Hello Everyone,

Another one again in "Sankofa Creative Competition"

Here today I will be talking about a yoruba proverb which says :-

Proverb............. (Ejawo ninu apon tio yo, elogbomi'ila kana).
Interpretation................. (stop the old and try something new).

The main use of this proverb is to advice one who has been trying something in a way to try it another way round.

The proverb above is initially use in yoruba land to advice someone probably going astray. It's a kind of proverb our elders in

yoruba land do use whenever they see a friend, a child or anybody going wrong about something .

It's a kind of proverb useful in all aspect or areas of life. For Instance..... A young man who studied medicine in school and

all his life he has aspired to become a Medical Doctor, On the long run, he finished his education in the university with

a first class result, though he was from a poor family and due to his family's status he wasn't able to get the best of job he

wished to have, But he was able to secure a job in a pharmacy where he was earning a peanut as a salary, A money that's not

even enough for him to feed himself for a whole month. he kept on working in the pharmacy until he wasn't able to pay some

huge debts he has on himself. Then his father ( A yoruba man) called him to order and told him a proverb.....

"lo jawo ninu apon tio yo, elogbomi'ila kana" and he asked his father "Dad what do you mean

by that?" and his father said to him ...My son you have really tried and I can see that but the truth is, this is not working out for

you...You are not getting any younger anymore. I guess it's the right time for you to stop this work you are doing ,

"stop the old work and try something new. Not all who desire to become a Doctor are

destined to be.....Please son get a new job!
