop these conversations because in this way we can create an Environment where more and more people will engage in healthy and organic Commenting.

And i believe that feedbacks and comments are true promotions of particular platform because if people found that people are coming back with great and organic feedbacks then for sure, it will invite more and more users for sure.

And in my opinion that's the power of Steem means, people can send funds with ease and showcase the kind gesture, and 20 SBD is showcasing that kind gesture for sure. And literally speaking Steem Platform changed many lives.

Wishing you an great day and stay blessed. 🙂

Thank you very much for your kind comment @chireerocks :)

Engagement is important for sure, and i think it is why many people choose to stick around.

Have a great week!

Welcome and thank you so much. 🙂

Definitely the anon-steemer must be watching what you are doing here, and I think, you deserve much more than this. It feels great, when you receive something like this as a good-will gesture, and I hope you get more and more like this.

Thank you @sanmi, it was a kind gesture that I really appreciate.
