Lake Superior Rocks & Gems - My Wife Doesn't Believe I Found This One

in #rocks8 years ago

This agate has so much character for such a little guy. I was taking pictures of this tonight and my wife walked by and swore up and down that there was no way I found it. It just looks too perfect and she thought I bought it somewhere.

I gave her this look. You know, that look like "Do you really think I'd go out and buy an agate when we live in agate central?"

I can't believe how much detail it has. I hope you enjoy it!

Lights Off

It was not easy getting this one to glow. If you look closely, you can see where it's glowing but my presentation shot isn't doing the trick. This is when I put a strong light underneath it. Mind you, in this shot, there is a light underneath and it's actually shining through. This one is thick

Jewelers Loupe 40X25 mm - Lights Off

While there's a lot of detail in this agate, this was the only Jewelers Loupe shot that was worth using. The real detail in this agate is when the lights are on.

No Shine

I needed to show you three sides of this rock so that you can see the level of detail. Amazing. It is so perfect, in my opinion, that I am not surprised that my wife thought I didn't find it. It almost looks machine made.

Shine

I'm starting to like the shiny series of my posts my lately. I mean, just look at this thing. It screams at you once you add shine. In my case, as I've stated, I simply dab a q-tip in oil and wipe it on the rock. It's pretty mess free, and allows me to showcase the real beauty of my agates without waiting 3 months to tumble.

How Big is it?

Interestingly, the settings listed in the table above are more or less the same settings I used whether the lights were off or on.

I wonder why that is? I'm going to need to pay closer attention to the settings. Of course, the picture with the flashlight has lower settings, but I believe that was just ISO of 100 instead of 800. I'm having a lot of fun learning how to use this camera manually, but today I was trying to take a picture outside and I forgot about lighting. Since the camera was already set for taking rock pictures indoors, I got poor quality.

Fun Fact: There are 13 pictures in this post! I took over 200 pictures of the same rock to bring you the best quality!

I share my rock and agate photo's exclusive with the Steemit community! Feel free to share your thoughts!

Thanks for stopping by! God Bless!

That sure is a beauty. The colors are unreal, no wonder she had doubts. Lol great find brother keep it up.

Thanks! They really are. Just taking pictures of my rocks makes me want to go find more. Especially since the sun is out and the skies are blue...but I have subzero temps outside so all I got is a case of cabin fever.

That's rough man. How far do you have to travel to your hunting spot anyways?

It's an 8 mile drive to my favorite spot (15 min) , 17 miles (27 min) to my 2nd favorite spot and 18 miles (27 min) to my 3rd favorite spot. There's quite a few others, but it's all pretty close. The fact that it's that close makes it that much worse.

Neat that you don't have to travel far when the weather warms up. My favorite spot to prospect for gold is about 30 minutes away. The lake where I find the Jasper is about an hour and a half away, so I get there all too often... I can't stand the cold. I'd cut the bottom of a tent off and bring a portable propane heater. That would be a bit dangerous without the windows open but might be feasable lol.

haha nice, yeah we have our ways of keeping warm. I've been living here since 2009 and to have the proper equipment can be very pricey. It's hardly worth being out in subzero temps though!

It's good that you don't have to go very far either. There are gravel pits that are about 2-3 hours away that I would like to visit, but money and time seem to always be an issue

Maybe in a year or so steemit will help fund our rockhounding missions. Lol

Lots of detail in this one! Nice!! I was reading some of the other posts...cool that you live so close to where you hunt!

It truly feels like paradise to me! My wife gets sick of the cold weather. She's been here all her life. I love the seasons and the area, and would hate to leave, but she wants to move away some day.

Hopefully I can have a summer / winter home up here to come visit whenever I want if we move. I appreciate your comment!
