The Challenge.
- 7 black & white images that represent an aspect of your life.
- Present one image every day for 7 days.
- No people.
- No explanation.
- Nominate someone every day. Although anyone can join in.
- Use the tag #sevendaybnwchallenge as one of your five tags.

Oh my goodness this is such a beautiful image. It makes me think of innocence and light in the darkness. I particularly love the water that has been captured on the petals. Fabulous day one pic!!
Thanks so much Johleen. I've taken so many photographs of these white roses, over the past three days. Seeing the light rain on their petals ~ So enchanting. As I was editing, and wondering which one would be the first, this particular image really jumped out.
Over the weekend I'd been looking at 'failure' ~ How it's easy to succumb to the voice that tells you: You are a 'failure.' What it takes to lift out of this state of 'failure.' And all that can be gained by the acceptance of our weaknesses. This image expressed this to me ~ Coupled with the feeling of humbleness: When one can 'recognize their limits' but still embrace one's being with graciousness. Sensing one's 'inner dignity.'

Failure is such an interesting experience to spend time thinking about. It is indeed easy to succumb to that voice, but such is the challenge of life.... don't succumb and instead turn your failure into a beautiful experience of learning, humility and and possibilities for the future. Wonderful. :)

One of the subjects, for I'm not sure which day yet, but possibly Day 7 will be 'unlimited possibilities.' Jumping ahead but most likely related to the virtue of 'Charity' ~ To have unconditional love and kindness towards others as well as yourself. Such generosity of spirit that will open out all wonders of miracles. 💗

The photographs were taken in early morning sunlight, just after some light night rain.
Experimenting with aperture priority and short depth of field. Although the original image was in colour, it was almost black and white to begin with. Then in Lightroom, everything was desaturated except for a touch of green in the leaves and the tinge of yellow in the roses.
I don't have white roses in my garden ~ Yet. On the wish list. I live in a suburb called Roseville that lives true to its name though. These ones are growing as a most spectacular rose border garden close by ~ Must be about 30 rose bushes. 🦋
You live in a place called Roseville? How cool that is! :)
In a street called 'Earl' and close to a golf course, that early in the morning and evening is like having a private manor estate. Life is good ~ Depending on how you look at it. 🦋

Wow :) By accepting it, does it mean that I will have to publish a B&W photo every day for the next 7 days (starting today)?
You can start anytime Daniel. It took me a little over a week before I started ~ Which gave me time to change my original concept to something that's happening currently ie capturing the beauty of white roses ~ And letting them speak to and for me.
I'm attempting to post one image in this series every day ~ Which in itself is a HUGE challenge for me. But I'm sure this requirement can be flexible and you can do whatever fits in with all the other life demands.
I'll be sharing my 3rd image later today and will nominate you. Feel free to join when and how often you can. 🦋

Like a kid in a candy store, I hardly knew where to begin photographing this prolific rose garden, with about 30 rose bushes all flowering at the same time. So I started at one end and worked towards the other. It had been lightly raining the night before, adding that touch of magical raindrops to the petals.
I'd love to nominate you to participate in this '7 Day Black and White Photo Challenge.' Just wondering if you would have the time for it, now that you've started Photography 101 ~ Which looks like a highly supportive project, but one that will take a lot of your attention? 🦋
Sounds like you have an awesome rose garden there! Thanks for thinking about me, but I'll have to pass on something that is a daily requirement because I am also trying to get some of my stock work done. I have fallen behind with my goals since joining Steemit. Lol!
It really is the most awesome rose garden. Woke up early this morning and it had been raining overnight once again. With the heavier rain this time, the roses are starting to droop a little now. I haven't photographed their 'fading' before, so it will be part of this series to do that.
TOTALLY understand the need to focus on your own goals Diane, especially after being away. I've fallen WAY behind in keeping my own website blog up to date too ~ Which reminds me. It's on the 'must do' list now. 🦋

Thanks so much Melinda. The garden where I photographed these white roses is where I picked the most perfect roses for my rose assemblages ~ Like the one on my cover image. I actually asked the owner's permission as they obviously take a lot of pride in looking after these roses ~ Mulching and pruning them right back in winter so that now they are flowering 'en masse' like no other roses I've ever seen before. 🦋

It's not obligatory ~ And there is no starting date. And it can be kept pretty simple ~ Just one b&w image for 7 days ~ Not necessarily consecutive days either.
The idea is that the images relate to some aspect of you and/or your life. I'm using my images to explore the 'Seven Heavenly Virtues' ~ An idea that just came today, on my second day.
I always find it interesting what comes to us when we accept a 'challenge' like this, so I hope you'll get something out of it too, should you decide to join it. 🦋

It's such a new 'challenge' Melinda and I've adapted it to meet my own approach in how I like to present my work here at Steemit.
Ideally no words are needed as the image needs to say it all ~ Whereas I'm interweaving quotes and my short 'poems' with my image ~ To give an impression of an aspect of my life or life in general without spelling it out completely, so the viewer is free to come up with their own 'story.'
Strictly speaking my images are not 'black and white' either because at the moment I'm working on selected colour with black and white.
And I've also seen people posting their images without nominating anyone. So if you like the idea of presenting b&w images that convey something about you and your life ~ Please feel free to do so, without nominating anyone. I'm sure Johleen won't mind in the least. 😊
Ive seen this same challenge on Facebook and have been trying to stay out of sight for it there. I'd be happy to post a b&w photo every day.Thanks!

The original idea for this 'challenge' on Steemit came when Johleen was nominated to do it on Facebook. Only she preferred to do it here.
I've done similar challenges on Facebook and it took so much energy to keep up with everyone's postings. Met some wonderful artists along the way, and although we can never say 'never', I doubt very much I'll do anything like that again. 😊
I posted one...hope the way I stated my 'rules' is ok! I feel like I am giving my work away and wasting it on FB...plus I have had friends copy and save my photos and then post them years later wirhout even remembering that they are mine. Its rather hurtful.

Strange things happen on FB ~ Not nice for 'friends' to take your work without acknowledging authorship.
The only value I see in FB is to use it to share what I post here ~ And at Tumblr ~ So that people at FB can still see any of my new work as well as what is happening here at Steemit.
As soon as I started Tumblr (and later IG), I stopped sharing my images directly to FB. (FB has © of anything you post directly to FB.) That was four years ago now. Just received the b'day notice from Tumblr. 😊

So pleased you like this image Isabel. I was thinking of something totally new for this 'challenge' but it's an idea for another time as it still needs more preparation. But then as I was photographing these roses yesterday I had the notion of 'saying it with roses' to illustrate aspects of my life or more my thinking of how I am and how I would like to be in my life.
I really look forward to seeing how you interprete this challenge now too. 🦋

No, there's no deadline or really hard and fast rules for that matter. Which is one of the reasons I really like it. YES. Wait till you are in the space, where you can breath and allow whatever flows from there to come. And it will be meaningful for both you and others.
I'm setting myself the task to post one image a day ~ But if I don't ~ So be it. 🦋
