Market Infatuation

in #photography6 years ago

As an amateur photographer I love spending time around market places. Here life begins early in the morning and throughout the day the cycle of trade goes on. Let me share with you today a market that we visited from our previous vacation. Tourists are attracted to this market due to the fresh fruits and the unique local produce. The place Baguio City Public Market in the Philippines.

The market is lined up with stalls selling fresh strawberries. This is one of the major produce from Baguio and I would say is most popular. In our country whenever someone mentions the place Baguio, immediately you would think about strawberries and the cool weather. The strawberries are grown by local farmers and you could read more about the farm from my old post.

Strawberry Daydream

Here you could purchase four packs for 100 pesos or $2.00 which I think is around almost half a kilo.

The market is like strawberry heaven with unlimited supply of sweet tarty goodness. The supply of strawberries led to production of jams and wine which are also very popular products from this district.

A wonderland for photography with subjects ranging from colors, people, the stalls with different products. They all play harmoniously in this orchestra but can stand on its own when it comes to content. If you get lost around the place you might even discover something fascinating. Anyway you could always find your way back. You might get carried away shooting all day but be mindful to always stay aware of your surroundings. In almost all places not everyone is friendly and some might see you as an easy target. With your expensive gear and busy taking shots. If you are not aware you might just find yourself losing your wallet. Just a friendly reminder not only here but in all busy crowded places where ever you go.

Every time you go out on vacations we always want to bring something back home. In our culture we often buy something to give away to family and friends. We call this Pasalubong.

9.JPG

There is no shortage of Pasalubong in this market. All sorts of sweets, treats and goodies to bring a smile to anyone. Here are just some of the popular products.

Peanut Brittle - Hardened sugar added with crushed or whole peanuts
Crinkles - Like a soft cookie treat with different flavors and sprinkled with powdered sugar
Lengua de Gato - A creamy thin cookie like treat made with sugar, eggs and flour
Ube Jam - Jam made from purple yam
Strawberry Jam
Honey
Choco Flakes - crunchy treat made from corn flakes and mixed with chocolate

Whether you are out for shopping, looking for something specific like coffee, just looking around or photography. There is something for everyone to spark that interest for this place. As for me and my family a little shopping and a lot of shooting.

Looking for something native? They have it here which are hand woven bags, hats, baskets and even lamps.

One of the products which I love the most is mountain grown rice. Only here have I seen different rice varieties.

Colors ranging from black, red, brown, purple and mixed colors.

The purple rice is something we have not tried yet and is known to be the main ingredient of the authentic Puto Bumbong which is a Philippine delicacy.

You could read more about it here.

The prices ranges from 40 -80 pesos or $.75 to $1.50 per kilo.

Passing by in one of the areas in the market. A familiar aroma fills the air which everyone would love. A morning fuel for most of us and awakens us when we need that jolt of caffeine. Here mountain grown coffee are roasted and freshly ground to your desire.

You have the option to mix two varieties together and have it medium or fine ground. My personal preference the strong Barako coffee mixed with Arabica. Strong bold with that mountain scent and flavor is something you would fall in love with again and again.

These are just some of the daily scenes from one of the fascinating markets in our country. Looking at these photos increases my market infatuation which makes me want to explore more of our country. Who knows maybe if the stars align and destiny points us to the right direction, I hope to see not only local markets but also from different parts of the globe.

Thanks for joining me today and I hope you enjoyed the time spent with me.

Have a good cup of coffee and have an amazing evening or morning Steemians.

Thank you very much. Do visit our country sometime there is so much to love and enjoy.

I love going to local markets when I travel. The strawberries look delicious and I bet those coffee beans smell great! I have always loved the smell of coffee beans. Thanks for sharing

The scent of the area is addictive because of the roasted and freshly ground beans. Buy a kilo and you are all set. It is best served black a fresh brew somehow has a bit sweet taste to it.

Never been to Baguio. It's on my bucket list, though.

Love strawberries!

You are very welcome. Indeed those baskets are amazing and I wish I could find out who makes them. Let me know if you went out to get some strawberries to satisfy your craving lol.

Oh I still plan on it! We’ll be going grocery shopping soon and they are on my list!!! 😃😋

Wow what an amazing market! I dont think i've seen so many strawberries. Let alone so cheap.

Theres something magic about the hussle and bussle of a market you captured it really well.

Hey thanks for checking you should see the farm. It was indeed pleasant cool weather busy yet not too crowded. A great market to visit.

Fantastic photos!!

That's crazily a lot of strawberries going on in the market. One thing I really do love about asian market is the hustle and bustle action. It's extremely interesting to see different culture interact differently. Good write up!

Thank you very much. I agree with the hustle and bustle stall by stall different offers. Not to mention the price haggling lol. Hope one day will get a chance to experience other markets from different cultures.
