Go to a site like instagram, search for ‘#coffeeporn’, and you will see a wide collection of latte art, shiny coffee machines, cups, speciality coffees, close-ups of beans, and many other images related to coffee (perhaps it’s better you don’t do this at work), there are over a million of them.

It looks like there are hundreds of thousands of baristas out there, all searching for images of the perfect cup of espresso or cappuccino.

Cappuccino is literally translated as ‘Capuchin’, because the    colour resembles that of a monk’s dress. “-ino” is ‘small’ in Italian, as in ‘telefonino’



No drink in the world is photographed so frequently. Coffee is sexy. Coffee is porn (but without the… you know what I mean).

The so-called naked extraction is the purest form of coffee art, and is achieved by using a so-called bottomless portafilter. These images show the brown creamy coffee splendour from the bottom of the portafilter subtly flowing into a cup.

If you want to replicate this at home, you will need a good espresso machines though. If you have a cheaper machine, often the temperature and pressure are less stable and you will not get the same effect. You also need the bottomless portafilter. You will need a very good grinder, very important, as a fine and even grind will improve your coffee; it’s important to set the fineness of the grind so that you will get around 20 ml of coffee in about 25 seconds.

Then you need freshly (not too dark) roasted (definitely not older than 2 months), good quality arabica beans. Then you need good water, properly filtered, you need to press the coffee in the filter just right, it needs to be even to make sure you don’t have ‘channels’ where the water can run though quickly.

And if you do this all correctly, there you have it: your perfect, tasty, sexy cup of espresso.

as a good Italian I am a coffee lover and I must tell you that one of the best ingredients is water ... as it happens in Naples, where 80% of the bars serve excellent coffee. lol

Not older than 2 months? If you want fresh like in a 'real' cafe, not older than 2 days. I have an older machine and it does not have the higher pressures that I'd like, so it sits.
I just do pour overs now. Sometimes I use an Aeropress..

Yes, the fresher the better, I just wanted to say that Supermarket coffee beans are not good enough, as it normally has been roasted a long time ago. I sometimes use my Vacuum Pot if i want a 'normal' coffee.
