A thing that annoys me and a reason I think Steemit has issues. (Shitpost push back)

For those that follow me you are well aware of the fact that I put great effort into:

  • Promoting and upvoting my followers and commentors
  • Creating good content
  • going after those that I feel abuse the platform through nefarious farming or voting schemes

To that end my most recent winner in the shitpost diaries was @ryacha21, see the article here:

https://steemit.com/shitpost/@pawsdog/the-shit-post-diaries-1-17-18-4

As he does not create content in the from of articles and instead chooses to abuse the system by creating hundreds of 3 word spam comments and then using leased SP to upvote himself at the last minute; he posed an issue to effectively go after.

My solution as I had some time on my hands last night was just to comment on every single one of his comments to alert other users that he is a "rewards pool farmer" and bad actor in the community. (check his comments here: https://steemit.com/@ryacha21/comments and you will see that I was very proactive in outing him)

Additionally as he is using leased SP to act in a way that is detrimental to the site, I looked as his SteemD.com info to find out whom is leasing to him and kindly alerted each lessor of the situation and the fact that the SP is being used in bad faith.

Granted most, were receptive and did the correct thing and began cancelling his leases, however; @trenz instead chose to -100 percent downvote my comments and courtesy alert to him regarding his SP being used in an abusive fashion by @ryacha21 here:

https://steemit.com/cervantes/@trenz/cervantes-magazine-number-17-desynchronized-news

To say reaching out in courteous fashion to alert a user that their delegated SP is being used irresponsibly only to be downvoted is demotivating is an understatement.

Whats the point? If you do your part to try and help the platform, to alert others of issues and are summarily kicked in the nuts for it; why do it?

It shows such a lack of community and solidarity here, it also shows an extreme lack of diplomacy and networking ability on the part of @trenz.

For the life of me I cannot figure out what the reasoning is behind him using his 58 reputation to downvote my 54 reputation three times at 100% when I am actively trying to help him and the overall health of the site by going after those that choose to abuse our community. It's a bummer, and I'm not sure if it was just plain malice on his behalf or lack of understanding but it makes it hard to stay motivated about helping the community when they punish you for doing so.

Beep!Beep! @shadow3scalpel & listkeeper @chairborne have your six new veterans, retirees and military members on STEEM. We’ll be patrolling by to upvote your posts (because you are on the list) and we'll answer any questions you leave us. Comment by @shadowspub. This is a opt-in bot.

Oh buddy, you’ll love my post, you’re not alone in this, and nothing pisses me off more than Shit Posts that are backed by Whales... they should know it’s shit, they have eyes, anyways there is a lot of people like us, and together we can make a difference and if not, they at least we follow each other and will keep drawing light on the subject... 🤙 Cheers, great post.

https://steemit.com/steemit/@lifeinspired/goodbye-steemit-thank-you-minnows

I resteemed this post by the way. 👊
Upvote too.

thank you for that..

werd... lol I grew up in the ATL during the 90's when that was a thing...

I'm not sure how I missed this, I apologize for not responding to your well written comment. I guess this comment slipped through the cracks but thanks for taking the time to write it and I agree.. I think together we can have a greater impact on keeping the site clean..

No worries! thank you for reading my comment. Also, just followed you, let's keep in touch... we are all stronger together. :) Cheers!

Agreed and it takes quite a bit of work, controversy and getting kicked in the nuts time and time again to make it here. I have been ready to toss in the towel plenty of times, but stated the course worked on networking and it pays slowly but surely... :)

Totally man. Agreed. 🤙

Been there too, the whole downvote scheme some do is irritating at least, and very demotivating.

It should be a hard time limit between downvotes a user could do, and it should require the downvoter to give a reason for the action.
Finally the downvotes should require confirmation by qualified users within a set timeframe or get cancelled.

I disagree. Downvoting can't be more limited than the abuse it's used to counter. Downvoters are already at a disadvantage since there are no curation rewards for that work. If we can't downvote junk at least as fast as it can be created, that's a problem.

If the reason being here is looking for posts you don't personally like and downvote them to tamper your anger against societys then yes, I could very much agree with you.
Adding a couple seconds to the downvote process should not hurt that bad, and if it does you are part of the problem.

I think just the addition of a reason for the downvote would not hinder valid downvotes, but could tamper a lot of the spam votes, and would make a downvote war more cumbersome.

I would feel better giving a downvote if I could add a reason to it. I also would feel better if I got a reason when being downvoted myself.

I agree with most, save the get cancelled, as I may downvote legitimately and forget about it. But there does need to be some type of reform on the process.

The downvoter could get a notice before it is cancelled, where they would need to do another action to keep the downvote active.

That would be a good alternative solution and one that I could be in favor of. .Perhaps even an "are you sure box" or something along those lines.

Sadly this is nothing new. Most of my time spent on SteemIt lately tends to be writing or reading meta-content about the abuse problems on SteemIt.

It honestly feels kind of weird to be using a platform, where my enjoyment of the platform comes from attempting to improve it. I must be a masochist.

I think there's a lot of positive effort going on, and most of the community is keen on cleaning up the abuse. There's a few bad apples who are making things difficult and actively hindering the community that's trying to fix the platform, but I think they're a minority overall. Keep up the good work! I believe that we can fix this if we keep at it.

Perhaps so, but I agree with you in that much of the time spent is trying to fix what is broken.. It's kinda like when a relationship gets to a point that all you do is talk about the relationship and the problems that need addressed but you hang in when you should get the fuck out and go find something better.. I'm going to keep on keeping on and hopefully it all works out in the end. Luckily there are more than a few applications being built on the steem so at least earning some is still useful.. Though I can't wait for wildspark/ synero amp to get cruising.. it interests me as an alternative to steemit perhaps..

I really do hope that people can see Steemit as an actual social media platform and seek out those who attempt to abuse the platform. On the contrary though, I also hope that people don't think that people who post short posts as if you would on Twitter are spammers. Not many like those posts anyway, and especially not whales.

True, and you have to be able to intelligently decide whether something is short or if something is designed simply to abuse the system. You have to look at their voting habits, what they post, the sources etc and come to a reasonable decision..

Hang in...

Thanks.. I'll keep chugging away.. just bummer is all..

what is.. this language..

? English ? Not sure what your asking as you responded in the same language as the original posting so your question strikes me as odd.

i am... just making... a joke...

Now worries.. it went over my head..

Stop spamming my blog ! We can make this an inside joke or something.

I'm not sure if it was just plain malice on his behalf or lack of understanding

I think he didn't understand what you were saying. Maybe if a spanish speaker reads this, he will help you out. Keep giving and you will receive, never stop.

Yeah, I'm "no habla Spanish".. If there is a Spanish speaker that could translate maybe that would help or maybe the dude is just rude.. as he typed his response in English and many that speak Spanish are bilingual.

There will always be shitty people wherever you go. It's the nature of the beast. Even if you have overwhelming faith in humanity, statistically these people are going to exist.

I guess what I suggest is to use your powers for the positive and forget about the negative. It's probably punishment enough just waking up and being themselves every day.

I think sharing your thoughts or having a rational plan for redesigning the community to promote positive values and increase the value of the community are worthwhile pursuits. Flag wars and public shaming have not worked in the past and I don't see that changing.

The problem is that the anarchist principle of self governance put forth by Steemit has issues as it results in many factions pulling in different directions, gridlock and no progress. Add to that that a great many of the most influential and powerful members of the site are also profiteers that earn through bot networks they own that either sell votes or lease SP.. ergo they have little to no incentive to make a positive impact on the greater community so long as the SBD keeps trickling in for them to promote entire bullshit posts or lease their SP to other idiots that will abuse the system.

The self governance only works with a balanced economic design, and I think they've got some of it wrong. It will never be perfect because it's made of imperfect people, but I think it could get better.

Oh I most certainly agree there. I believe the single most detrimental issue affecting Steemit at current is Apathy. Second is an utter unwillingness to let anyone whom is not a part of the "good ol boy network" to enter the decision making process, provide input or even volunteer work or code changes that would improve the place. I think it will likely be STeemit BEta till the end of time. I have seen numerous posts putting forth great idea for change, feature changes, policy changes etc. And everyone is all about it for lie 2 days, then the post gets old and dies.. Then a couple weeks later another will spring up.. fill with ideas then die.. wash rinse repeat.. The one constant is the "action is never taken" nor will it ever be most likely.. sad..

Ah well, there is competition out there and if Steemit can't get its shit together it can become the next myspace while things like Wildspark/Synero Amp become the next FB...

It's a shame Dan and Ned couldn't keep working together a bit better. Steem definitely needs a lot of business and marketing sense that Dan can't offer any project, but it could really benefit from better economic design, which has deteriorated since he left. I don't know as much about Ned as I do about Dan, and I'm a bit concerned about how much stake Ned seems to still control. Originally a lot of that was supposed to be dissipated through account creation, but then they updated and started seeding new accounts with temporarily delegated SP instead of a permanent balance, leaving the centralized Steemit organization sitting on a massive pile of stake indefinitely. I still think Steem is technically pretty far ahead of the competition, but if those large stakeholders become abusive or hold it back it's possible they'll have to be forked out eventually for Steem to reach its potential.

I agree, and why give away actual $$$ an even the playing field of wealth when they can set up a scenario in which the Indian give it on the chance the it increases dramatically in value. We shall see, but I'm certainly ready for a mass update.. I mean changes can be made it just takes someone to do it.. for example https://busy.org.. https://steemit.com/busy/@busy.org/busy-your-next-gen-social-network-platform-based-on-steem-blockchain Granted it is totally useless as it does not pay and all proceeds go to project (to enrich the creators of it) but it shows that we can fork off and do something different..

Lol that shit was funny though .

Whats that? the "shit" that is, that was funny?

Glad you liked it.. :)

Keep on fighting the good fight! Being that there is no one policing them and some people are not acknowledging that there is a rewards rape going on with these shit posters and commenters.

I shall, I shall.. it seems as if the opposing army is somewhat overwhelming.. But I'll keep doing what I do...

Good work, thanks for helping keep the place healthy.

I'm on them everyday as best I can be.. I was a bit concerned about going after @ryacha21 initially as he had 35,000 SP and could of significantly dicked up my post payouts if he went on a flagging mission, but I said the hell with it. Doing the right thing usually pays off in the end, and if I get flagged for doing what needs to be done, it sucks but at least I did not sheep up and turn a blind eye or compromise my values. Thank you so much for the vote.. and I'll stay on it...

I think enough of the Steem stakeholders have the vision and awareness to help make sure doing the right thing pays off in the end, as long as the issue doesn't get missed completely. Let me know if you get any retaliatory abusive downvoting for your work and I can help counter it. I'm sure plenty of other people will also if they can be made aware.

Thanks I appreciate it a ton.. and check my last comment to you.. I'll get there some day. I'm going to keep on keeping on and doing what I do..
