[MARATHON BLOG 16] Nike+ Run Club App, The Importance of Music, and this Weekend's Long Run Plan.

Ever since fellow runner and fellow Steemian @musingsltd gifted me a nice smart phone holder/arm band for my runs, the whole experience has been enhanced remarkably.

I use the Nike+ Run Club App which tracks my distance and other health stats, notifies me at mile markers, and synchs with my Apple music library to keep the jams flowin' the whole time.

At first I was worried I would just run to the beat of each song, and find my pace all messed up. This hasn't been the case at all, really. Though the faster, high-energy songs do tend to get me truckin' a little harder, my breathing and pace seem to regulate themselves pretty well.

Running with music really keeps things interesting for me, and I find myself really focusing and getting into the music. It's almost like a drug. Or like Murakami says, in his book WHAT I TALK ABOUT WHEN I TALK ABOUT RUNNING, it's my own private little void. I can totally disappear and feel the rhythm of the steps, my body and my breathing, and the sea of loud sounds in my earphones envelop me in a little place of nothingness. Just my thoughts coming and going, with no real attachment.

Today's Run:

Distance: 5.66 miles
Theme Songs: "まいご" - Joe Hisashi / 井上あずみ (Tonari no Totoro soundtrack)

Good day!

When I used to be into running, be it outside or on the treadmill, I couldn't get into the session or stick with it when i didn't have my headphones with me.

Lets face it, there are moments during the activity where you aren't feeling motivated to continue, thinking about what you are eating soon etc. Tunes help keep the focus for sure.

You have quite a sing-along soundtrack, I used to run to deep house and tunnel trance :D

Excellent points and....house! I hadn't even thought of that.

Thanks! Yes, running and repetitive beats work for me. Give it a go and see if there's more focus and time on the move :)

It makes all the difference, doesn't it? Glad it's working out!

Not too shabby a place list, either :)

Really does man. You saved my ass bruvva!

Nice post @kafkanarchy84 sir, i also love running and it's nice to see that you are also running regularly and the great thing is you are enjoying doing this, i think the single most important thing to remember is that we can all run. We instinctively knew how to run as children, and despite spending our adult lives in front of the computer or telly eating carbs, we are able to increase our stride in cases of emergency. There is no 'I can't run.' If we have functional legs and lungs, we can run. thanks for sharing

Not much of a runner myself but I assume this thing also works for walking. I always walk with my music on, then again I listen to music almost the whole day ^^ U have a great taste btw ;)

Thanks. Takes great taste to know great taste ;)
