In the past two years, Maria Natalia Londa's achievement was stalled. In last year South Eeast Asian Games di Malaysia, the Indonesian female runner could only bring home two silver medals. Earlier, in Olympic Games Rio 2016, she finished in 23rd place in the qualifying round.

In fact, the women who was born in Denpasar, Bali, 29 October 1990 got a lot of great achievements. She graduated from Faculty of Sport and Health Education, Institute of Teacher Training and Education (IKIP) Teachers Association of the Republic of Indonesia (PGRI) Bali. She represented Indonesia at the World Championships in Athletics in 2007 and got gold medalist for long jump at the Incheon Asian Games, four years ago. In the 2015 South Eeast Asian Games in Singapore, she brought home two gold.[1]

She earned bonuses. It was enough to buy a house in Bali for her mother. A white Terios car is also her friend to get around Bali. "Praise to God I can buy them in cash. I don't dare to buy it on credit," she said.[2]

Now her performance undeniably declined because of her knee injury she got in 2016. Her desire to appear in the Olympic Games Rio at that year exacerbated the injury. She had learned much from that experience. After the injury, she became smarter in practice and tried more efficient. "Now the recovery is still running. I hope no more injuries," she said, as quoted in Koran Tempo, 6 July 2018.[3]

She failed to get gold medal from South Eeast Asian Games, but she was optimistic to go forward to 18th Asian Games 2018 in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia, 18 August- 2 September 2018.[4] She was Indonesian mainstay in athletic at the event. It gave her a big motivation.

She knew about her injury but claimed to be physically ready. She said that it was necessary to improve preparation in terms of technical maturation and mental. "The preparation is already 90 percent. Just need to fix the rest, technique and mental, maturation, because when I face the competition, the pressure is greater," she said.[5]

To hone her skill, Maria had attended a training camp in United States, facilitated by Executive Board of Indonesian Athletics Association (Pengurus Besar Persatuan Atletik Seluruh Indonesia). For a month in April, she was trained weekly and attended three competitions in Santa Barbara, California. In a test that took place last February at Gelora Bung Karno athletic track, Jakarta, Maria reached the best record for 6.4 meter.

She knew that her competitors were so great. Athletes from India, China, Japan, and South Korea were her toughest competitors. But she promised to give the best for Indonesia. "I want to jump better than my best achievements and can give the best in front of the public," she said.[6]
