Random Japan #69 :: Painful car!

in #randomjapan6 years ago

Hello, all you fine, amazing, and loyal readers! Welcome to another edition of the one and only Random Japan, your simply sensational not to mention radically random look into the plain and ordinary in the land of painful cars (more on this later).

Today—well, painful cars! Sound interesting? I hope so! Let’s get started. Let’s enter into…

Random Japan!!

You can do it!
You can do it!

An encouraging car, I suppose, for some. Cars with colorful anime characters painted all over them are relatively common to see in Japan, even in smaller cities like Okazaki. They are known generally as itasha—literally painful car. Painful to look at, that is. Being a geek and sharing that love with the world may have gone mainstream in the West, but it is still looked down upon here.

Yes sir, in Japan saxes grow just like trees. Swear!

Lets Go! Anpanman!
Let’s Go! Anpanman!

Anpanman may be the single most popular character in this country. There are many others, of course, but anpanman obsession by everyone younger than 10 is just something else. The theme song is pretty catchy (but I may only think that because I hear it many times a day as one of my kids watches the TV show or play with a toy that plays the song)

Funny Wall

は is pronounced “ha”. Funny wall ha ha ha ha, get it? Sorry, my kids are young; my dad joke skills are still simple. This is just a storage shed. Storage sheds are very common things to see around here. With such small houses, people need somewhere to put all their crap.

Another storage shed. Told you they were common. This one not as funny as the last.

I came across these guys near one of the major rivers in town. Treasure!

I think that car is pretty cool also! My daughter and her boyfriend have seen almost every ghibli movie on the big screen in a Dallas movie theator and her boyfriend has sleeve tatto's of anime on both arms. One arm is based on "Spirited Away" and I can't remember what the other arm is. Anyway, my daughter would probably love to have that car!

I loved reading this issue of random Japan! The car is awesome by the way, I don't know what they're talking about :D
