Random Japan #64 :: A Random Walk pt 2

in #randomjapan6 years ago (edited)

Hello, you wonderful and amazing humans, and welcome to another Random Japan, your favorite look at all the random things the guidebooks and websites don’t cover.

Today, another photowalk! Yay!

Ready to see what I found? Good. Let’s jump straight in. Let’s enter into…

Random Japan!

The holy guy himself, just chilling out in a garden, practicing his Om. This is a small temple, but a large statue. Must have cost a fortune! Ah, the funeral business is a good one.

Cats Beware!
Cats Beware!

There exists an odd belief in Japan amongst older folks that cats are terrified of bottled water and therefore keeping bottles of water on one’s property will keep away strays. For this reason, it’s relatively common to see old bottles filled with water at some houses.

Indian food is everywhere in many Japanese cities. The menu often only consists of curry and odd flavors of naan that you wouldn’t find in India. But no complaints—it’s good (and cheap)!

Lock 'em Up

Street crime is very low in Japan, but one item that does disappear annoyingly often is umbrellas. So in many places you might find these, charging you ¥100 to safely store your umbrella.

What is “A” minus two? Obviously “green”. Fandangled new math.

That’s all, folks. Thank you for staying with me through today’s exploration. Any favorites? Let me know in the comments. And me sure to turn in next time when, if providence allows, I shall return for another Random Japan. See you then!

Footnotes

†: As I’ve covered before (and may again) Buddhism is mostly dead in Japan and only survives as a funeral racket. ↩

Also be sure to follow @kafkanarchy84, @maxinpower, @boxcarblue, and @wllmdnnd for even more random Japan fun! @jrvacation and @mweich have the occasional randomjapan post too. Then over in China we have @nobyeni with her occasional randomchina post.

Are you a Japan-based or Asia-based photographer who posts somewhat random photos from the country? If so, use the tag #randomasia, #randomjapan or randomCOUNTRYYOUAREIN on your posts.
