[Podcast bits #9] Tyson Fury talks about his unbelievable comeback on Joe Rogan Experience
Podcasts - a double edged sword. Several years ago, when I've discovered them, I was blown away. New information daily, during shopping or commuting. Isn't that awesome? I don't have to read all those loong articles anymore and can spare some time like this. Well, over years, so many cool podcast emerged, my lack of time problem is back. It's hard to listen to them all...If you have the same problem, I'm here for you :)
In these series of posts, I'll be summing up the latest interesting podcasts I've listened to, so you can save up some time for another ones.
Joe Rogan Experience - Tyson Fury
It was already the MMA Episode #47. Crazy how fast Joe spits these out. They just started and it's alread #47! He for sure is a workhorse, juggling all those things he does at the same time. Plus now he's even doing that crazy october sport challenge!
Anyway, the Gipsy King himself stopped by and talked with Joe in surprisingly short episode (just something over an hour). Here are the points I've found interesting:
- After beating Klitschko and becoming the HW champion, he fell into a deep deep depression (we know that) and gained weight up to 410 pounds!!
- He wanted to commit suicide and decided not to on the way to the bridge where he wanted to do it. He thought about his kids who would be said their whole life that their father gave up and was a loser.
- He decided to come back after a prayer. Also, his wife didn't believe him as he was talking about coming back all the time while being drunk
- Has 3 grappling classes a week
- He tremendously respects Deontay Wilder who's he's going to fight next as Deontay isn't ducking anyone as e.g. Anthony Joshua
- He'd rather go to the fight undertrained than overtrained. At the same time, he's schedule is pretty full - 5 times a week lifting, 3 times a week running and 6 times a week box-specific training.
- Wilder's team offered a big 2 fight contract to AJ's team, but they declined
- He lost all his weight being in ketosis. I was absolutely stunned when he said his nutritionist told him he shouldn't stay in the ketosis longer than 14 days (what is complete BS!). Also, he didn't really show any knowledge about that diet at all. It was kinda shock to me.
- As he went for the run 1st time, he set the goal of 10 miles as he used to (:D) but had to stop running after 5 minutes.

- Chcel spachat samovrazdu a rozmyslel si to az v aute ked soferoval ku vybranemu mostu.
- Wilderov tim ponukal Joshuovi deal na 2 zapasy, no AJ odmietol
- cita to vobec niekto?
- Zhodil cca 70 kil v ketoze!
- Ked isiel znova prvykrat behat, chcel si dat 10 mil no musel prestat po 5 minutach bo nevladal.

Was a good podcast, they’re both very entertaining. The thing that really disappointed me about the podcast was there was no mention of how traumatic brain injury plays a role in depression for fighters & people who’ve had head trauma.
Rogan is usually pretty good about talking about the consequences of head trauma. One of the main reasons I sill listen to him is he is one of the very few talking heads who regularly correlates behavioral problems & head trauma, but he was very careful to not say anything about it & Fury who sells himself on being honest didn’t mention it once.
I get that with a big fight coming up, with one of the hardest hitters in the world, you wouldnt want to talk about head trauma. But all of the young aspiring fighters out there & fans need to understand Fury’s depression was definitely affected, & most likely directly caused by head trauma from boxing.
If he doesn’t understand that yet, he’s stuck in is his own denial or to brain damaged to ever understand. It is a sad thing to watch, but I’ll probably still watch the Wilder fight
Maaan what a great point...I didnt realize it at all, that they completely skipped the brain damage part. On the other side, I'm not sure if it happened cuz of that. Top level athletes in all sports often fall into depression once their active career is over. Not just boxing or NFL where the head trauma is a thing. But you're totally right, it shiuld have been addresses! Super happy u pointed it out!
Komentoval nějak ten trénink? Ono je to taky o čase. Jinak se regeneruje silovej trénink o 30 minutách a jinak o dvou hodinách. A taky se někdy stává, že někdo si vlastně pod silovým tréninkem představuje vlastně něco úplně jinýho (vytrvalostní síla, explosivní síla, maximální síla?) :D
On je fakt brutální rozdíl když jedeš atg back squat s 90% tvýho maxima a nebo leg press na stroji viď.
