Legal or Illegal? The World's Oldest Profession

There are numerous names used to describe them. Gender does not matter for one to pimp their bodies for financial gains, goods or some other benefits. The profession involves both men and female.

Yes,... there are countries that... happens to have....legalized prostitution. Others though, have illegalized the practice.

Is engagement in this old profession less in countries that term it an illegality? No! There is prostitution all over the world!

The names they call them sound dirty, or is it only to me?

The names are quite many that I only cite few here. These names refer to female prostitutes only. The Janes or sugar mamas normally are the female clients of sexual services.

Jane, not her real name, has rented a small bedsitter at Wagwan slam area. She spents most of her day sleeping in her room after taking breakfast. At around 4:00 pm, she wakes up, prepares her meals and at around 6:00 pm grooms herself ready for a long night vigil.

Jane braces the cold as she lays her trap to catch up a client outside New Rendzvous Night Club. She and others of her trade whiles away the night puffing at their cigarettes. All are scantly dressed.

Soon a man approaches her. They negotiate the price and on agreement, book in a room nearby. It is Jane who gets the money from her client to pay for the room.

They do a quickie, the man pays and leaves her in the room. She quickly cleans up and goes on the street for another client.

Once she gets the client and have agreed on a price, she takes money to pay for a room but goes to the one previously booked. The same activities as before are repeated. This goes on till morning. The tired girl makes her shopping and heads to her bedsitter.

At times, she finds a rich client and as soon as he goes to the bathroom or falls asleep, she steals all the money and makes a clean pair of heels.

The above story is the operation of one type of prostitute. Not all operate in similar ways. They vary in operations, price and nature of prostitution.

Marrianne (a fictitious name), comes from a very poor family. At the age of 12, a relative took her with a promise of taking her to school. Prostitution ranges to ancient times in history. The bible has the story of Rahab, She was a prostitute found in the Book of Joshua. She assisted the Israelites by hiding then and offering them with information the current socio-cultural and miltary situation.

Judah and Tamar in Genesis 38:14-26 gives an outline how prostitution was done during those times.

This owner could be a citizen, for this activity was considered as a source of income just like any other: one 4th century BC orator cites two; Theophrastus in Characters (6:5) lists pimp next to cook, innkeeper, and tax collector as an ordinary profession, though disreputable.[4] The owner could also be a male or female metic.

Despite all odds, prostitution has thrived on. Maybe it is due to the fact that it has a religious foundation. Female and male prostitutes used to serve in temples. The bible also talks about pristitution and since people have much faith in the bible, believe it is not a bad practice.

Islamic prostitutions do exist too. There is another aspect of lust and unsatisfaction of many people.

Can we say the devil uses prostitution as a weapon against the elect? The story of The Whore of Babylon found in Revelation might be a pointer.
