The Wonders Of Space - Jupiter's North Pole Is A Huge Cyclone

in #science7 years ago
One of the most amazing things to come out of the current on-going Juno mission to Jupiter are the first ever images obtained of the planets north and south poles.

The stunning, computer generated, infrared image above shows the huge cyclone at Jupiter's north pole. The central cyclone is about 4000 km (2500 miles) in diameter. Eight other smaller cyclones surround the central one. Wind speeds reaching up to 350 km (220 mph) have been recorded

The yellow colours in the image are clouds at a temperature of about -13 degrees Celsius (9 degrees Fahrenheit) while the dark red colours are clouds at -118 degrees Celsius (-181 degrees Fahrenheit)
