BLACKOUT POETRY / Darkness
WHAT IS A BLACKOUT POEM?
A blackout poem is when a poet marks out already established text– like in a newspaper– and starts redacting words until a poem is formed. One interesting feature of a blackout poem is that the text AND redacted text create not only a poem, but also a work of visual art.

Here is another of my experiments with blackout poetry. It is titled, DARKNESS. Below the poem is the text it was created from.

I tried this over the weekend, and I must say that it's harder than it seems. Kudos for making pieces that are coherent. I'm having trouble finding a mass of text that I'm comfortable making poetry with. This line connecting words thing in this piece is a great idea if you can't find something sequential.
I find them relaxing, like working on a puzzle. Not every page works out, I find dictionary pages give the most diversity and possibilities for creativity.
I would imagine dictionaries would have that wiggle room. If all else fails, I'll try that. But, for my first one, I'm thinking I deserve more of a challenge.
Pages from novels work well, but sometimes it is hard to break away from the Theme the author was working with.
