History and the stupidity of being Politically Correct

in #protest7 years ago

Did you know that many college campuses are deemed so heavily entrenched in the idea of political correctness that some Comedians, Musicians, and other acts will not visit them and/or censor themselves because the expect a hostile and unwelcoming audience?

This is occurring in our so-called centers of higher learning, yet the students cannot even be expected to be taught reason, critical thinking, and rational thought. Instead of teaching them such critical forms of education they instead mutate the entire campus like a monster to fit the political and emotional whims of the students. At some point the "We'll give the degree to anyone as long as they pay" mentality corrupted such educational institutions in other ways than simply producing a lot of paper tigers. It is no longer a place one must strive to be accepted to. If you pay, you can go. As such it has shifted from a place that once required the strictest of studies and is like a chef deciding to stop cooking culinary exquisite meals and instead going to work at McDonalds next to the robots.

The political correctness movement needs to stop. Social Justice Warriors (SJWs) why don't you first take several history classes including U.S. history, and then find a challenging teacher that teaches logic and critical thinking. If you still want to protest and be a SJW after that at least you hopefully won't be letting your emotions lead you around as though you were wearing a leash. I am not referring to SJW with a particular agenda. I am referring to all of them. We need to stop the masses that are running around fueled by emotion and imagined predicted ill events. Replace them with rational people who respond rationally (not emotionally) to actual events that happened rather than the imaginary ones that have not.

If you can avoid the colleges that promise you whatever you want as long as you pay their tuition. Unless you are a self learner odds are you won't benefit much. There are exceptions, but you need to intentionally seek them out. If you are a self learner then the odds are good that unless special equipment is required you can learn what you would from that education at whatever pace you like without ever stepping foot in one of their expensive courses. Again, there are exceptions. There are some things (mostly due to lack of equipment/opportunity) that you would find near impossible to learn outside of a higher education or vocational facility.

A glimpse at history

So what exactly inspired this post? Well a friend of mine on a SLACK I participate in posted this video.

I said yes this shows their are stupid people that support Trump. There are white supremacists that support him. There are black supremacists and stupid people that don't support him. We have no shortage of stupid people on either side of this particular topic.

I pointed out this video. That is the other side. You see if you want to find stupid people on any side of an issue these days you don't have to look far. It doesn't prove anything other than we have stupid people out there.

When I watched that video and how people were saluting in what we deem to be Hitler style it inspired by thought for this post.

I started realizing that the fact we do not salute our flag this way in the United States is purely an example of Political Correctness. Did you know for example that we saluted our flag exactly like the people saluted Hitler until the people of Germany did it to Hitler during World War II? It was deemed politically incorrect to salute like the people saluting Hitler. So it was changed to putting our hand over our heart.

What does that say about people? Political Correctness assumes that people who were sticking their hand out in front of them pointing towards a flag at and angle suddenly become Hitler followers because Hitler's followers did the same. It treats the population as though what angle and position you hold your hand is going to dictate what occurs in your mind.

In other words, Political Correctness assumes you are far too stupid to have your own rational thoughts. The Hitler salute might have been a mind virus that spreads to the United States.

I say this. Political Correctness as a whole is this stupid. It treats you like you are stupid. It is based around emotion and image, and has zero to do with rational and reasoned thought.

I can point my hand in all kinds of directions and I assure you it does not appear to be programming my mind.

So there is my late night rambling post...

Steem On!

BONUS: Our Pledge of allegiance was NOT written in the U.S. until 1892 which was 116 years after the birth of the nation. Think about that. It did NOT have the words "One Nation Under God" and it is a myth that such a pledge has always existed. In 1954 (yes that recent) the phrase "One Nation Under God" was added to the pledge to combat Communism. This was during the time of McCarthyism also known as the Red Scare. You should learn about that if you are unfamiliar with it as I believe you'll see some striking mental similarities with movements today.

Sort:

If my side did it, I can twist it to be PC. If your side did it. You are just a racist. Silence yourself sexist.

(The weapon on being called... a bad word) oh no.

Love the article.

I can point my hand in all kinds of directions and I assure you it does not appear to be programming my mind.

Are you sure? :)

P.S. I admit it is difficult to me.

P.S.2 Theoretical we could also all running naked on the streets...(?)

P.S.3 I hate political correctness too but not always, sometimes it is good, sometimes it is bad (lately it is most bad)

As to people running naked in the streets. I've been conditioned to believe this is bad, but in reality what clothes someone wears or does not wear has no impact on me other than perhaps a sexual attraction or revulsion type scenario. Yet that is more conditioning. The more we hide things when they are revealed they evoke a sexual reaction. Think back to long dress days and how a woman showing her ankle was considered sexually attractive. Then flip to places where native women are always topless. They do not have sexual reactions simply due to seeing a woman's breast because they are used to it. I imagine the places where native men walk around with their penis in like a wooden sheathe do not cause sexual reaction simply due to their penis mostly being revealed.

So people running naked in the streets. We could become used to that. Take people from 60 years ago and send them to any of our beaches today and they will believe we are basically already doing that. ;)

Good hand gesture... actually I thought about it while I was walking around last night getting something to eat. I was imagining reaching for something and getting my hand at the wrong angle and self-censoring and saying "Oh shit I'm a Nazi!" then I thought about Sign Language and how "I Love You" sign in sign language sometimes get's called satanic when they see it being done at a concert and don't know what it actually means. Yes, your example sends a very clear message. :)

Political Correctness assumes you are far too stupid to have your own rational thoughts

...and if you are capable of having your own thoughts, you are dangerous, because who knows what you will think next. If you have your own thoughts it means you can break out of collective mindframe, and this is something no true PC (or rather cultural marxist) can stand. It signifies deep distrust in human spirit (and/or goodness).

If it's not STEAM (science, technology, engineering, Art, mechanics) it's a hobby.

It's the 'Roman salute' Just a natural gesture of support. authority, 'hey look over there' etc.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_salute

"Then the Romans must have been Nazis!!!!" - me saying something intentionally stupid.

Thank you for sharing that. I hadn't really researched that far back to the actual origins. I thought it was stupid we changed it in the U.S. simply due to Hitler.

It's a cool topic to see how the Nazis designed an 'aesthetic state' based on early civilization; revival of art, culture, symbolism, which is very powerful to unite people and build an ethos. I think there's far too much prejudice around 'everything that might have touched a Nazi' because of the atrocities. It's anti-intellectual thinking and should be called out on the regular (as you've done here)

That's basically it. I think I may be at war with irrational movements. I've seen some pretty interesting things that show (holocaust aside) Hitler potentially was a bit different than we were taught. The holocaust was atrocious, yet even then he doesn't have the high score for something like that. Stalin and Mao stopped his innocent deaths and executions score into the ground.

hahah... gotta have a time machine. Someone must have one because all these protestors sure do like protesting things that haven't happened yet.

Some campuses are also preventing some people to come and speak because they are spreading hate and have a racist speach. In this case, it definitely goes beyond the matter of being politically correct.

I see some people called racist when they are not these days too though. Yes, there are racist people. Often the people complaining about the racist speech (not you) are racist as well. The thing is it has become popular to call someone racist just because they disagree with someone of another race. Even if they are disagreeing based upon facts and issues that have nothing to do with racism, they'll be labeled racist. The "you didn't agree with me, so you are racist" is not racism. It is a person trying to use racism as a label to shut down any criticism. I am not saying this is the case with those you are referring to, but I have actually seen a lot of that. It doesn't matter that I voted for Obama in 2008 (though not in 2012). If I disagree with him I am suddenly racist, though my disagreements with Obama have nothing to do with race. I only recognize one race. The human race. The rest is just stupid labels as far as I'm concerned. :)

I tend to agree with your message. Let's say that the problem is not being politically correct but abusing of the political correctness.

That is agreeable. Though in reality I often wonder why we have a "politically" correct in the first place. Truth is truth. Politics just changes the perception of it, exaggerates, and/or censors the truth.

I understand our psychology and human nature is rather complex and this is why it exists, but ultimately it is kind of silly that a pseudo-truth is treated this important. :)
