Ditch Your Addictions #1

Every single human is addicted to something, no matter if is coke or cocaine, but the worst part is that they don’t even know it, they live their lives thinking they are in control but it doesn’t always work like that.

You see, addictions are never good because besides the simple fact that they steal your hard earned money they may destroy your body or even who you are as a person transforming you into a puppet that reacts to certain things.

Most people think that the addictions are only in our minds and that we can quickly get over them if we want but it’s not so easy because the main problem starts in our bodies.

Also, don't get me wrong, I'm not against the whole "sex, drungs and rockn'roll" thing, at all. And it's not necesarely destructive until you start spending too much money on that addiction and it gets in your way. I like having a few drink now and then but it doesn't stops me from succeeding in life.

Disclaimer: I have no idea what I’m talking about, do your research!

Get over it

Even if I’m not addicted to something freaking strong, I know it’s not easy to get over addictions.

The interesting thing about most addictions is that they operate on two fronts at the same time, both in your mind and your body. So, for example, if you smoke for a more extended period and get your body used to it, the nicotine you already have in your body will crave for more, making you want to smoke. An important thing you have to make is to get that substance, food, alcohol, nicotine, out of your body, clearing it so there’s nothing else that can influence you.

Also, you got your mind used with getting that substance in a specific situation, an environment so now every time you’re in that position your brain will crave for more of that substance, making you light a cigarette for example. If you used to smoke in a social environment only because you liked the fuss, then you can just be there for the social element and focus on conversations forgetting about the smoking part.

You have to go all-in

If you want to be free of your addiction, it has to be something absolute, or you better don’t even try.

I was talking with @buzlealex, and he wants to quit smoking because he realized that he’s only wasting money, not receiving anything back but cancer, so he decided to stop buying cigarettes, but if anyone gives him some for free he will accept them.

You see, the problem with his approach is that let’s say he quits smoking for one week, clearing some of his body from nicotine but he then smokes one cigar but that's enough for him to get back where he started because now he would have that substance again in his body and it will crave for more.

If he’s doing something like this, not just that he will never quit, but the withdrawal symptoms will be so hard that he will not be able to get over them and start buying cigars like crazy.

Conclusion

You won’t be able to get over your addictions if you keep on postponing, you have to stop feeding your body with shit now, and it has to be absolute. I know it’s going to be hard, I also urge you to give a read to this article from me: Don’t Make Exceptions.

There's a great analogy I heard a long time ago, imagine you have a Ferrari, you're not going to put shitty gasoline into it, now stop putting shitty food into your Ferrari body. You should analyze your life because you are addicted to something and try to quit that and gain back the control over your life.

Also, make sure to tune in tomorrow because I’m going to talk about my addiction and my little experiment with it.

WOW...I think most addictions started with filling a void or trying find a temporary solution to a unfavorable situation or condition.

To fix an addiction, the first step is to stay away from situation that will make you regress. Someone trying to quit smoking should not be near or have smokers friends, once he perceives the smell of a cigarette or whatever it is hard to resist especially at the initial stage of reformation. Masturbation addicts should run away from nudes and porns.

I can't remember where I read it. But it is working for some people I know. To get rid of a bad addiction, get yourself a new 'better addiction' in the form of hobby or something you love. Try doing sports, exercises, play games with people that are not into your addiction.

Getting engaged in something you love or you can easily run to whenever you are having the urge. Steemit is a good example of what you can use to break addiction because it is addictive. Though a good one.

Another life changing post...well done man!

Yup, that is very true sometimes. So many people are more addicted to the situation than the "drug" itself.

A great way to test yourself would be to refrain from smoking in a situation where everybody is smoking, but I suppose it's easier said than done.

That could work for some, but if they would just fill the gap you mentioned in the beginning, the addiction would be solved. Or maybe they fixed the gap but remained with the habit, anything is possible, humans are so different.

Steem is so freaking addictive; I couldn't leave it. :)

Thank you for your comment. :D

Easier said than done really...

The first step is for the addict to realize the situation and desperately want to get out...

hehe...I wouldn't want out of steemit addiction. who would?

I would give you 1,000 upvotes for this article if I could! Congrats for creating such a great piece!

"You won’t be able to get over your addictions if you keep on postponing, you have to stop feeding your body with shit now, and it has to be absolute." This is exactly my way of thinking about it. You can't half-ass it. You have to become the type of person who just doesn't smoke or do whatever your bad habit/addiction is.

Looking forward to read more articles like this @guyfawkes4-20

Exactly, that's the spirit man. I just saw you're from Cluj; I'm working on a project, Promo-Romania, I think we could work together. Feel free to send me a dm on Discord, GuyFawkes4-20#4502, that's where all the fuss is. :)

I can't dm you but I've sent you a friend request ;)

Also, make sure to tune in tomorrow because I’m going to about my addiction and my little experiment with it.

I feel that you have a typo in there somewhere.

I never really understood how hard it was to give up something until I've tried a few times to give up sodas. It's not a huge problem averaging probably one a day, but even then I haven't been able to cut them successfully.

I couldn't imagine trying to give up something that's more addicting than caffeine.

Lol, I was like, "a typo, where? I can't see it." but after reading that a few times, I realized that I was missing a word, haha. Thanks for letting me know. :)

I can't even remember when I gave up sodas; I just know that I can't stand them anymore. I was at an event Sunday, and for some reason, I drunk a few, I regret it even now, that's how shitty it was.

I somehow ditched caffeine too; I only drink like once a week now even if I like it. I used to drink every day, but then I suddenly stopped, dunno how it happened. :)

Disclaimer: I have no idea what I’m talking about, do your research.

I laughed so hard to this I almost shed tears. Your writing doesn't reflect it, though.

One thing I wonder about addiction is what if it's a good thing, can you get addicted to it? Say you like helping people and you do it every damn day, or say nicotine is good for the body and you can't stop smoking.

I think @buzlealex's technique isn't so bad. It might help him to a gradual withdrawal. I doubt he'll get offered as much cig as he bought himself. He could go from there.

Brilliant post brother.

Haha, I'm glad to hear that. I just don't want people to come here and consider that everything I say it's right because I might be wrong. :D

Of course, you can get addicted to anything; I think I'm addicted to social interactions. I can live without talking to anyone, I'm happy on my own, but I would prefer not to be in that situation.

Trust me, if @buzlealex knows one thing is how to get cigars for free, especially if he's drunk. :)))

Lmao. I'm laughing so hard right now. What a talent he has!

@lifenbeauty is laughing out loud at @guyfawkes4-20's disclaimer and @buzlealex's unique approach to quitting.

For me, cigarettes are the dumbest of all drugs - you waste health and money without getting the relaxation/entertainment benefits associated with alcohol and weed, for example.

I've actually written about Should we allow drugs and prostitution? two days ago, feel free to check it out if you find the topic interesting.

Cheers! : )

Haha, I love throwing out disclaimers like that. Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking about, no high, only wasted money.

Hell yeah we should, I say. I'll try to give it a read; I hope I won't forget. :)

great post, bro... love the way your writing - soo hillarious :)

keep on steeming - as always...

Haha, thank you, man. I always try to make a "serious" subject a bit lighter. :)

Thanks for sharing. I've been a pothead since my teen years. A couple 6 month breaks and once over a year. You're right about the mental front. If you get the physical substance clear out of your system, it makes it easier. I used to be addicted to cigarettes and even cocaine a long time ago... I'm thankful those two are behind me. The cigs are only maybe a year in the past so I must be wary of slips there. Thanks for bringing this up.

That is an impressive background; I'm glad you're way over all that, it's always good to move on. :)

I may not be physically addicted to weed, but I still have decided to only smoke on the weekends. I fine myself looking for reasons to light up. Not a good feeling.

As long as it doesn't get in your way and it doesn't steal too much money, it's not so bad. But if you don't feel good about it, maybe you should ditch it.

I think part of it is when I got nothing interesting going on, weed makes the boring interesting. Feeling that time with something more worthwhile might help we lean on weed a little less.

Only addiction we need is to improve ourselves daily! Keep strong values, morals and standards! :D

Huh, that is a strong, but healthy addiction, indeed. Too bad that only a few get to experience it.

Lol that is true!

Getting over addictions is never easy.

I have seen in my family the destruction cigars and al hola can have on a person.

Luckily I don’t have any addiction, well perhaps one but it’s totally unrelated that is I have always enjoyed to spend a lot of time watching movies and playing video games. Although the last month I have been very busy steemin more than anything else!

Looking forward to read about your addiction tomorrow bro!
