ADSactly Tech News: The ANYmal is a Robot That Really Moves!
Hello Steemians! In this issue of ADSactly Tech we're going to give you a close look at a really remarkable robot. Before we begin let us just ask you a quick question. Can you believe how far robots have come in this decade alone?! They used to be a thing of sci-fi and had no place in the world other than the odd factory here or there. Now they are being used for all sorts of things and a team in Zurich has recently come as far as to make one that can summon lifts and use them to travel to distant floors of office buildings! We learned about this new development from an article published in The Verge entitled 'I could watch this well-organized robot summon an elevator all day.' A few interesting points were made in this article that I would like to comment on... The robot in this video is the Anymal, a quadruped bot built by ETH Zurich. (It looks similar to some of Boston Dynamic’s creations, but that’s just because four legs is a good model for building stable robots. Even when they break down, they’re still left standing up.) The video above is just a tiny update on the bot’s progress, but it’s been under development for more than a year now, with ETH hoping it will one day be used for tasks like search and rescue. And although, yes, it seems odd to laud a 12-second video, creating robots that can navigate indoor spaces is pretty essential. We shouldn’t have to build an entirely new infrastructure for future robots doing things like making deliveries in buildings, or helping the elderly. They should adapt to our environments, not the other way round. The potential for robotics applications in regard to navigating indoor spaces is huge and the company that wins this race may present an opportunity like amazon has done for online shopping. Be ready to put your money on the line folks! The first thing I thought when I watched the video was that this new robot looked extremely similar to one I had seen developed by Boston Dynamics. I believe the army has had access to a similar model of robot for quite some time now. Apparently getting robots to walk and balance themselves is a lot harder than we would normally think. It seems there are so many potential applications for robots in areas that humanity can benefit from that this persuit and has potential to solve many of the problems we face in the modern world. With this perspective we should certainly give robotics developers the benefit of the doubt while keeping a watchful eye as many companies will most likely decide to take another route in developing robots and robotic components for the military industrial complex. Anymal has no problem using an articulated arm to turn a handle, push a door open and walk through. A human standing nearby shoves it around a bit, but it doesn't complain and makes it through the task just fine. Anymal can also move around while holding a glass of water and not spill a drop. It can help a human lift and move a box. Who's a good robot? Yes you are... Yes you are... Anymal is the perfect robotic companion. Here's a video of this robot doing its thing!

According to further research Robotic Systems Lab, a company working in conjunction to develop the ANYmal uses a video to demonstrate a system called ALMA, which stands for Articulated Locomotion and Manipulation.
"The torque controllability of the whole system enables the implementation of compliant behavior, allowing a user to safely interact with the robot in a very natural way," the lab says.

We are destroying the world , Killing animals , plants and humans , and then replace them with artificial ones , very stupid mentality, the money and technology should be used to preserve, educate , protect , cure and value ourselves and what we have. Everything I see here is already given to us by nature. I see no point to this.
thank god man is trying to play God and create all these robotic animals. in a technological sense its fascinating and awesome but we are screwing up the world so much with pollution, chemtrails, invasion of habitat, over farming and hunting, genetic manipulations , poisons like glyphosate...etc, etc, ...soon we will not have pollinators, the food chain will irretrievable contaminated and altered, species will continue to die out to extinction and the gene pool will suffer for plants and animals. the brave new world we are creating will only have robot animals other than the ones we cruelly exploit for food. please promote, support and buy organic, pastured, free range because it will save our health and our planet.
I'm not interested in living in a world made up of robots instead of nature. I noticed there is no mention of the bird models I've seen flying around. They look exactly like the real thing but do not fly the same way, which is how you can spot them.
Basically almost every human is against these robots. We all have that nasty feeling that's telling us that this will turn against us, whether controlled by a human, or by itself. Yet we aren't doing anything to prevent it. They're making huge advancements in self taught AI, and robotics... Are we really going to let this continue until there's no point of return? Please, either they don't become fully intelligent, or they don't get a physical body. But if you mix both, we all know it'll be one of the worst ideas we'll ever have as a specie.

ANYmal seem to be a very great robot, with its special features, I'm indeed in a hurry to get it and feel it's taste but come to think of it, everything that has an advantage also has a disadvantage, I've watched films whereby a robot seems to turn away from its maker and act disastrous.

ANYmal looks very funny and what this robot can do is amazing, it will certainly help the creators to get the most out of traditional robot hardware, but if you ask a person or robot to do this or that job, the answer is most likely lies in the differences between people and machines. Now, even the most advanced of the machines operate on certain algorithms that have been pre-programmed in the program (even if they are very complex). They have no free will, freedom of choice, desires and impulses, nothing that determines the creative component of a person. A robot can do a job of great complexity and accuracy; it can do this job in conditions in which a person would not live an hour. However, he will not be able to write a book or a screenplay for a new film, create a painting canvas, unless a man previously laid it in his memory. Therefore, the creative profession, where the important non-standard, non-pattern thinking, of course, remain for people. A robot may be a welder, a loader, a painter, even an astronaut, but he cannot become (at least at the present stage of development) a writer, a poet or an artist.

I have always heard about robot since when I was a little kid so I usually use to imagine what really or how does a robot will look like and I will begin to ask myself some questions like is a robot a human being like us or is it a natural machine or different questions like that always comes o my mind before I grew up to know a lot much about robot. People have their different opinion about robot. Some preferred robot while others dislike robot. Some preferred human being or should I say nature than robot but anyhow, robot has really aid and help human work and reduce the load on some aspect of human work also. I will still hope to create a robot when I grew up much more or have acquire much more knowledge about robot
As always, interesting and innovative material, @techblogger. Every time I see or read about how far we have come in the invention of robot, I can not help but think 2001 Odyssey into space. I think there will come a time when these machines will coexist peacefully with humans. Although we have already been alerted to the dangers of artificial intelligence, I am optimistic and believe that there will be more positive things brought about by these new advances. Sometimes overconfidence about the capabilities of machines can be a point against the human itself. Remember that the machine exists because there is a human brain behind the invention. Let it never happen with Stanley Kubrick's film, in which supercomputer HAL 9000 seeks to dominate and control man. Greetings to you and the @adsactly team.
