Almost all children in the world learned cycling, including Crismonita Dwi Putri. The twenty-year old cyclist was set to represent Indonesia in the Asian Games 2018 this August.

Crismonita studied in Sekolah Dasar Sapih 3 elementary school in Bromo. She used to go to school on foot. Sometimes she walked for 2 hours to traditional market. All changed when she learned BMX bikes.[1]

Now she pedaled her bike to school. But the girl from Lamongan, East Java, was more than just riding a bicycle to play and going to school. She rode fast like a boy. She even used to compete with boys on the street race.

She was the daughter of Alfius Kustama dan Satyar. Her father saw the potential in his daughter and asked her to practice. "Just practice. I was interested with cycling for long time and finally I was invited to competitions," she said.[2]

Her father was right. She got a number of achievements in cycling at the local level. Until the first grade of junior high school, she still competed in BMX racing. A year later, she moved to mountain bike (MTB) and road race. Her father's friend, Sugeng Trihartono, former national athlete, trained her. She often won in both kind of races but never got a call from Indonesian Bicycle National Training Center (Pemusatan Latihan Nasional/Pelatnas)—the path to become national athlete.

Her career began to be bright when Pelatnas held preparation training for South Eeast Asian Games 2017 at a velodrome in Malang, closed to the Crismonita house. She was training with other national athletes. The couch saw her ability and recruited her. So, in 2017, she officially became an national athlete.

"I have just participated in the training camp for three months before they took me. I felt that my potential and opportunities could be greater on the track race," she said.[3]

Crismonita's decision was not wrong. She performed brilliantly in his international debut in South East Asian Games 2017 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She won a silver medal in the women 500 meter time trial and team sprint women with his partner, Santia Tri Kusuma.

Today Crismonita will become one of Indonesia's mainstays at the 2018 Asian Games. She will compete in bicycle racing track which will be held at the Rawamangun Velodrome, East Jakarta. She hoped to get a medal again. It was not easy off course. "In the SEA Games 2017, only Malaysia is a tough opponent. For Asian Games, there will be Hong Kong, China and Korea," she said. But she remained confident about medal chances.[4]
