I feel like when the human race or a particular group of people undergo a crisis like this, it's to show them the error of their ways. People waste food a lot, what if one day there is not enough food to go around? we take things for granted until they are taken away from us.
Yeah, it's terrible. What you're saying reminds me a piece of news that said Europe disposes of 9 tons of food a year, this is insane and we'll surely pay for it as a species one day. This nonsense won't be gratuitous.
