Proofreading HackssteemCreated with Sketch.

While writing articles we often leave some typos or structure errors without even knowing about them. These little mistakes can be a reason of embarrassment for us in the future. We cannot correct these mistakes instantly during the writing process. Our mind simply cannot see our own mistakes at that time and even if we pay attention we cannot find all our mistakes. However readers can see those mistakes while reading. They may not complain about it but they will surely don’t like it. When they spot a typo they instantly judge the writer to be lazy, unprofessional etc. So it is better to ensure that there are no typos before posting the article.

Proofreading is also a time consuming and tough job. We need to maintain focus and re-read many times. There are several different ways of proofreading on the internet. But I use 2 simple steps of my own to eliminate any errors.

1. Use a Good text editor

Typos are simply spelling mistakes in the text. We can remove these by using a good text editor with dictionary. I use Microsoft word for writing posts because of its autocorrect features. It indicates simple spelling mistakes and gives the correct spellings. It’s good for solving macro level typos. But it ignores some verb mistakes and structure errors. That is why I use a second filter.

2. Listen to text (As a third person)

As we know text editors cannot see grammar mistakes and wrong words. Therefore we cannot say that the article is 100% typo free. You guys can do two things in this case, read the article till you’re satisfied with it or use my method. Reading is an exhausting method so I use text to speech converter and listen to it. It requires much less effort, focus and time than reading again and again. Once I’ve completed an article I convert it to audio and listen to it as a third person.

The text converter I prefer is Naturalreader

Natural Reader is a professional text to speech program that converts any written text into spoken words. In other words, it allows you to listen to text instead of reading it on the screen!

Natural Reader works with pdf files, Office Word documents, webpages, and eBook ePub files. You just open the documents and listen to them in Natural Reader and can even synchronize with your mobile devices.

Why we don’t notice our mistakes at the time we’re writing? Maybe it’s due to the fact that we don’t literally read the complete text again. We have a sketch of what we’ve written in mind, so we just go through the text without reading it thoroughly . I use my self-made hacks to deal with this error

Not all time. But most of the time I draft my articles in MS word and the recheck with grammerly.com

Grammerly is best but it's not free.
