GRENDEL'S AUNT (an original poem) - Part 13

in #poetry8 years ago

So Dwenndis was forced to collect for her nephew,
if only to snag her own cut.
She found Hymm consuming at Heorot Hall
several tankards of mead with Sir Wiglaf the Tall.
Hymm had joined with the legion of Hrothgar the king.
Here he finally felt needed and loved.

Dwenndis morphed male and acquired an ale
that she sipped, dressed in whiskers and mail.
She asked of their exploits, the knights at the table,
to find out who failed and whoe'er had been able
to earn a good living from fighting the foe.
Then she turned her attention to Hymm.

“Weren't you the knight who defeated the beast
that attacked all the weaklings of Mundt?”
He assured her he was and had earned many coins
for subduing the limbs and subduing the loins
of that snarling colossus. "In death he rejoins
his ancestral molestral kin, Cain.
"

Dwenn disagreed, saying, "Grendel, he lives.
Can I speak with you privately, sir?"
She thrust him a'corner and whispered a roar
as she threatened exposure, Hymm's secrets galore
to these men, Hrothgar's friends and his servants who swore
to be honest and forthright and noble.
