Mesmo que flutuem, as nuvens mais comuns ainda são cheias d'água. O tipo mais comum que você vê no céu, nuvens cúmulos, chegam a 500 toneladas cada! Se dessem um jeito de comprimir tudo num único balde, seria o equivalente a 100 elefantes.
Esse monte de água só não vem ao chão porque é muito separado. As gotículas são tão pequenas que precisaria juntar milhares só para formar uma gota de chuva. Já que cada partícula de água sozinha é tão pequena e leve, o ar a "carrega" para cima.
