Editing the Steem Film

in #steem8 years ago (edited)

We are currently editing the Steem film, and I am positive that it will be ready for Steem Fest.

Yours truly and Anastasya Stolyarov

The editor of this film is Anastasya Stolyarov (a.k.a. @film-editor) with whom I have been working for many years on many films. After having studied film at Bezalel University in Jerusalem, she now studies editing at Film School Potsdam-Babelsberg. I am wondering what she still has to study, as she is so good already!

Today, we mostly edited the film's dance scenes - yes, it is (partly) a dance film. I am a big fan of Bollywood movies and I always wanted to make a film where people suddenly start to sing and dance.

No singing here, but it happens that the four protagonists of this film - @mrs.steemit, @soldier, @agent and @sirwinchester - are not only active Steemians, but also great dancers. So it was the most natural thing to let them dance to give this film a special twist.

@soldier and @sirwinchester - ready to be edited

We started to edit the Steem film last week-end. First we made a rough cut: we selected the best takes and put them into the right order. The focus was on the acted scenes in which the four protagonists play small roles to explain the special features of Steem.

We did not touch the dance then, because for that we needed the music to be ready. We only used the narration of Stephanie Murphy (you might know her from the Podcast Let's Talk Bitcoin) as the guideline to define the film's timing.

Julio Kladniew, playing that funky bass

Based on this rough cut, the music is now being composed and produced by Julio Kladniew from Buenos Aires, who has been our main composer for several years. Originally a bass player, he can create the sound of a symphonic orchestra or a big band in his computer. In this case, his composition was based on a provisional track which @sirwinchester chose to create a choreography.

We had to do it this way, as Julio had been travelling, and we needed some music for a choreography to be able to shoot. We had no time to lose, and we were lucky to pick the last sunny and warm day in Germany this year for our shooting on October 4th. Since then the weather has been cold, grey and rainy - it would have been impossible to shoot outdoors.

Today, we edited the dance scenes, which was a lot of fun. Our protagonists dance amazingly well, and our camera lady Liza Gerber captured them from many different angles, so we had plenty of good footage to choose from. The music is not entirely ready, but we had a provisional version which was good enough to do the editing.

Now we are nearly finished. Julio is working on finetuning the music, and as Argentina is five hourse behind, time is on our side. All we need to add tomorrow are some motion graphics: simple text animations in 2D. Then all the material will go to our main animator Tomek Wilk in Warsaw, who will add some more sophisticated 3D animations.

Tomek is also responsible for Captain Drakins' Bitcoin Show. The animations for the Steem film will be less complex, as they will be combined with the live action scenes to make them look more interesting.

After bringing all those different layers together and adjusting the colours of each scene, the final step will be the sound design, mix and mastering.

I am looking forward to showing this film to the Steem community. I hope you will enjoy it as much as we enjoy working on it!

Update: we have finished the editing today. Nastya is currently doing colour correctins.

Now we only need to add some additional 3D animations and do the sound mix and mastering.

This looks interesting guys! I can't wait til I see it @aaronkoenig! How long have you spent on editing this film?

We are not ready yet, will let you know when we are. So far two sessions of maybe 5 hours each.
