MY VESSEL BARS
For today's post, I want to show my Vessel Bars.
Around the #MetalsMafia circle, any silver coin or round or anything at all that bears a ship design is referred to as "vessel coin", or a "vessel so and so". Even trains are sometimes referred to as vessel trains (but that is another inference which we can talk about in another post).
I have two art bars which is part of the Hamilton Mint America The Beautiful Art Bar series. I came across these bars in 2016 and I thought that it would be a perfect bar for my friend. Later on, I found out that the year date of this bar is coincidentally his birth year. I got these with the intention of sending one of the bars to my friend, but never did for one reason or another.
This first one is the 1975 Whaling Ship Art Bar 1 ozt .999 Fine Silver.
This second one is the 1975 Whaling Ship Art Bar 24K Gold Plated 1 ozt .999 Fine Silver .
In addition to the name of the series which is America The Beautiful, 1 troy oz, .999 F.S. 75 mint year and HM for Hamilton Mint, the back of the bar has the inscriptions written within the outline of the US continent: - "WHALING SHIP - At a center of the vortex of sea, salt, and sperm oil, the early American whaling ship glides across the wind-swept oceans of time", which describes the image in the front of the bar.
These bars are serialized and can be found engraved on the edge of a side of the bars. The 24KT EGP silver bar is #0257, while the silver bar is #2114.
These bars are a beautiful depiction of an American industry which dates back to early 1600s.
It is interesting to read in the history of whaling in America that in January 1849, the whaling ship Aurora set sail for San Francisco. By December it will be abandoned by the harbor when the crew heads inland looking for gold!
When I purchased these bars two years ago, they came with a rather high premium. I just don't know if they still do. But regardless of their market price today, these bars are precious and priceless to me because of the circumstance behind my acquiring these silver art bars.

I actually did buy some replica pieces of eight while I was in Puerto Rico but they are NOT silver! (Oh gosh how pretty would they be if they were!? Lol)

Which tour? You mean my SteemIt posts? That's all from last summer. I posted one out of order. But I went back to may (Alberta bear hunt), then Jamaica in june... We got back went to Badlands, Mount Rushmore, Devil's Tower and Cody Wyoming.
Friday I'll post Yellowstone; we were there June 22nd (a week after catching the little tuna in Jamaica). Long way to go, cuz we didn't get back home until August 31st.

It’s cool that you have the silver and the gold plated versions. I’ve seen this advertised on eBay for $97 this week. I picked up mine (the silver one) for only $17.20 two weeks ago at my LCS. Such a bargain.
This (and the others in the series) are such great little pieces of art.

Hello, I don’t know much about the series (like how many there are) but it appears they were only minted 1974-1975.
There are a lot of cool ones, but like you said way too expensive through eBay. In researching I found so many that would be nice to have! 😄
Speaking of silver vessels there is one on eBay that has a cute little fishing ship. 2 of the same bar one is $27 one is $97. Condition, condition, condition. ☺️
Excellent post! I have a few things that remind me of Mr. Vessel and one of them is a choo choo train. It was funny when I went on my white water rafting trip last year, a train went by blowing its horn and Silver Vessel was the first person to come to mind. I automatically started recording the train from the raft yelling choo choo! It doesn't take much to amuse the Bandit... 😊

Check this out, this was the same day and trip. I thought that I was going to drown for real. Keep in mind that my GoPro was mounted on top of my helmet which made it stick up several inches from my head. My point is, when you see the view from the camera barely out if the water, my head was under water lol. It was an interesting ride. I will have to find the choo choo part for you, but I hope you enjoy this. Its only a minute long.

At first I did think I was going to be in trouble, but then I recall a mental picture of the scene prior to my friend getting in to trouble. I remember observing that the rapids were short and then there was calm waters afterwards. This was the only thing that kept me from panicking. It was a short but scary situation, believe me. I will try to find the choo choo footage for you 😊
