Sporting Stuff 002: Modern Football 2018
Football and why we love it!
There was a time where football was magical.
The currency for success for the team game was athleticism chemistry and passion.
The best thing about watching football is that fairy tale endings do exist! Small teams were able to compete with big teams. Back then big teams had a lot of money and were able to hire the best coaches, construct big facilities and stadiums, they'd have the best strategist and nutritionists and the best talent. But that does not stop the little teams from getting in on the action. In sports the biggest outlier was always passion!
In 2016, Leicester City became champions of England. That event was deemed the biggest shocks in football history. Overtaking Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and even Manchester City to win the championship.
(Footnote: It used to be the big four, and now, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are in the mix of top teams after heavily investing financially into their organization.)
This event provides one of the most intriguing David vs Goliath stories that has happened in the history of sports of soccer.
Was it the players?
They were ordinary players, players unrecognized on the international stage.
Was it the fans?
They weren't the teams with the biggest fanbase!
Was it the manager?
They only just got out of relegation and into the Premier League, surely the best managers are in contracts with top teams!
If the whole football organization functioned with passion!
You can smell it!
You can feel it!
As a fan, those were the intangibles you could witness radiating from the team.
This is one of the main reasons why I love watching sports. It 's what makes it so fulfilling, so entertaining.
Because with heart and passion, a little talent and a whole lot of hard work, you too can rise above the current and reach the top of the top!
But in lieu of recent events and changing times, you have to add into another ingredient for success and that's (I hate to admit it.) MONEY.
Financial muscle a blessing and a curse?
Yes this guy, Alexis Sanchez just made a move to my favorite club
Gotta say he's quite the pretty boy, take a look at the article I just posted and you'll notice his salary is a lot prettier than his looks!!
I am not proud that my favorite team has a lot of names on this list. If you haven't read it, I'll save you the time. The list includes 5 people from Manchester United.
This is what the game has evolved to. Extra motivation is needed to spur on the whole organization, nothing beats a Mr Benjamin to boost up your confidence!
It also means that possibly Manchester United has the best players in the premier league based on the wages. Surely a trophy is guaranteed!!
But if history suggests... That may not be the case, It certainly brings you closer but It doesn't win you trophies! What it does is add an insurmountable pressure on the club and the player to deliver.
The good thing is your worth is determined by the money you earn, the bad thing is, your worth is determined by the money you earn.
You win something and they'd say " Yea you paid for that trophy."
You don't win it and people will give you stick!
The nature of football is that the ball is round, and though statistically speaking you can quantify the odds of football but a true fan would know that; you can never be too sure.
So, after all that's said and done, I still think and believe that the organization who is enjoying the most of their football, irrespective of the money splashed, will still be champions. As naive as it may sound, a guy can still dream right, and I'm dreaming/ hoping that it's gonna be my team 😃
Are you also a football fan? Pop a shoutout and the team you're supporting! Maybe we can have some friendly good ol fashion football/ soccer banter! :P

I am hugh MU fans for the past 20 years. I like watch football is because it's very interesting how the manager setup his team tactically so counter opponent team. Every match is different.
Yes, it's a physical chess game albeit 22 grown men chasing a ball , it's still a tactical game haha!
I definitely enjoyed my read. Thanks for sharing
Glad you liked what you saw :)
Cheers buddy
It's the drama. It's the glee. It's knocking them dippers of their perch. It's seeing Citeh fans still cry in comment feeds and wonder when they will finally be accepted as a big and successful clubs.
It's beer, it's endless debates and disputes, it's passion, it's staying up until 4AM to catch the illegal stream to watch the Champions League.
It's telling your colleagues that the next day you will be out of rotation. Drunk and hungover because your team lost the Champions League final, or drunk and hungover because you won. In any event... drunk and hungover you will be.
It's... bigger than life. Second only to death.
I think you'd be the type of guy I'd invite out late at night to watch a kick off with! Spot on! You sir are a true fan! :)
Haha thanks for sharing your point of view through football!!
