5 ways to maintain trust in a distance relationship

Do you trust me? How would you react if your spouse ask you a question like this? What if this question
was asked of you not face to face but over the phone? This is a seemingly easy question to answer as it
requires just a yes or no answer but yet its answer is the determining factor of whether a relationship
will last or not. Cultivating trust for one’s spouse might be quite easy especially when you get to see
each other day after day, but the same cannot be said of in a distant relationship, because such
relationship would require absolute trust and developing such trust for someone you rarely see requires
more. So if you find yourself in a distant relationship whether planned or sudden how can you manage
the situation so as not to be overly worked up over nothing? Let’s consider 5 ways you can maintain
trust in a distant relationship.

1. Communicating frequently. I don’t think I will be able to spell this out well enough, IT IS
   A MUST, its non-negotiable, it should be a ritual like praying to God, Communicate without
   season. This kind of communication is not just talking, but heartfelt discussion, let your spouse
   feel that you would rather be with them than anywhere else if opportunity would allow it,
   discuss about your day, the challenges and good time you had, seek your spouse opinion in
   nearly everything you are doing. Take for example when leaving for work in the morning, call
   him or her up, ask what colour of shirt he/she thinks will go well with the jean you plan wearing
   and if they choose, wear, snap and send and don’t forget to say thank you.

2. Settle dispute promptly. In distant relationship you don’t have the luxury of keeping
   malice for a day, even an hour is too long…!!! If you are currently in a distant relationship, how
   do you feel when you are quarrelling? What kind of thoughts run through your head while this
   quarrel last? Is that the kind of thought that should be made to last in your mind for a very long
   time? Then think about your spouse just know that he/her is also having that thought, and if
   allowed to persist, the feeling of loneliness sets in, you start realizing how far he or she is from
   you, that’s when you start losing it. So be swift, if it’s your fault apologize, if not forgive. Never
   and I mean NEVER GO TO BED ANGRY AT YOUR SPOUSE, otherwise your bad dream might just
   become a reality.

1. Be spontaneous. Don’t tell me you can’t surprise her because she is faraway, that’s not
   acceptable…!!! If ants can build a mold that can house other animals bigger than it self then
   surprising her should be like good morning. Pull crazy stunts (be sure your spouse will like it). Do
   things she least expect but that shows you are thinking of her, make every day you are away
   worth the wait. When was the last time you called the shop seller close to your spouse and
   asked them to deliver a gift to him/her? If you receive a gift like that unexpected, I am very sure
   you will treasure it and that’s just how your spouse will feel.

2. Suspicious relationships. Please stay away from it, if your spouse complains about your
   relationship with an opposite sex in your location away from him/her, terminate such
   relationship, don’t make him/her uncomfortable, you might not have any sexual relationship
   with him/her but for the sake of peace please make the person you promise to love happy. You
   don’t need to think twice about it, if your spouse is not comfortable with it, END IT…!!!

3. Visit..! Visit..!! Visit..!!! Even if it’s a 1 day holiday visit. That alone will stress how much
   you miss him/her, don’t create excuses instead eliminate them.
