Introducing My Sailing Boat: Muendo
Hi Steemers, I thought is it about high time I introduced you to my sailing boat, Muendo.
Muendo is a steel 40 foot (12.2 m) long, cutter rigged (meaning two head sails) classic sailing boat. She (a sailing boat is always a 'she') has a beam of less than 3 meters, so she is very narrow, and is not as spacious as some of the other 40 foot boats might be.
I have completely restored her after rescueing her from becoming a wreck years ago, and I spent a lot of years and a bit of money to restore her completely. A complete new interior was built and she was sandblasted, epoxy faired, and received a proper coat of paint after that. The restoration is another long story, perhaps for another time.
I fitted her with solar panels, a water maker, self steering and many other gadgets that are needed to sail the boat short-handedly for longer periods.
I sailed her from the Netherlands, through the canals in France, out in the Mediterranean, onto Italy. She is currently docked (on the dry) on the island of Procida in Italy, close to Naples, next to the island of Ischia. That journey is perhaps another 'Muendo' story to share on Steemit at a later stage. Going through the canals with lots of bridges means that the mast had to be put down: here she is in the middle of Paris, France:
Both restoring and sailing her has been an absolute joy. Now unfortunately, I'm based in South Africa, and Italy is just too far to keep up with some of the maintenance. I thought about shipping her on a container ship, but for the same amount of money I can buy a new boat. It is just impossible to go to Italy (even though I love Italy!) regularly in order to sail her, so now I am thinking about selling here, although that is a hard thing to do.

Yes, good point, that is one of the options.... Unfortunately that would take a lot of time that we don't have at the moment....
