Who would have thought that in 1984 the simple action of a Sony Walkman cassette player falling into a toilet would lead David John Oate's onto the biggest discovery of his life, and not only his life, the whole world's?

Just how did this one moment start a chain of events to the discovery of a life time?

Simply put, the Walkman filled with water and David put it back together after drying it out and rewired it the wrong way so that it only played cassettes backwards. Little did he know at the time, this very defect would turn out to be the best mistake he made.

It was a few years later and David was working as a Youth Worker for teenagers in a Halfway house. One of the teens at the time mentioned to David about some key music tracks being played backwards and people being able to hear messages in the reverse sounds of the track like the Beatles, Queen etc.

This was called Backward masking where a message was DELIBERATELY and intentionally placed in the music track in the studio recording process. David was intrigued by this and for the next 3-4 months listened to hundreds of songs and reversed them....he soon realized there was a phenomenon BEYOND backward masking because for every song he listened to there was at least one reverse word or sentence found!! This went beyond intentional or deliberate backward masking, these were reverse words and sentences found naturally in songs.

The first time he found a reversal on normal speech he gave up listening to music in this way forever. The real discovery was realizing that reverse speech was a natural phenomenon in human speech and communication!!

He later called this phenomenon Reverse Speech...

So while we have conversations with our family, friends or strangers there is a hidden dialogue going on between us without our conscious awareness!!!

As I progress through my training as a Reverse Speech Analyst and after reading David's own book on the History of Reverse Speech these last 34 years, going through the 1000's of recorded transcripts and audio, it is apparent just how transparent Reverse Speech can make someone.

There is no where left to hide to be deceitful. It is proving to be the most excellent lie detector and has so many useful applications.
Imagine before joining anyone in business, listening to their reverse speech to determine if they have honest intentions or not. Listening to politicians to know who is just there as a puppet and who really wants change. Listening to suspects in unsolved cases to gain extra information and potential leads (called expansive reversals). Reverse speech therapy session work has proven to be the most rewarding for people!

The potential is endless.
