Imbolc - The Time Of Awakening
Winter gave us the opportunity to connect with our inner wisdom as we travelled inwards and focused more on our deeper self and our life's experiences. We mirror the cycle of nature, as the energy of the land travelled back into the earth. By following that example we had the opportunity to really explore what it is we wish to bring forth into this new year.
Imbolc invites us to plant those seeds that we nurtured over the winter months. Now is the time to bring them out into the light, as we connect with our intuitive self and begin to manifest our dreams.
When we go outside we can see and feel the earth stirring. The first buds are forming on the trees, as the sap is rising. Everything is reawakening and we are being inspired to become more active, more expressive.
In Ireland, Imbolc is also know as Brigid's day. Brigid is the goddess of fertility and birth, she inspires us to give birth to our new ideas, to our dreams. She represents the fire, the spark of life, inviting us to tap into our creative power.
Each year it was traditional for each family to make a goddess eye which you would hang in your home. inviting Brigid to look over you as well as inviting her creative energy into your home. As Brigid is the goddess of birth, I like to make the goddess eye as a gift for pregnant women . Each eye would measure 10cm's from one point to the next, representing the size that the woman’s Yoni needs to open in order to birth her baby. Giving her a visual aid to use during their birth.
All of the ancient festivals were taken by Christianity in an attempt to get people to convert, but always in a way which was very disrespectful towards women.
Nature's natural cycle is one of birth, death and rebirth, represented by the Triple Goddess, maiden, mother and Crone. As we begin to leave winter behind us, we take the first steps into our rebirth. Re birthing ourselves anew, preparing for the changes that will come. To bring forth all that we have nurtured in the winter and to express ourselves now through our words and our actions.
Imbolc calls on us to embrace our creativity, to find ways in which we can heal ourselves and one another. Now is the time to listen to ourselves, to trust our intuition and create a balance between this our wild self and the rational self. We need to focus on ways in which we can bring about change in a world where so many are being dominated. Imbolc is about empowering ourselves. Reclaiming the wisdom of our ancestors, so that we can create new ways in which to move forward.
Imbolc is all about that fire, that stirring that is happening within ourselves and within nature. It is that spark that calls on us to become more active. Now is the time to embrace that fire that burns within us all ,that fire than can transform and energize.
On this day of awakening, make a pledge to listen more to your intuitive self. The inner voice that you have, that gut feeling that we get but so often ignore. Now is the time to stop doubting yourself, as that is what destroys our intuition. Change must always start with self, let go of your fears and superstitions, embrace the person that you are and the potential that you have.
Nice to read about the old ways in one part of the world.
It's hard to relate in the equatorial part of the world where seeds always germinate, and the seasons are less defined.
I've heard many versions of the Goddess Eye's origins across several cultures. :) Nice idea to give it to a birthing woman.... :)

thank you, we are all connected, but yes I imagine it is hard when you do not have clear seasons to tap into. I guess it is about finding your own natural rhythm over there xxx
We DO have very clear seasons... 3 of them... just different. The rhythm.& wheel.of the year different everywhere. 😊
that is very true xxxxx
beautifully written :)
The fact that I had surgery a few weeks ago came in the best time, as I am regenerating with the Imbolc, I'm becoming myself again in this season!
thanks so much and yes now is the time for rebirth and regeneration xx
Now that was a really profound sentence - I never really thought of it like that but it really does make sense that we kinda go inward a bit, particularly with the shorter days causing us to be really reflective, rebuild and come back to life again with spring edging nearer!
I'm sure you have some great stuff coming up for us all too 😀
there are natural cycles all around us, when we ignore them we tend to make up our own but they can be more destructive, it is best to look to the natural world xxxx Thanks Nick xx
It’s not spring on this side of the world.... but happy Imbolc to all you northerners!

thanks so much for the support xxx
So often these days I find myself called to resources that support the feminine rising. There is so much nuance to this new knowledge that is being teased out and separated from that which buried it for so long. Thank you for providing new threads to follow - Brigid, The Goddess Eye, and The Triple Goddess. 🌱
thanks @bia.birch, there is so much misleading information afloat, I have learnt a long time ago to trust my instinct when it comes to believing anything, we do instinctively know the difference xxx
I was once offered a blessing by a very wise woman. She wished me, sure knowledge of my own wisdom. May we all believe our own intuition 🌱
I read about the celtic myths and gods of Ireland nearly 20 years ago and had forgotten all about it if I'm honest. Thanks for the reminder, and as my ancestry is 50% Irish (apparently I'm descended from the princes of Cork), this post is especially interesting to me.
There is some type of syncronisity going on here as I've been working on a cascade poem which I plan on publishing on steem over the next 6 days which acts like a journey from Birth to death and beyond.
This post has provided some extra inspiration as only 4 out of the 6 poems are finished, it's funny how inspiration works.
Ha ha, sry for plugging my poem ;-)

I'm glad you brought up the sexism in how pagan archetypes have been embraced by Christianity, especially considering times were rough for women in pagan times even WITH strong female archetypes.
I love the idea of a spark within a seed, prompting and energizing it's early growth.
