GRENDEL'S AUNT (an original poem) - Part 14

in #poetry8 years ago

“Unless you pay Dwenndis, you'll suffer her wrath,
the inherited anger of Cain.
That family will follow you and disembowel you.
Grudge from that clan will besmudge and befoul you.
Debt is a sin that they will not forgive
and its wages are worse than mere death.”

Hymm was surprised that this knight knew his damnable
dealings with Dwenndis and Grendel.
Explaining the terms of the contract were broken,
his firm stipulations on paper and spoken,
he told him, “I am, feeling duped by that ogre,
refusing to pay him a moger
.”

Dwenndis stomped off at this moneyless news
almost losing her veil of disguise.
She returned to the den of her nephew, the pig,
to relay that the knight would his payment reneg.
But young Grendel was out, slurping slimy young sculpin
So Dwenndis, instead, told her sister.

The mother of Grendel, astonished to hear
that her son had been earning a wage,
was dismayed then to learn that his work was now spurned
and the man who was spurning was pocketing earnings,
and spent to the point that near nothing was left.
Only umbrage was there for the taking.
