Unrestricted Internet in Bangladesh
Freedom is so important for human and animal life.From ancient period,people fighting for Freedom.If there are no freedom than there are no life.Freedom is somthing that give you the opportunity to decide what you want,do what you want to do,free to speak,go where you want to go etc.
At present we are living in a world of Internet.We can't imagine a life without Internet.Internet help us to transfer information one place to another place in a second.We can easily connect with people from one side of world to another side of world.We can talk with them face to face by the help of "Video chatting".Internet playing a dominant role in all the activities of our life.
We know that in many countries there are restriction in accessing internet.People not able to access some website or apps.Government blocked those website or apps in there country.It can be good or bad.If banning of those website or apps bring good result for the country than it is not bad step by the authority.But if those blocking aims to restrict the freedom of choice and freedom of speech of citizen than it is the matter of criticism.Authority deprived the citizen from their rights.
It is true that restriction of internet can be done for the welfare of the citizen.It can be for the welfare of the state.So restriction of internet has both good and bad site and consequence.
Internet in Bangladesh
I am from Bangladesh.Bangladesh is a small country in Asia continent.Now i will talk about whether internet in Bangladesh restricted or not.
Bangladesh started using Internet in June 1996.The Internet in Bangladesh has witnessed significant growth although facing many constraints in expanding Internet access and use.People were not aware of what is internet and how to use it.But after a long time,at present 4 out of 5 people know what is internet.According to Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission,the total number of Internet Subscribers in Bangladesh has reached 91.421 Million at the end of January,2019.
Unrestricted Internet in Bangladesh
If i talk about internet restriction in Bangladesh than there is not so many restrictions.People is free to access any website.They can easily access Facebook,Twitter,Steemit,Google etc.But there are several act which direct the people what to do and what not to do.The government of Bangladesh had passed Bangladesh Telecommunications Act of 2001.Which is the official regulatory body overseeing telecommunication and related ICT issues in the country.
Government takes lots of initiative to make internet available and accessible for all the citizens of Bangladesh.
The government’s 2009 “Digital Bangladesh by 2021” program seeks to integrate internet access with development efforts in national priority areas,such as education,healthcare,and agriculture.
In 2016, 4547 Union Digital Centers had been established by the government to provide low-cost internet access and related e-services in low-income communities.
Bangladesh government trying hard to improve internet facility in the country.At present the price of Broadband internet in a lower price and people getting the facility.
Internet Restrictions in Bangladesh
Although the internet of Bangladesh is unrestricted but there are some restrictions also which aims for the welfare of the state and citizens.Those restriction are as follows :
People not able to access Porn site.
During public examination government block Facebook,Twitter and some messaging apps.
BTRC blocked some native website for some reason.
During the Election in Bangladesh l,the internet speed was decreased in 2G in 30 December 2018.
The government has occasionally restricted access to social media and communication platforms.
My Opinion
Free internet is our rights.If state deprived us from this rights by imposing restriction than it is matter of sorrow.I will support any restrictions which is welfare for the state and citizen.For example,Government of Bangladesh ban Porn website which is a very good initiative.Watching porn is harmful and impacting on health of many young.Government also restricted access to social media and communication platforms ocasionally which is also good.Because this restriction is for protecting "Question Leak" of Public examination.
In conclusion,i want to say that in Bangladesh there are no restriction in internet and people is free to access internet.Although there are small amount of restriction but those are for the welfare of the citizen and state.
