TRACK YOUR WHALE! - When to post to get curied?? Time analysis of posts upvoted by @hendrikdegrote

in #programming7 years ago (edited)

It's no a secret that behind @curie and @hendrikdegrote are actually several curators who scan Steemit and look for undervalued high-quality content. They are real people living in various timezones and working during various time. That led me to realization that there must be a time when majority of them sleeps and also when majority of them works. So which hour have you had the highest chance of being selected for @curie upvote during the last 14 days?

Steem python script

What I've done here is really no magic. It's 37 lines of code and a tiny config file to specify 3 parameters - days, username and upvote %. This time, I've set them followingly:

Results

Aand after cca 20 seconds of reading and parsing our beloved STEEM blockchain, here are the results :)

Selection_025.png

We can clearly see that the lucky hour to post and hope for @curie curation is 17:00 and 18:00. During these 2 hours were posted 33 later curated posts (in the last 14 days). Another big chances of getting their nice upvote (if your content is worth it) were if you posted around 22:00 or 00:00.

All times in the post are in Central European Time (CET) also known as "+0100" zone.

To avoid confusion - I'm talking about when the curated posts were pubished, not the time when they got the upvote :)

Interested in another user?

Are you hoping the get an upvote from some of your favorite whales or are you just interested in some other user? I'll run the script with the above parameters set according to your choice FOR FREEE!! Just DM me on Discord (MatkoDurko#3758) and I'll send it to you right when I get to my computer ;)

Track down your whale and get that UPVOTE from her/him ;) !

Matko.

@matkodurko wow thanks alot!! 😄

Fun to go whale-watching 🐳

Haha yupp :D Now I know when to post my killer posts :)

Coinscidence or not, I've had a conversation with someone not too long ago, and we agreed that our posts seemed to do best when posted between 4.30pm and 6 pm.
Of course we didn't have a script to back it up, lol.
How I wish I would be able to write scripts like that. It must be so much fun. I tried to learn a couple of years ago, but couldn't wrap my brain around it...

Id love to think it's not a coincidence and my script really works haha :D

Hmm well coding is just about practice practice practice...Im defo not a tech talent...I learn slower than other guys in the uni or at work...it's really just about time in front of the screen :D Btw I've ordered a whiteboard and plan on starting DTube based IT lessons hahaha :D in "Explain like Im five" manner....cuz whole blockchain world keeps mentioning devs devs devs..soo I thought it might be cool to explain how IT things work in suuupereasy manner :) I also want to once have my own kids afternoon IT school haha soo I guess I gotta start practicing :D

I love the 'explain like I'm 5' way. Those are the exact words I use when I ask someone to explain something technical to me, lol. If you do it, please le me know. I'll be in the front row, asking all the 5-year old questions :0)

oh I still have to go through the data you sent me and make sense of it! Will do soon, I promise!

This is different thing but yeah haha I was thinking about it just ysterday...what happened and if you maybe didn't like it :D

nooo I did like it of course! I just need to sit down and focus on it =)

Yes I believe it does make a difference with the time. You may have a super duper quality content but could easily be missed by the curators if a lot of them are off line.

Exactly! :) Thats why I posted this and was interested to find out

For you it's just 37 lines of code, for me it's a mistery :D haha

Hah we all have something we specialize in :D

It really doesn't matter when you post :D As curators submit post in a platform named Becquerel and reviewers upvote after reviewing. Sometimes a post can be submitted even 4 or 5 or even 12 hours or even one minute before reviewed. There is no pattern in when the post is submitted in another word curator find, but there can be when it is reviewed (upvoted or rejected) :D

Haha it really does matter I think :D Your high quality post needs to get noticed first. I'm quite confident that the above graph shows there definitely is a difference and the time matters :) I'm not talking when the post is approved to get the curation or when is it submitted to Becquerel, I'm talking when to post to get noticed. If you post and most curators are sleeping, your chance of being submitted to Becquerel is smaller, isn't it?

Yeah, but it can be on the other way around. Which country most of the users from and when usually people write at night. I am not sure that there are a lot of authors who write a day. I usually see most of the good and quality content is written around 18:00 or after until 6:00 in the morning ( i live in GMT+2). But its my personal calculation. Trust me there is not a time when curators doesn't work. Someone is always there for quality content to curate :D

I guess we could discuss forever why is it and why is it not. I personally believe most Steemit users are from Europe - I've seen it in several polls and also steemitworldmap posts ratio. That probably makes also the curators team unballanced and most of them are here at these "post work" evening hours. And that's when they discover the content. It's just my personal guess also. But the numbers clearly show that only 3 posts posted at 5am CET (GMT+1) got upvoted in last 2 weeks..Compared to 17 posts at 6pm. There has to be some reason I guess.

Yeah seems so :)

On the other side..also number of posts is probably higher at those hours..soo the resluts might be biased :)

Yeah but as far as I can say every post maintains a certain quality and guideline of curie never skips curators eyes :D

Good thing to know! I was wondering about this myself, so I'm happy that someone else did the hard work to figure it out!

Actually, you'd want to post 2-3 hours before these time as there is usually a delay. Curie doesn't vote for content within the first 30 minutes. It's been a while since I read the white paper, but I believe they say in the white paper how long they wait before voting. It's a substantial period of time to consider.

Haha the biggest font in the post addresses this topic :D I'm talking about the post time not the upvote time. So the highest score around 18:00 doesn't mean the got upvote at 18:00 but that they were posted at that time. The time of upvote isn't of my interest, I just want to know when the curied posts were publoished:)

Gotcha. I have a rare talent for missing the obvious. I've actually won a couple of awards for that. :-)

Good post.

Hi, @matkodurko!

You just got a 0.53% upvote from SteemPlus!
To get higher upvotes, earn more SteemPlus Points (SPP). On your Steemit wallet, check your SPP balance and click on "How to earn SPP?" to find out all the ways to earn.
If you're not using SteemPlus yet, please check our last posts in here to see the many ways in which SteemPlus can improve your Steem experience on Steemit and Busy.

But does that means posts going to get voted🤔
They always look out for quality stuff...

I've said that in the post twice ;) Content obviously have to have a good quality. Im just analyzing the time when the chances are higher and more curators are "at work".
