patience, my love - a poem

it's so much quicker
to start over again
than continue running down
the wrong path.

Happy Sunday!

I wrote this poem within the last few months probably, while I've been rehabilitating. One of the things I've hard to learn with an acquired brain injury (specifically an impaired limbic system) is that I need to be okay starting over as many times as it takes. Because it takes a minimum of 6 months of every day practice and dedication to heal, many things I would love to do have been put on hold.

But nothing is more important than your health and I will be able to do those things 100x better after my brain is healed. So sometimes when I feel like I am missing out or letting an opportunity pass me by, I repeat this poem to myself. Because I won't trade the possibility healthy brain and body for the fleeting impulses I have every day. Some of those feelings, desires, and thoughts might be symptoms of the injury itself. I won't know until after the 6 months is done.

Beyond my personal health journey, I think many of us can feel frustrated when we realize we've strayed from a path. It can be so difficult to start over, feeling like we've lost all the work we've done so far. We might be tempted to push forward. Sometimes we do just need a little extra to cross the finish line. But sometimes we also need the courage to pause and really ask ourselves "am I walking down the right path?"

If the answer is "no", then we need to be patient and go back to where we strayed and try again. Because no matter how fast we run if we're running in the wrong direction we won't arrive where we want to.

It is really important to always ask yourself if what you are doing is worth to keep going or just start over with a new fresh view.

Very true! We will gain so much from being humble in this regard.

Absolutely, yes. You are absolutely right, Ciel :)

It is important, firstly, that you look after your well being and I am glad to hear that you are putting the focus on your health, instead on impulses :) And secondly, yes yes yes yes, yes! It is good to check and ask ourselves the courageous question if we are traveling down a path that we indeed would like to. And the right thing to do is never to just keep going since things are already in motion, but to have the determination and space to give ourselves a chance to re-start, where they are required :)

Gorgeous poem, as always, Ciel <3 You are always so thoughtful and so uplifting <3

Thank you!

I think humility in terms of being okay will starting something over or changing direction is really important to our happiness. We learn so much along the way so sometimes shifts are needed. We're not the same people we started out as!

Thank you so much. xoxo

I'm convinced that people who suffer greatly end up learning so much more because of it and turn out better people than they would have been had they not suffered. The world drives people to rush around doing 'stuff'. They are so busy trying to get ahead that they don't have time for self-reflection and self-analysis. Having to cope with suffering forces us to slow down and focus on ourselves and our health. Without health, there isn't much else that is truly worthy, so health should be the first priority. We are not invincible and we shouldn't be pushing our health to the back burner because of something that is actually less important.

It's true. We can't be too stubborn to be humble in this regard. And what are we creating if we're not taking care of our health? My judgement and sense of what I should be doing won't be centered and it won't be a noble pursuit. Slowing down will help us progress which so much more meaning and substance.
